A look inside eco commune Grow Heathrow in west London.
The group built their own eco village on land which has been earmarked for an extension of London Heathrow Airport.

I feel like the UK needs more places like this, I’d hate for millennials to be as lonely as many boomers are in old age :/

I’d hate for a population that labels people as boomers. Shows a lack of intelligence.

the use of the term 'squatters' helps separate them from 'us' these 'squatters' live in a drug and alcohol free environment, cook for eachother, grow their own food and self sustain with their own solar panels and wind turbines

sorry to burst your bubble but solar panels don't work. nuclear energy is the way of the future. just because the solar panels are good in use it does not mean they aren't produced in poor conditions nuclear energy has only ever failed due to incompetence (fukushima-diiachi and vladmir-lenin-llynch) even factoring in the deaths due to incompetence solar has killed more people as a direct result of carbon emissions and the production of PM10 and below from the combustion of hydrocarbons and monoxide gas. I honestly don't mean to offend you but I just think that information is the only true form of power and the only way to combat climate change. nuclear is also cheaper. the technology is getting better. most uranium in power stations comes from ex WMDs so you can contribute to nuclear disarmament nuclear is not perfect but it is the only way to slow climate change until we can pump enough carbon back down into calcium carbonate (carboniferous rock/limestone can metamorphize to become marble) and that will take long otherwise we could face global dimming and huge changes in pollen, precipitation and migratory patterns after we have used nuclear exclusively for 50 yrs or so then we can begin to use other types of energy but still research the companies. I am just waiting on nuclear fusion reactors (my bets are on japan)

@spinning debbie 1. emphasis on * can * 2. the amount of waste created by solar panels is large and a significant portion of it is correctly disposed of however due to the shear volume of waste produced by solar panels 3. concrete boxes in the Irish sea is just an example of negligent incompetence and not a fault of the power, rather a fault with the current regulations and legislature imposed. sorry for being a karen (Caren ? IDK man ; just kill me already)

It depends what kind of facilities and help you may need, as at least to a certain extend can be feasible, you may find somewhere that would match or allow your requirements. Start to send emails to ecovillages. And if not possible now, at least would be an idea to consider for the future and other people with disabilities may finally join. I wish you the best.

This works well because it's a collective of dedicated people doing it voluntarily. The enforced collectivisation of the masses envisaged by some radical political groups would be a different story.

Living somewhere unauthorised/unlawfully is squatting, so it's the right word, there being negative connotations doesn't change that.
