So glad Joey is feeling better! You did the right thing taking him to the vet. I have a few tips for you that might help you and Joey in the future. I'm an OTR trucker traveling with 5 dogs who often gobble the nastiest of things out of the grass when they know I'm not looking. As long as they're drinking water and pooping, you're still OK. Make sure he has plenty of clean water to drink and offer it to him often. Just sticky rice is great when they're stomachs are upset. They don't have to have meat every day, especially when their system is inflamed, but I think the vet wanted you to put chicken in it just to make it more appealing to Joey. The sticky rice is the trick to fix him and add in a little of whatever you need so he'll eat it. Baby food meat might be a good option to add into the rice for Joey. Some dogs will eat it plain, some dogs won't eat it no matter what you put in it. I sometimes get the sticky rice from a Chinese restaurant when I'm on the road. Pepto Bismol is a fantastic way to help them get over stomach issues. It's safe for dogs and it's what dog lovers do when traveling with their kennels to dog shows. I try to let mine poop it out a bit (best to get that baddies out of their system) then I give mine half a caplet. My dogs are little like Joey so he wouldn't need any more than half a caplet either. Usually, one dose does the trick because Pepto Bismol actually kills bacteria whereas other brands just stop them up. If after two doses of PB they're still struggling, I go to the vet, which I almost never need to do. Just so you're prepared: PB gets their poop solid again but it will be very dark for a minute before it's normal again. That's nothing to worry about. You mentioned that he puked yellow foamy bile: That's normal if their stomachs have been empty too long. He wasn't eating because he didn't feel good so his stomach was probably empty long enough that his own stomach acid made him throw up. On another related note, I was looking at Joey's teeth. His bottom teeth are an issue because he can't close his mouth properly. Saliva is what prevents tooth decay and because he can't close his mouth those teeth aren't getting washed by his saliva. The bacteria that proliferate in teeth is very hard on their immune system and overall health, which makes it even harder for his system to overcome a food poisoning event. I highly recommend getting an enzymatic tooth cleaner and some guaze squares. Spray the tooth cleaning solution on the guaze and rub that over his teeth as thoroughly as he'll let you with your finger once a day. Much easier than brushing and should really help him out. I like Tropiclean Fresh Breath Instant Foam. Works great! Hoping anything above helps you two as much as it gets us through our travels. Praying safe journeys and great memories over you and sweet Joey. ❤️

Greater real life advice! I travel with a 10lb terrier who will eat anything not bigger than her. She snuffles around and grazes. Fast little goober too. So, I travel with medicinal clay. A teaspoon in wet food if she has loose stools. Will add Pepto Bismal to my medicine chest. Also the teeth cleaning is spot on. So, adding that too. Hope Amazon has it. Also adding , some rice. Boondocking and no Asian restaurants in desert. LOL Glad little Joey is turning the corner.

Aww...Poor Joe. Prayers for his quick healing. Have you ever heard of Golden Paste? It's a turmeric/coconut oil/black pepper concoction that is really good for dogs and people alike! My old gal, Zoey, in her last year, was diagnosed with a tumour on her clitoris (yes, you read that right). This paste can slow down the growth of tumours and also keep them from forming. It's amazing stuff. It is an anti-inflammatory, so helps with sore joints too. Zoey had a wonderful final year of life due to this stuff. The arthritis in her back was obviously improved as she got back that ease of movement and had more perk in her. I now give it to my 10 year old Bijon Frise X to ward off any aches and pains, cancer, etc and also take it myself. At 60, I am beginning to feel my age, lol! I can't recommend making a batch of this and trying it out highly enough. Google the recipe. So easy to make and use too. I mix Freddie's in with his dinner and he gobbles it up. I take mine by the spoonful and wash it down with tea every night. It's also inexpensive.

My dog had pancreatitis and the emergency vet told me the only way to treat it was to hospitalize. I took him home on pain meds and brought him to my regular vet the next day. They assured me that I could treat him at home and I was able to successfully do that. And avoid that $10,000 bill! So glad Joey is starting to feel better. You've been on quite an emotional rollercoaster lately. When things get rough for me I like to remind myself frequently that "this too shall pass".

The meds they are giving you is perfect. 10,000. 00 is absolutely insane. I spent 600.00 and thought that was a lot. So glad you are taking such good care of him. He will be fine. I've camped there at that spot on the west side of the Organ Mountains. The sunsets, star gazing and the lights of Las Cruces are amazing. Aww, poor sweet Joey. Hope by now he's feeling much better. He couldn't have a better mom. Also want to thank you for helping Russ. That was amazing even though it must have been so upsetting for you. I also travel full-time with my dog and senior cat. A couple of months ago we found a tiny 5-weeks-old kitten in the woods. She is blind and after having no luck finding a rescue group to take her in, decided to keep her. She has since cost me hundreds of dollars in vet expenses as she has petit mal seizures and has little to no appetite. On days she refuses food, I've been feeding her with a syringe. The tests they want to run on her cost a ridiculous amount and I'm told they will most likely be inconclusive anyway. I remember when our regular vets would work with us to figure out the best treatment options without running test after test from ear tip to tail tip often unrelated to the issues. All that aside, I'm being firm with this vet to give it his best guesstimate as to what is going on and not waste my limited financial resources. I'm not ready to give up on this tiny sweetheart who as I write this is perched on my shoulder purring loudly into my ear. Anyway, I think it's sad that many pets are euthanized simply because their people cannot afford treatment. You two take care and enjoy safe travels.

