I just wanted ti say thank you. You are truly an intelligent critic of these comics. I am 51 years old now and I started collecting at 16 years of age with Marvel Comics first ( Secret Wars story arcs, The Beyonder, Masters of Evil, etc,,). I didn't get into the DC group until after the 1989 Batman movie. My first comic book from DC was a book called Death In The Family and I have gone back and forth in back DC issues and super heroes up until to the New 52. I missed out on a lot of comics in between 1994-2008. I am glad to be subscribed to your series to catch uo on what I have missed. Thank you.

Firstly, hell yes to the idea of A Complete History of Sinestro video. That would be amazing. Secondly, I feel like the perfect Two-Face has yet to be seen outside of the comics. The DCAU got close, but the switch from parental abuse to bullying makes Two-Face's entire existence feel a bit cheaper (to me, at least), and I always thought that we never saw enough of him as Harvey to get a more fleshed out idea of his friendships with Bruce, Jim and Harvey Bullock, so it falls a bit short of perfection. Most other interpretations of the character range from entertaining (Brave and the Bold) to awful (Batman Forever), but in the end none live up to the potential Two-Face has. My personal ideal Two-Face would be abused by his father identically to how he was in Eye of The Beholder, show some issues throughout his childhood and become unpopular at school, have a bit of a more fleshed out life between his childhood and becoming DA (I choose to go with two years of Air Force service, as well as a short history with Pamela Isley in college, both references to the DCAU), becomes a DA a few years before Bruce returns to Gotham and becomes Batman, marries Gilda Dent within a year of becoming DA, and spent a good amount of time as DA while Bruce is around before physically becoming Two-Face (I have it listed as happening in May of Year Two) to properly show how these people grow close as allies and friends. He would be a genuine case of DID, he hates everyone but Bruce and Gilda, his coin-flipping would be him "channelling" the same impartial force as his father seemingly did throughout his childhood, he'd occasionally try to "cheat" the game as his attempt at fighting against his illness by re-flipping the coin (not realising that his act of defiance is actually completely ineffective), and the only person on Earth who could get him to act without the coin is Gilda, who clings on to the hope of him eventually being redeemed alongside Bruce. As for how the coin itself works in Harvey's mind beyond the obvious, if the coin lands and doesn't fall on either side, he'll just do nothing and leave the situation be, seeing it as Fate not wanting him to be involved in any way, while an unidentifiable result will result in Panic Attacks and other severe freak-outs. I personally think that this would be a pitch-perfect Two-Face, but that's just me. He's a tragic being; a man born from a monster disguised as a knight who dedicated his life to locking up monsters like him, only to end up becoming one himself. His coin tricks, a thing often glossed over as "just what Two-Face does" are not only explained but have defined rules that Harvey usually feels obligated to follow. The only problem I have with this is that I don't really explain why Harv chooses to become a Crime Boss, but I'm thinking that could be connected to the whole "I convince The Other Guy to commit small-scale crimes" thing from ASBAR 2.0, in this case he keeps as many people under his heel as possible and turns them against the other crime bosses (Penguin, Black Mask, GWS, Maxie Zeus, etc) as his a warped version of Harvey's past idealism regarding cleaning up the streets of Gotham; by taking over the criminal underworld, he can prevent Bruce from having to spend so much time dealing with random hoods when there's bigger fish to deal with like Joker, Croc or Mad Hatter running loose. Of course the reality is that he's just creating more death and destruction, hence why Batman always intervenes, but the intent comes from a good place, and shows Harvey still has good in him like Bruce and Gilda always preach.

Jeremiah Valeska The abusive childhood is a huge cliche to give a villain motivation, but it works for two face very well. Gotham could have done a great job exploring the trauma of Harvey's childhood.

I probably don't say this as often as I really should but Two-Face is one of my favorite Batman villains of all time. Hell, he might just be my second most preferred rogue right after the Scarecrow. I was wondering when you'd get around to making this video and it absolutely does not disappoint. I've got to say I think Two-Face for the most part has been portrayed excellently across all forms of media (Batman Forever excluded) On the question of what is my favorite version of the character, I'd have to go with the majority and say the TAS version, it just translated the character brilliantly in most every aspect and I really liked that he was the second most recurring rogue on that show right after the Joker. My second favorite is the version from the Telltale Games and I also really like Aaron Eckhart, William Shatner and the version from the Arkham Games in spite of his lack of screen time.

