Very interesting Shaun, many thanks for sharing. We see the same here in the U.K. too but with the added bonus of significant green and social taxes applied to the ever rising energy bills. Take care when assessing those other price rises and saying “it’s OK”. When something only goes up from 40 to 50 euros a month, it may not look a lot in euros but it is a big percentage. All those major percentage but small euro increases add up to a big euro increase overall. Tips… Instead of aircon, I tend to go naked when it is hot which to be honest doesn’t go down too well in the car, at Tescos or picking the grandkids up from school and it might impact the attendance at Camposol Explorer outings if you try it. This winter I am going to wear an entire sheep instead of putting the heating on.😁 More realistically, I am just gonna have to take it on the chin. At her age mum needs cooling in summer and the house needs to be an oppressive 26+ at all times in winter which given her antiquated heating system is gonna be quite a bill. What has to be will be though, we will muddle through somehow. 👍
Жыл бұрын
Cheers Kev, yes have to look on the bright side of things and when Tony Blair got into government, things can only get better, really 😳 I wish I could live without the air conditioning, but if I can still afford it, have it on, the same with the winter, heating on, sat in my pants!!!! It’s going to be interesting times this winter and next year, if things don’t get better. Many thanks for watching, top man 👍🇪🇸

Thank you for your vlog. This is being played out in the Continental USA as well, huge increases in utilities while pensions or fixed incomes for seniors are not keeping up despite COLA hikes. Highlights the importance of planning and setting money aside for bills that are difficult to avoid-heating cooling healthcare etc., I’m hoping it gets better for you and your situation.

I do like your show Shaun and I am very likely to move there in the next couple of years, just one point though as regards solar panels, I think your buddy has an old system installed, the older models did require lots of light the more modern systems are considerably more efficient to the point where dull overcast days have no discernible difference. The modern solar power units are being installed throughout Ireland on all new builds and grants are provided for older builds, most people have found that their electric bill has dropped by 30% which isn't bad considering that we have little more than a month of actual sunshine and three more months of dry weather ( this is a perishing kip). Overall as a potential Irish expat those costs are still less than half of what we pay and as such is considerably more cost effective. It might be a viable option of sourcing external insulation on houses in camposol, relatively cheap and not ugly, that might be a discussion for a future podcast
Жыл бұрын
Hi Howard, many thanks for your comment and regard the solar panels, I’ve made many discussions about solar power here, we have a huge solar farm just outside Camposol and many more each year across the land. The bank can give us a loan to install but to me very expensive for what it is. At the moment, I’m paying a gas tax on my electricity, we don’t have gas, something the Spanish government has imposed. So solar power has great interest here, Many thanks for watching 👍🇪🇸

I've never heard of the gas tax! Very interesting video content and it's always good to compare. Are you with Iberdrola? I am and have the night-time plan which gives half-price electricity from 10 pm until 12am midday at this time of year and an hour ahead in the Spring time. Summer bills average 100 euros over three months running ac 24/7. Living in a 3-bed chalet Orihuela costa and my bills are normally 60 euros.

Hi, We found your video very good. We live in San Miguel de Salinas not so far from you and have a villa with a pool. We also had a shock with our electricity bill especially in July and August when the weather, like you indicted, was consistently very hot. One significant user of electricity is a pool pump so we run ours after midnight when electricity is in tariff P3. Over a year ago the high tariff P1 was more than double the P3 rate, although right now the difference on a flexi contract is only about 20% less, but it all helps. What surprises me is the villa next to me which is a holiday home / rental runs the pool pump for 6 hours every day all year round, their bill must be horrendous. We are thinking of solar to power the pool pump, we would be interested to know if anyone else has invested in this? How do you keep your water bill so low in the Summer, ours is 5 times higher!! Do you use a pool cover to reduce evaporation, I would like to know if they save significant water? Kind regards, John.
Жыл бұрын
Hi John, many thanks for your comment and any way of keeping the bills cheaper is always helpful. If we had not changed our electric contract last year we would be having a cheaper bill without this gas tax but our friends had a bigger home and their electric bills a lot cheaper. Even now, some of our friends bills are still very cheap but they will be paying this tax soon. Reference the water, we have no cover and my wife likes to water the garden plants 2 to 3 times a week during the summer and also we top up the pool at least once a week but thankfully the bill is not too bad. I can only imagine, each region or town maybe on a different rate? I heard having solar for the pool, manly for heating, waste of money and also solar power is so expensive to install and I don’t see many people in my area who have it fitted. Our bank was going to loan us the money, but still worked out very expensive to make a return on it. Hopefully others will reply to your comment. Many thanks for watching 👍🇪🇸

Hi, I'm already a resident in Spain, so this would be extra added costs and savings that would have to be put by for living here in Spain. If I had to move to Spain now with the NLV, plus the extra money needed to move and after 6 months, taking a driving test, this may have put us off moving to Spain. Hopefully my video gives you some idea with just normal cost while living here. Still best thing I've ever done and love living here. Many thanks for watching :)

@ if you drive 10.000 km per year with a EV you need 10 solar panels 350watt to produce more than enough. Now that it’s legal to have them on your property in Spain this is the best long term investment that you can make in sunny Spain. Electrical car are getting cheaper by the day. Even SEAT. Soon you can use your EV with V2G and have a 50kW battery as backup. You are not going off grid just buying less electricity from the grid.
@Top12Boardsport
@Top12Boardsport Жыл бұрын
A BEV needs 1-2 kW per 10km depending on size. So if you drive 10.000 km per year you need to produce 2000 kW per year a 300 watt solar panel produces about 300kW per year. So 10 panels 3000kW per year. Cost to install with inverter about € 3.000 will last for 50 years at least and will increase value of property.

You live in spain but dont have solar and BATTERY'S? One of the first thing I would do. Buy some solar panels of ebay, batteries and inverter kit etc (not though a company who's looking to charge high prices to stupid and incompetent people). Pay a local electrician to come and install. This method doesnt cost 10k+

The cost, wish it was 10K or less, you only got to look around here in Spain to ask the same question 🙋‍♂️ Why no solar energy, cost too much.
