@@JakeMcCollum I think there's a big stigma around mental health medication; I had that same apprehension before starting medication. It has helped me far more than hindered me. I think of it this way. If you had a heart issue and had to take medicine to live, you would. Mental Health is no different. Our brains are an organ that need assistance sometimes too. And some of us are wired differently than others, which is totally ok, but sometimes our minds need a little help too.

Slept in my van for a year in Santa Cruz. If the cops catch you doing that they’ll make you leave town. Sometimes I went to the RV pay beach near Capitola, they have showers. Used to be $1.50 per night there. That was a while ago.

Bay Area native here: there are no Walmart’s in the city limits of SF. As someone who use to sleep in my car during college, I recommend any residential small street of the twin peaks or presidio heights neighborhood.

youre an inspiration to many many folks, including me. in 2018 my business partner screwed me out of over 150k! and ever since then itsbeen a mental struggle! you have progressed so much better than i have and im in awe of you. i know exactly what you mean about the mind wandering. keep fighting, keep active (cali has its down sides but it also has amazing weather, places where u can shower and allowed to live in car - none of these can be done in the uk and our covid lockdown keeps continuing), keep doing what youre doing because you are a special soul with a lot more strength than you give yourself credit for (i could not do what youre doing with the positivity you have). bless you Jake

Hello Jake! Welcome to Northern California. East Bay native here. I find thr Martinez Marina a nice place to walk and get outdoors they also have a small skate park and cool downtown area. I've noticed people camping out in the large parking lot. But this side of east bay is pretty nice places to Uber, and door dash. Martinez, Pleasant Hill , Walnut Creek, San Ramon . San Francisco. Yes!! YES!! WOOOHOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! YES! YES YES! I visited California in 2009, 2010, and 2012 when I was 9, 10, and 12 years old respectively and have been yearning to go back ever since. It was such a magical place to me as a kid. With my UCLA grad school acceptance, I'll be going back (for a brief stint to tour UCLA and USC) in a couple of weeks or so! And I'll return more permanently this fall if I do end up enrolling there! In the meantime, I get to watch your videos to get my daily "California fix." I get to vicariously experience California through you in the meantime 😊😊😊

Totally understand man. I used to be addicted to opiates, and I sometimes think about doing them when I get down. I do take suboxone to help with the maintenance, but there's always that little voice gnawing in my head. Please keep your sobriety and resist those urges. I know you can do it! 💯👊👍🙂

I go to a clinic, go to regular counseling, and take what I'm supposed to. I'm also tapering down and eventually will be off of these, hang in there, it will pay off in the long run 👊

@@JakeMcCollum Yea SF is kinda hard for parking lot life so you gotta make do in the quiet areas. Theres a little strip by Funston ave and Park Presidio Blvd. There's houses across the street and a little side park you can park at. Super quiet area and I parked there a lot. Although be careful going near Golden Gate Park. It gets sketchy at night.

Totally agree. You can't park in industrial/commercial areas as much, I don't think. In Oakland you can park anywhere, but it can be really sketchy. Richmond, or Sunset areas are the best.

My mental health started taking a dive while I was out there too. I began feeling isolated. I've been back in Georgia for little over a week now and just being around people who love and care for me has made a world of difference. The weather is cold and dreary here and I miss the beautiful California sky but I had to do what was best for my overall health. Take care of yourself and always do what's best for You. Jake, that was a great video. I live in north of the GG Bridge & expected the worst for you coming here, but you seem to make the place lighter. It's been cold & dreary, but for you it's a new place! I know a lot of people who live in their cars around the GG Bridge-it can be done!! Tuesday morning starting at 8 am to 10 am there are showers in Sausalito at the MLK tennis courts on Marinship Road just past Mollie Stones. At the small intersection of Marinship and Testa you will see the mobile shower unit & a small parking lot. People there can tell you where to park for the night. They are great folks who will help you out. Best of luck to you around here. Beautiful places to walk in Marin.
