Hi. Love your videos. Very instructional. My husband and I are wanting to retire in Madrid in 2025 in a neighborhood where we do not need a car and is dog friendly. Love the Idealista platform.

That is so sweet! Thank you! Madrid is a great place to retire!! I think chamberi and Salamanca are great neighborhoods for that. Even Chamartin (in the area closest to the center) is another great option. Salamanca being the most expensive one

What did you do in Miami for a living that allowed you to move to Spain? Did you need a work visa? It would be nice for context how much money (range) and type of job someone needs to have to be able to pull this off.

Hi! I’m an online therapist and my husband is a trader. My husband’s dad is Spanish and born in Spain so that’s how my husband is a citizen and gave me the spouse visa. I think it’s best to make at least €3,000 a month in order to have a nice life in madrid. That puts you also above the average salary, so it’s more desirable for tenants

Hey Dani I am moving to Spain with the family. Also from Venezuela originally. What would you recommend more? Malaga or Alicante? We want coastal towns that was well connected. Great videos!

Hiii! How lovely! Thank you for asking. Hmm I think most people prefer Malaga. Is more “city”. If I were you I’d also try to learn about the cultural differences between the 2 regions (Valencia/alicante vs Andalucía/malaga). In Alicante they have bonfires, they speak valenciano and Spanish, their culture is a bit different. In Andalucía they only speak Spanish, they have flamenco events, they’re very friendly happy and loud. Those are things I can think of right off the bat. But you can read more about it and see what is more aligned to your family! Alicante rent is more affordable, but I think malaga could be a better place to live (although I really dislike their port lol)

I speak Spanish; my husband does not but is studying. When interacting with real estate agents, would being retired and on specific monthly pensions be a disqualifyer for some landlords/owners? In other words, if we can show that we have significant retirement resources in a US bank, and receive Social Security, would that give landlords/owners sufficient assurances that we would be good long-term tenants?

Hi! It really depends on the tenant… some are more difficult than others. In our case, we had one tenant that had no problem with it at all. Our current tenant made us put 6 months of rent in advance, which was wild. We believe we showed significantly more funds than an average Spanish can show. And that wasn’t enough for him.

Hello Dani, thank you for this information, do you have a video where you explain how we can rent an apartment as foreigners or tourists or explain the immigration process with visas? We are from Florida and my family and I with 3 children under 3 years old want to go to Madrid in the next few months. Thanks!

Hi! I explain it all in this video actually :) but visas are more complicated. I only know how it is to go through what I went through to get my residency. You can check my video on “how I became a Spanish resident in Spain”. Hope that helps :)

Hi! We are considering moving to Spain and we also have a toddler and 2 dogs. Is it challenging to find apartments that are more modern looking and have nice amenities? I feel like by having 2 dogs, it will make it very difficult to find a place.

Hi!! IT is super hard to find apartments in Madrid. Especially if you are too used to American style distributions and amenities. We have been looking for the last month and still haven't found. the perfect one. I get rejected in many because I have kids. Im sure pets will make it worse... If you are willing to have a car, look into Puzuelos, Valdemarin, Fuentelareina (here you will find bigger apartments with amenities). If you want to stay in the city and have a good budget, Moncloa/Calle Rosales. And if you have a BIG budget, then El Viso. They have an area with Chalets/Villas and some buildings are big, but not sure about amenities. However, you will have all services nearby so no need to have a car. I also like Salamanca/ Castellana area where I live but not a lot. ofplaces to take kids :( / More questions ??

The prices of the apartments aren't realistic considering the minimum wage in Spain is 1100 Euros a month.

Let me give you a tip. Go to your bank and obtain a service that will allow you to rent by creating some type of collateral at the bank. That's the way to go as a foreigner. You're paying too much to rent an apartment. $1500/month should be max.

hence the problem...sadly apartments are not priced for locals and especially those with moderate jobs and income.