One of my dogs is very prone to pancreatitis. Go to tractor supply and get the can sensitive stomach food. Give it to him three times a day just little bit at a time couple tablespoons for about 3 days and it'll totally reset his system. I did the whole intensive care thing the first time and spent $600 and after I figured out how to reset her intestinal track I can do it at home now. And make sure he drinks, even if you give him an eye dropper full of water every hour that's enough to keep him from getting dehydrated. Also get him a probiotic.

I feel your pain. We were on vacation last week and our dog was so so sick with vomiting and diarrhea. She had no control of her bowels, it was everywhere. My husband took her in the middle of the night to an emergency veterinary clinic and they gave her the same meds as they gave Joey. She is finally better but she’s still on the antibiotic. It’s very scary when our fur babies get sick. Well wishes for Joey and you!

Between the move out of your mom's house, and then finding Russ which was out of his normal routine, then eating that thing--it was just all too much for his system . I hope once you get into your normal routine, he will start feeling better by being calm and relaxed in his home with you :)

I'm so glad that Joey is going to be better!! The cost of Vet care is extremely high and it's sad when it's hard sometimes just to get basic care! I adopted my cat (Lokie) from a animal shelter and they told me that he was in an accident and his tooth was knocked out, well they lied to me and half his tooth was still in his mouth and after about 18 months later he was showing signs of pain and I found out the truth, they wanted 1200. To pull it, that's the cheapest I could find, and I could not afford that, I tried doing a GoFundMe and didn't get a dime, I ended up having to surrender him back to the shelter. I was so heart broken and I still cry when I think about him!! 💔 That was 7 months ago and my heart heart is still missing him! I was very close to him and I will always miss him! I love you Lokie!! 😘❤️😢 Thank you Chantelle, for the video!!

If anything get a small Pkg. Of Hamburg cook it, drain and rinse with hot water. Then add cooked , rinsed rice. Small portions. It's worked for all 5 dogs I've had stomach, sick 🤮 issues. That way no worry about chicken issues. Beef is best. Just a thought. My vet for 30 years always suggested this.

My sweet Taz had pancreatitis and it is so scary! He made a full recovery but it can be very dangerous. Keep an eye on Joey because my Taz developed diabetes after having pancreatitis and is now on 2 insulin shots a day. Apparently, the pancreatitis completely destroyed his pancreas. I deal with chronic pancreatitis. Fast 24-48 hours. Electrolytes only. You can try dog electrolytes Pinterest has great recipe options for dogs. Keep him on a permanent low fat diet now. Enzymes if there’s some for dogs may help digestion. Praying he feels better. Once he gets it. He can easily get it again. That’s why low fat is extremely important. Hopefully it’s just an cute attack and not chronic starting. He’ll be ok!

Just a word of advise concerning dogs getting obstruction in gut from swallowing things. My former dog , passed of cancer at 10 years old, got an intestinal obstruction after swallowing a piece of supposedly safe chew bone thing from a very popular pet store. It was actually a goat hoof filled with softish dog treat. I had just assumed he would just chew the hoof like a bone. In retrospect maybe I should have thought more about it but they wouldn’t sell us something unsafe would they??? It turned into a nightmare. During the night he couldnt be still. Sitting, laying and immediately getting up again. I took him to the vet the next day and wanted them to X-ray, and they did see an obstruction. I never saw any blood and there was no vomiting. The vet said I could watch him over the week end and see I think that maybe it would pass. I asked the vet if it were his dog what would he do and he said he would operate now. So I didnt have the money and the vet said he couldnt let my dog die so I was let to write out 24 checks and leave the written out 24 checks and they used one check per month. It was very expensive. They showed me the thing they removed. It was a 2”x2” piece of hoof. And it was sharp around the edges so it was cutting into his intestine. They said he would been dead if I had taken him home for the week end. Not to mention the suffering. So all that to say be very careful what your dog chews. Of course sometimes you don’t know and they swallow a sock or something. The vet said he had even remove a soda can from big dog whole can.

I’m glad Joey is ok. Pancreatitis took my dog from me so I know how quickly it can come on and how badly they feel. I hope Joey feels better soon. You are a good dog mom and I am sure you will watch him like a hawk until he is better.

Pancreatitis is horrible. My little guy has had it 5x.y Vet finally put him on Royal Canin Gastrointestinal Low Fat formula and that cured him. He can eat raw veges, sweet potatoes and apples also. He also LOVES popcorn but I had to cut it out. No episodes x 2 yrs now. Good luck with sweet Joey 💖🌻🌺

My girl is acting up today. Threw up earlier this morning and not interested in food. Think she found something behind the shred. In a similar boat on a vet bill right now. Hoping chicken and rice with a little nonfat yogurt will calm her tummy. Hugs to Joey from Maisey.
