How come when gringos come to Peru they are called "expats" and when peruvians go to the US, we are called "immigrants"?
@beasleyfinds3 ай бұрын
I've explained this too many times.. if you are just living in another country but don't plan on staying forever that's an expat. Immigrants immigrate (permanently usually) to another country. Sometimes legally sometimes illegally but usually with the intention of staying. Alternatively, an expat plans on returning to their home country. They are living temporarily in another country for work or other reasons. If they go through the immigration process they are immigrants. Is that enough of an explanation? If not, Google it!

Usually also, "immigrants " that come to USA from third world countries come here illegally. They come with no money using American resources like schools for their children,hospitals,welfare, etc,etc,etc. Many of them don't pay taxes and they send most of their money to their country of origin which doesn't help the American economy. Americans on the other hand take their own money and invest in the country they are moving to. When do you see a poor American taking free stuff and services paid by Peruvian taxpayers?

I very strongly believe it is the cost of living 'mostly'. Doubtful it is from a desire to learn Spanish ! --?-- So many other countries are getting many expats from all over the place also. Grass is greener in many cases for sure - some for ethnic reasons perhaps also a few generations removed maybe ? -- Biden's America has driven many to homelessness - or - very near it - and inflation is ridiculous. Other states that were cheaper have seen illegal immigration exacerbate the affordable housing crisis - practically nationwide ! - - - Many countries are now seeing the influx of expats - driving up the prices for locals and causing severe inflation for them ! --?-- As people move and relocate looking for a better life - having a worse one where they are now. - - - And so it goes........
