4:04 On the left side you can see that a "mototaxi" is leaving (the personal transportation of people with low economic resources), so, the gated community is not that gated, the "militarized" entrance is for vehicle registration but They do not prevent you from entering, I have entered several times with my friends to go to the beach, they never restricted our access, they only asked us the reason for our entry, they recorded how many of us there were and we passed. If you go on foot, by bicycle, scooter, etc. you can enter directly without any registration or questions, in fact, there is a free pass next to it. You went through the main entrance that has the porch but there are other secondary entrances that do not have it. You can also enter from the beach which, by the way, is public but very uncrowded because there is no business in the surrounding area and the waves are very strong, me and my friends went there for that reason, it was like going to the end of the world.

200 years, 200 years and the poor are still poor, the only ones who feel what it is like to live in the first world are the rich, a small tiny sector enjoys 200 years of hard work of the working masses
@CitizenStigma
@CitizenStigma 2 ай бұрын
Sure bro, that's the reason people are poor because of 200 years of rich people being rich. Superficial thoughts like yours are the actual reason poor people think they can't do better. You don't even realize that you benefit those same rich people you're critizing by perpetuating these simple minded comments. What's hard work to you? Are people still slaves nowadays? Have you actually worked in Peru? And if you have, have you actually payed attention to peruvian idiosyncrasy? The traditional ''Ya que chucha, así nomás'' or our amazing traffic and fine with the fact that we can bribe police so easily. Doing things, just because and not actually putting effort, that's what you call hard work? Because sweating isn't hard work. You can do something in pilot mode without caring about what you're doing. The fact that everyone lives with their family until they're on their 30s or more. We're also so well known for arriving on time or never missing a beat. Delivering everything on time, having amazing work ethic. Or even the people asking for money at the traffic lights, that when you offer them a formal job (have done it in the past) or another opportunity they reject it because according to them, they make way more money, doing what they're doing. The amazing hygiene we have as a society and our amazing criminality rates, that not only exist because of venezuelans like many people here like to say. I remember thieves have always existed and how proud people from Callao are, that Callao is a dangerous district. I know it because I was raised in Callao. We're a chaotic society and you think the problem is because rich purposely kept people poor? Yeah, all of the previous problems are because of the rich. You think rich people actually want to live surrounded by all this chaos? I'm not celebrating rich people, they have a bunch of faults but resuming poverty in 200 years of independence to the rich amassing money is a really narrow way of looking at the issues of this country. Everything comes from home, this country is a reflection of everyone and we as a society have a huge issue of being fine with our current state. The first people that have to change, is everyone trying to find who to blame for their sad lifes instead of accepting their own responsibility. What are we so tired of as a society? We don't work hard, we should start working harder as a whole. I dare any tourist that comes and does all this criticism to try to live at least for one or two months in Peru and actually deal with the everyday life here, instead of looking at things so superficially.

Leave it to people that fantasize what a perfect World should look like and hence hate their interpretation of reality. Regardless of what you try to explain to her, she will just find something else she does not understand or interpret correctly but is ready to criticize. Never mind this is easier than going to City of West Palm Beach in South Florida, where a 20 minute drive will take you from the richest houses in the country to the poorest people in the Northern Hemisphere.

Thanks for making this and sharing. I visited Lima over 20 years ago and liked it a lot, even the "shanty towns". Despite the wealth disparity, Lima does appear to be a better, cleaner, and safer city than it was years ago. Peru is a wonderful country overall, great people, and I'd go back tomorrow if I had the money to do so.

@@dmilja19 exactly. That's the kind of story we heard from Argentina, Colombia, Brazil or Mexico a couple of decades ago. Wealth inequality and a series of corrupt governments only made it worse. The contrast is less pronounced from area to area. If you drive from Las Casuarinas to Pamplona Alta, you will find middle class neightboorhods in southeastern Surco and then working class areas in middle SJM. Pamplona Alta, Pamplona Baja and proper San Juan have different realities.

If you think that is a shantytown, you are up for a surprise. Villa El Salvador may be a poor district, but they do not see themselves as a shantytown by any stretch. I use the same word. Villa el salvador is definitely NOT a shanty town, it has parts near the mountains that could be considered shanty towny, but that's a minority of the district And its nothing at all like a favela in Brazil. People who colonized the district grew it from literal dirt 50 years ago to 3-5 story houses, industrial areas, huge parks, businesses, universities, etc. The difference is in the flatland and the hills within the same district, more recent migrants vs more established migrants. Miraflores is an old district, 170 years old.

Thank you for your video. The cultural influence coming from the USA is accepted as standard in Peru. Hence, Peruvian people justified the ever circle of poverty that is endemic in Peru. Little Peruvian people know that Governments in other advanced countries are continously working for people to break the circle of poverty and elevate their standard of living giving them good public education, universal health, access to tertiary education is not determined by how rich is their family, giving access people to the wealth of the nation, continuos fight against corruption, etc. Until there is a cultural change in the Peruvian society and start looking up to another develop countries, nothing will be done to fight poverty and it will be accepted as part of their society.

I visited and explored some poor neighborhoods. My host would not allow me to film in those rough neighborhoods. It’s seen as insult to be a foreigner filming. I met some wealthy hardware store owner who invited me over to dinner. He had a 20 car parking garage under his pool. A guard shack and an electric fence. There were two prices on everything. What locals pay and what foreigners pay. Had to have my host buy everything to get bargain prices.

There are so many narrow views of Lima based on subjective first impressions. Honestly the best thing about the video was the statistics that the richest 20% own half of the countries wealth. I see there’s a desperate need to create a true informative video about the city from a local. Lima is a really weird city, and its nuances need to be properly explained. So far I haven’t found a single video in English, I may just make one.
