Pursuing a career in any type of art is often romanticized because it's led by passion, but 'Tick, Tick... BOOM!' explores otherwise. The artist's journey is not pretty, it's not glamorous, and it is NOT easy. In fact, it requires a painful amount of hard work and patience. This is an analysis of 'Tick, Tick... BOOM!'
Jonathan Larson (played by Andrew Garfield) is a playwright whose been developing his musical for YEARS, just waiting for his big break. He's determined to make it big, but every day he gets older, his hope and confidence is beaten down more and more. What do you do when your dreams aren't coming to light? How do you decide if you should cut your losses short or keep going? 'Tick, Tick... BOOM!' shows a raw and honest story of all of this that ALL aspiring artists should take note of...for better or for worse.

Ahhhh I love Tick Tick Boom. I really resonated with its depiction of the artist's journey too (also helps that the soundtrack is AMAZING, 10/10 bops). Also, I feel like a lot of movies depicting this journey (*cough cough* La la land *Cough cough*) explore this idea in relation to Hollywood/California (which, fair). Not to say New York is some underutilized setting in film loooool, not by a long shot, but I do love how this movie uses the city as another player in the story.
