Yeah, most folks think Jethro Tull is a "He" (The flutist/vocalist), but is actually a "They" (The entire band). The percussionist in this video was a bit of a "strange fellow" in his own right ..... I crack up every time I see his face, while maniacally shaking those maracas. Ian Anderson's voice is unmistakable, and his antics of twirling his flute like a baton, as well as often standing on one leg while playing it, are iconic.

Hi Patrick, yes I agree. I think a lot of people that Ian Anderson is Jethro Tull. They are all characters for sure and very talented 😊

"Mother Goose" is a great one by them. It's very English folk/medieval spiced with a tiny bit of rock. It's on their most popular album Aqualung.

Hi Sue, back to annoy you😅 Yay JT👍 Yes probably their most recognisable piece for non Tull fans. Ian was self taught and mastered things like the "flutter tongue" technique; this upset many classicly trained flautists, along the baton twirling of his flute sent shock waves through the flute community. Check out their "locomotive breath" live in concert it's superb. 😊 Great video again Sue👏 DYK?Their name comes from the inventor of the horse drawn seed drill in 1700s and provide the basis for modern agriculture.

Hey my friend, always love it when you respond, Jono! It is so funny so many people have to get their noses out of joint about the dumbest things. He is an amazing musician. I had no idea about where their name came from. That is a cool fun fact. Ok I will check it out. Thanks a bunch 🤩💙

I saw Tull overseas in Germany in mid 70s. Their LPs were very popular in the US. Many bands had success with LPs, not with singles. Radio play was tame on AM during days. Not so underground at night though. If you asked most fans, I seriously doubt that they would mention this song as their favorite. The Aqualung LP would have many favorite songs. They also did some songs taking a whole side or more of an LP like "Thick as a Brick" (43 mins) and "Passion Play" (45 mins). It was not uncommon for many bands to have songs that lasted a whole side or more. The Allman Brothers "Mountain Jam" is 33 minutes long.

Hey Willieboy, I bet that was a great show to see...one you will remember always. I had no idea there were so many songs that played the whole side of an album...that is very cool 🤗💜

I really only know the handful of Jethro Tull's songs that get played the most on the radio, including this one, "Thick As A Brick", "Bungle In The Jungle", and "Aqualung" .. I liked them all, but these were probably their most commercially viable mainstream numbers, and from what I can gather their staple material was more strongly progressive rock .. Ian Anderson was indeed hugely talented Sue, and a real character as well .. Great live performer, who often liked to stand on one leg while playing.😅 BTW, did you know Jethro Tull was named after a well known English agricultural inventor of farming equipment .. Why they did that, I couldn't fathom a guess.🤔🤔🤔

Hi Wayne, Ian definitely seemed like a character in this video, the whole group did. I love it when really good musicians can have fun with what they are doing. I am the same as you. I think I only know more of his commercial stuff but that will give me lots to explore 😄 I wonder how and why they took that name. It is an odd influence for a progressive rock band but it does sound cool and as we discussed, they are characters but still an interesting way to get a name 🤩❤️

Tull is made up of serious musicians who don't take themselves too seriously, their live performance is satire
