I was in a Baptist church, then a none denominational Church which shared the majority of the teachings with the Baptist’s. It was so empty and hollow. I went their hungering for Gods word and came away feeling dejected and still hungry. Father Spyridon has been a huge influence in my walk with God in helping guide me to the truth of Orthodoxy. Personally I haven’t joined the Orthodox Church, but I consider myself orthodox in the sense that I believe what they believe and God has used this church and the teachings of the Saints in particular immensely in my seeking Him.

The Church is real and alive. The lives of the saints and church Fathers and Mother's have this depth. I have a wonderful priest but in my experience most priests are not aware like Fr. Spyrodon. The beauty of the liturgy and having the sacraments make it the best Church I've ever been to. I was a pagan then Jesus Christ saved me. I still remember the "talks" we'd listen to from the "Elders" growing up as a Jehovah Witness. Hearing Fr Spyridon give his homily's addressing the spirit behind the laws with constant deferral to Christ and The Saints makes me realize how utterly devoid of The Holy Spirit sectarian spirituality is. Akin to a business meeting with a power point presentation vs guidance from a true Elder on transformation of the soul. I know Fr Spyridon receives praise with reluctance but imo he's doing a much needed work for the faithful with this channel. Parish Priest, especially in Blue states, are often held captive by the secular opinions of their flock and sometimes worse their own worldly disposition. As such it can be rare to hear Priest speak freely about what The Church and it's Saints teach for some of us. Many thanks Fr Spyridon and may God keep you.

Hello, I also grew up a Jehovahs Witness, my family left 10 years ago. Praise God we both have found the Orthodox Church. I agree with what you said above. Thankfully I go to a pretty strong parish with a wonderful priest who isn’t afraid to hurt some feelings. Too often ex JWs reject “the society” for all the wrong reasons and rebel against God becoming secular humanist and or religious relativist. The exclusive claim of being “The Truth” becomes a red flag. This mindset leads most ex JWs to the freedom the world offers which is slavery to sin or the freedom Protestantism offers which often amounts to pride and self will being referred to as a “personal relationship” with Jesus Christ. Few continue the search for the truth and manage to find what the society falsely claims to be, the true Body of Christ. May God keep us both sister and may The Holy Spirit guide more Witnesses to The Orthodox Church.

I think that criticism of JW can apply to Protestantism in general and its focus on systematic theology and apologetics. I'm getting actual practical advice for living out the faith from Orthodox Christian sources, in the spirit of the epistles. When I apply these methods, even though I felt hopeless at the start, it results in real spiritual changes, small but measurable, such that when extrapolated, one can see how apotheosis is a compelling concept. As such I've begun to expand my sources of truth beyond just the Holy Scriptures, to consider the insights of saints of the past who lived holy.

You won't find pews in most Orthodox churches, but the Liturgy and the churches reflect scripture like nothing else, indeed when we 'stand before the Lord' it is scriptural!

This is very true, for the last 3 years I’ve spent so much time seeking God in prayer, last Christmas I moved house, God allowed me to gain things of the world to test my soul and heart to see which way I would turn. Over the last 6 months I’ve spent a lot of time improving my house and taking pleasure in it, and at the same time trying to seek God, but it’s destroyed me, and undone so much of the progress I made in drawing near to God. I’m still struggling now with this love of the things of this world, but God is slowly bringing me out of it, I just need to be aware that when I draw near to Him and taste His joy and peace I don’t run straight back to the things of the world and using that joy to try and save my life in this world, by taking pleasure in those things.

Seek him, seek him in his word, seek him in prayer. You reap what you sow. If you continue to sow to the flesh you will continue to reap corruption, but if you sow to the spirit you will reap eternal life. It’s a difficult thing to do to get up from sin, but as soon as God sees our desire and our determination to do so he rushes to help us just like in the parable of the prodigal son. As a southern Californian American, I am surrounded by mandatory materialism. For being poor (both sides of my family are as poor as it gets for working class) I have literally almost been killed and have been harassed until becoming naturally antisocial. I am now middle age trying to work as much as possible and I have no family and friends and I have been a transient since about 1989. I thank God for health but I begged God for a good wife and home and an occupation congruent with the only thing I know which albiet sounds very immature is martial arts and I can probably still prove it. I thank God that currently I have a good security job but everything else (my prayers) seems to be rubbish to God and it brings my soul down morbidly. I know really evil people who have more than half the things I have begged God for. I fear one day gnashing my teeth and cursing God going to hell. Every time people talk about trusting God or God loves us I cringe. God is all I have to talk to and something about me is unacceptable to Him. I like Orthodoxy because it doesn't claim to be saved or have a direct relationship with God like protestantism does. Protestantism made me spit at and curse God over stupid jargon like that. Yes! Covetousness in a poor man leads to insanity. I pray to die by the sword and be like I was never born. Even if God granted my wish, I would feel like it's a trick. If any monasteries need security against saracen or terrorism, I am very interested and very armed. None the less, the Lord and I have the same enemies! I Hate this world and the day I was born but because or if God will torment the principalities that robbed me of my dream, then I say, Glory to the Father and Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever unto the eons upon eons, amen ⚡️🛐

That's awesome! -> but/also/albiet: I hear the 4th crusade was messed up, and it's very admirable that EO would draw swords over tradition (first creed), but I believe it can be argued that due to Aryanism, the RC had to institute the filioque clause and to me, it seems Jesus is rhetorically hinting He's the father, He breathes the holy spirit on the disciples, the book of Revelation has the river of life proceeding from both the father and son, and RC likes Orthodox things whereas EO doesn't reciprocate. It seems to me that EO just wanted to do their own thing and told You guys antagonistic stuff. I hear EO has a problem of establishing autocephally and bishobric amongst the national churches. RC has different problems too in making sure the pope is orthodox with a lower case letter O, or that he doesn't fall into heterodoxy... - Damn satan always causes divorce and schism. Also, what a LOT of people don't realize is that poverty is relative to spending more than you are taking in, to a large degree. Why so many people say that Jesus is God, that the trinity is God separated in 3 , the Father, the Holy Spirit and the Son (Jesus)? I’ve yet to see a priest explaining this clearly.
