Hi, I’m Nico Murillo, and I recently got laid off from Tesla on 4/15/2024. I was a Production Supervisor, and was with the company for 5 years. I started in 2019, as an entry level Production Associate. After getting laid off, had to make the decision to sell the house. I decided to sell most of my belongings and move into my 2021 Tesla Model Y. When I worked at Tesla, I slept in my car on work days to avoid my 3 hour round trip commute time from Lathrop, Ca to Fremont, Ca. I created a platform in my trunk with the use of Michaels, Home Depot products, and a soft mattress, where I now call my home. Living in my car enables me to save money, and invest it. I am documenting my journey to financial independence by 2029. My hope is that by sharing my own personal highs and lows along this (sometimes) wild journey, you might be inspired to look into financial independence. Maybe one day i'll see you at GNC in Stoneridge Mall Pleasanton, Ca. I currently work there now as a supplements store manager. I am off Sundays and Wednesdays though.

It's overheating because it's hot inside the car. I work on refrigeration and the evaporator coil absorbs the heat of the food and the condenser coil next to the compressor gets rid of the heat but it won't be able to if it's too hot. The air outside the condenser should be 30 degrees less than the heat of the condenser in order for the condenser to get rid of the heat. If outside air is too hot it won't be able to and will just quit and will give out a fault. If the condenser is dirty or condenser fan is not running, it will not be able to get rid of the heat also so check and make sure condenser coil is clean and fan is good. Yes, you need to run cabin protection to at least 100 in order for your mini fridge to work. The other thing too is keep the condenser grill clear and not blocked to get rid of the heat and also for it not to overheat. Keep the fridge out in the open and not in the trunk compartment. Your car heat pump will have a hard time cooling too if it's too hot like right now. The reason why is because the gas has to be compressed over or up to 30 degrees over the outside air to get rid of the heat and turn the refrigerant back to liquid. Google Laws or Principle of Refrigeration to learn more.

Nico here’s the thing: you’re saving a huge amount of money on not having a mortgage but you also had a 6-figure salary that’s also now gone. I get why you took the GNC store manager job but that’s also a huge pay cut to what you used to earn. Have you thought about taking a sales consulting job in the EV/solar industry where you can earn a decent salary and commissions? Have you thought about going back into personal training online? If you don’t want to leave the GNC job here’s a suggestion: keep the GNC job but take on a gig job like DoorDash or Uber Eats (but not Ridesharing!). Do the 40 hour a week job and the gig work on the side all the while living and cooking out of your Tesla and working out and staying in great shape. I’ll bet there’s a bunch of people who do gig work either on the side or full time who may or may not have traditional housing who’d love to know how you do it and stay organized and fit and spend little money on food and eating out. There was a Vice documentary about an Uber driver who left her apartment and family to drive several hours a way and work and sleep in her car for the work week before driving back home on the weekends because she earned way more money on Uber that way and didn’t have to deal with the long commute. There are a handful of gig workers who work crazy long hours who have housing but end up sleeping in their cars to take breaks only because that’s how they can maximize their earnings. I know this sounds crazy but get a gig job and see if you can make the same if not more money than your GNC job. Then quit the GNC job and just do gig work. I honestly think you’d do really well at it and you’d basically get a major audience from all the gig workers out there because eating out is such a huge expense. Almost none of the gig KZbinrs talk about this and some of the ones that do say they just drive back home to eat, which is stupid because you just lost the opportunity to earn to the commute back home. Keep up the KZbin community growing but your income won’t come from KZbin, it’ll come from the paid communities that spawn from that. Then at that point you’ll have become a self-sustaining content creator.

Nico's parents here...we see your point regarding the gig work economy...very insightful...there's quite a need to help those gain a leg up in their finances in that sector of the economy...our only concern for Nico is to take on another responsibility...we hope this extra challenge would not damper or diminish his current obligations...however if he believes in it enough...he maybe able to pull it off...he must do it to help those in need not for subscriber count or views...thank you very much for your advice on this matter...we will surely discuss your comments at our upcoming family gathering...much respect & best regards Sylvia & Manuel

Hey Nico, when I first saw you cooking in your Tesla with a portable gas stove, I also thought that was a bit of a fire hazard, especially when you have so much stuff cramped in a small space. Have you thought about cooking with a portable induction cooker? Using one would also mean you don't need to keep gas canisters in your car. You could end up saving space, and reducing your fire risk.

I’m only two videos in but as a state employee definitely check out libraries and municipal level 2 and sometimes level 3 charging as they are often free,at least in my state. 2nd the airflow around that cooler could be improved as well. I know you’re trying to save as much as possible but some proper prep would go a long way like when I see condensation on the rear air vents being blocked by your mattress. The other comments I see that say get an apartment or an RV defeat the purpose of his goal to me. As I hopefully see this channel paying out in the long run as well as it just being interesting KZbin content more than an RV or an apartment that everyone else has. Lastly, with all the Fed/State funding, I would reach out to your local DOT and see if they are willing to partner with you on some videos for either free charging or some type of compensation for showing EV capabilities. I know my DOT is, but I’m on the East Coast…maybe even your gym to get EV charging.

Mate, consider joining the forces. Young, fit, disciplined, motivated, you would fit in and do well. You're essentially living a free man, living and working out of your car. Take the plunge and join, Army, Marine Corps, Navy or Air Force. Even if you committed to the minimum service length and discharge that would be killer for your life experience and CV. You can still keep the KZbin channel and share when you can. Park your EV at your parents while doing your Military training. Anyway mate all the best.
