Thank you, Daniel, for the great advice. We are staying in Tolo for 10 days and this video of yours came exactly at the right time. Yesterday evening, following your lead, my wife and I went to Τ´Αλώνια for dinner and we didn’t regret it. We had some bourekakia, κολοκυθοκεφτέδες (fried zucchini balls), goges and mixed grilled meat for two and everything was amazing. We've been vacationing in Greece for 20 years and came to gauge restaurants on a few staple dishes, κολοκυθοκεφτέδες is one of them. The ones we had yesterday evening were among top few we ever had in 20 years. They were freshly made and the aroma of mint stood out like crazy, delicious. The rest of the dinner was on the same level, we appreciated Goges, first time we had them, and the meat was just great too. Thank you again for the great advice!

The Horta looked so fresh and delicious. I remember driving down the highway in the United States with my Papou and Thea and she yelled stopped the car. She jumped out of the car and pulled a knife and a plastic bag out of her purse and started cutting the grass. I asked my Papou, what is she doing? He said she found Horta. He was so happy.

@MyGreekLifestyle you also have to try the Taverna Μπατζαβαλης, in Karatza, a bit further from Lygourio. Μπατζαβαλης serves huge, tasty steaks, Greek salad with a half a kilo block of feta cheese, a beef burger that is almost enough to feed a whole family and a platter sized τηγανοψωμο while also being affordable 😊 I recommend that you call them to pre-book before arriving, as they tend to be quite busy at times and there can be queues of people waiting to get a table.

For traditional food (especially for those who like lamb) in villages near Nafplio (10-12 kilometers) I recommend: Birbos (Panariti), Panagoulis and Zervas (Manesi), Thea (Amygdalitsa)

Try karamalis in nafplio. Everyday they have greek traditional food. Ntolmades,gemista,pastitsio,mousaka,fasolakia...Both locals and tourists going to that restaurant

Horta really are one of those things you only enjoy in Greece.... In the rest of the world, or almost all the rest of the world, they don't eat them and look at you like if you are mad when you explain what they are... Horta fresh made, with olive oil and lots of freshly squeezed lemon, and fresh fish just grilled and smelling like heaven... What else can you want in summer....

Gave it a try last night, fully crowded place. Took a poikilia (meat variety) which was kinda disappointing. It contained provatina (lamb) which was harder than chewing gum. Most everything else was good, other than the ntakos salad, whereas the bread (paximadi) was rock-solid. It is supposed to be soaked before serving. Prices were ok, the personnel was good, but i wouldn't call this the best Greek taverna around the area.

That is not true. Quite the opposite! In Nafplio nowadays restaurants/tavernas are very expensive. This place is serving amazing food and the prices are excellent for what you're getting. But then again, food is such a personal thing. What one likes doesn't mean the other one will like it, too.
