I saw a few comments already: "Where is that tunnel." I BELIEVE it's part of an apartment complex and trespassing if you go inside. It's in Chelsea, around the corner from the Club Marquee, the same street that you can see the Highline and the little red house. Right side of the street.

If you just have an AC in a small bedroom, it's nowhere near $100 a month. It's maybe more like $30. Also, after surviving bed bugs and the multiple treatments it took to get rid of them, I pretty much refuse to deal with used furniture, It's not worth the risk.

I live 10 minutes away by walking to the Sheepshead Bay Train Station. Buses that serve Sheepshead Bay B4, B36, B49 . At Nostrand Ave in Sheepshead Bay is the B44 and B44-SBS. Neighborhood is very good and safe. Sheepshead Bay is a residential neighborhood mostly houses and some apartments.

Bet you knew you'd get me started when you mentioned York Ave. Actually the Q is now really close, but for much of my time here I worked in the Chanin Bldg. Working at one of the busiest intersections on earth, then riding the 4/5/6 to 86th was crazy, but tension just peeled away as I walked east and it got quieter each block until finally I could see Carl Schurz Park at the end of my block. Pretty great place to live in Manhattan. And now the Ferry stops at 90th. Imagine, you have to walk through a park during your commute.

Here's a tip I have. While convenience is a plus, I think first time New Yorkers should move to one of the outer boroughs, probably away from Manhattan. As you know Jon, I lived at the end of the M and R in Forest Hills for quite a while, and I've found that rent and mortgage prices in that area, as well as other parts of the city like Bensonhurst, Jamaica, and Norwood tend to be cheaper than say, Greenwich Village, Williamsburg, or LIC. Yeah, commute time can be a bit longer, but I kinda see it as the reason why my parents and I still live here. Also, where was that tunnel at the end of the video located?

As a frugal person, I’ve done all of these tips even before NYC. I totally cook and go to the cheapest supermarket…. Great tip on the bodega that has people that know you. Dating a woman for the air conditioning is pretty low though. Guys and gals - don’t do that. Get a better job and add more value to the world instead of mooching off others. Pick your friends and roommates consciously. If not your life will always be mediocre. Most humans in this society are asleep and do things unconsciously and without adding much value. Add value to the world more than you take.

If you don't care about eating repetitive things and just want cheap but delicious food, learn how to bake/grill chicken and get a rice cooker. You can be somewhat lazy and do rice and veggies with very little management and if you bake the chicken its mostly just waiting. chicken(or meat, use your freezer and stock up on sales!)+veggies+rice=cheap good rounded meal you can have multiple times a week. You can even cook the chicken all at once and reheat throughout the week.

Mostly good advice but you lost me at no AC. That was the first thing I bought when I moved here. Yes, rents are low right now but you probably won't be able to move into a building designed by Zaha Hadid (6:01).

hahaa. This was advice if you're really really looking to save money. Maybe it was extreme, I think some non-Americans could handle it actually.

Drinks are really expensive I guess it's where you go, I forget where this was but my drink was $24.00 ridiculous, no drink should be $24.00 and no one should pay $24.00 for a drink, part of it was for the ambiance and experience but it wasn't that great and the drink was average shame on me

I really like your math skills! $50/week=$200/mo=$2000/year, with such math skills it will be tough to make it in NY

I could not live in such a small place for that price. My 1900 sq ft home with a pool is only $1600.00 a month in Florida.

People in nyc are so mean. I wanted to move there into I was there as a tourist and I got attached in the elevator. The NYPD came and asked me why I called them.

No you have a point. I think the perception is cheap food filled w carbs. But I’ve found some great stuff (tofu) that would definitely qualify. I should have said , dollar pizza or fried dumplings!