The actor who played Harvey Dent in the recent film was fantastic at his role. He single handily pulled of a challenge if I suggested to another individual it would cause me to be reprimanded for having a stupid idea. It is focusing on the Harvey Dent's side for a long time before he became Two Face and make a story focusing on Harvey before his fall to be the focus instead of him acting as the villain. The only time he changes is as a side arch and he only behaves like him for a short period at the end of the story. This actor pulled off the impossible. He made Harvey Dent interesting, charismatic, and likable that I and others enjoyed it every time he was on screen without him being Two Face. That actor and the writers should be proud of themselves. He was the definitive Harvey Dent actor best suited for the role and his portrayal. Not only did they succeeded in this assuming impossible task. They helped strengthen the tragedy of the character. Instead of just Batman and other characters who known of the fall sadden and hurt by this change the audience watching Harvey Dent feels the same emotions. They too like the other characters in the story want to see the character be redeemed and saved. They want the old Harvey back as well. When he has his final moments It turned the actor's portrayal and character, Harvey Dent, into a immortal martyr for us to have against the Joker. I hope others in the future to play the character take notes and learn from his tenure of the role.

This was worth the wait! Great job as always Rogues. It is a shame that Dent has dropped in terms of popularity, but with Joker overshadowing every other bat-rogue, it's not surprising. It is also a shame that Two-face won't appear in Gotham, making it the second time that Dent was snubbed out of the chance to appear in a live action tv show. Hopefully he will be the main villain in a future live action batman film. As for your future videos, I cannot wait for the complete history of Penguin and Sinestro, two of my favourite DC villains. I definitely think that the animated series Two-Face is the definitive depiction of the character. I remember watching the episode where Two-Face made his debut as a kid. That whole dream sequence that Harvey is having in the beginning definitely sent shivers up my spine. Although personally, I thought his depiction in the Dark Knight Returns and the Telltale Games series were pretty good. I definitely thought the love triangle between Harvey, Bruce, and Selena was an interesting new twist. I even like his depiction in the Arkham series video games. I did also enjoy his more comedic portrayals, though not as much as his more serious one.

Two-Face never appeared on the Batman '66 show due to the creators feeling that he would be too grotesque and scary for the kids watching. It's the same reason the villain False Face had only 1 run on the show as False Face actor Malachi Throne (who coincidentally voiced Two-Face's 3rd persona, The Judge, in the series finale episode of Batman The Animated series/The New Batman Adventures) confirmed that they also felt the mask was a little too scary for the kids so they never bought him back. Sucks because the 2 False Face episodes were some of my absolute favorite ones on the show. Great video once again my friend.

So far you covered villains who appeared early, but only became relevant after a return to comics after a prolonged absence after just a few stories. Mr. Freeze and Mad Hatter also fall into this and like Riddler had other media to thank for further use after the dust off. How do you feel about your last 3 videoes? Creatively free and fun and not limited? The main thing is that you enjoy making the videos.

The discussion of Batman's #2 rogue is always interesting. If we're going by icon-status and popularity over level of enemy, it's obviously Catwoman. Right now if I had to consider someone as Batman's #2 rogue, I would say Bane. However, I consider Bane to share the title of Batman's #1 rogue with the Joker. Bane is also #1 rogue, but on the flip side of the rogues coin.

I think the Two Face character did receive some attention boast to his character during the 2000s from those Nolan films. The problem was... he was competing with the Joker by another actor giving his own unique take of the character we never seen before, with the developers putting more time and effort on him to make him entertaining in the plot. To top it all off Harvey was never given as much fantastical exciting action and the cunning scheming behavior like the Joker in the film. When Harvey changed he didn't really do anything as sensational like him. All he did was go out and kill people he believed to have wronged him. There wasn't as much fantastical sensational witty or exciting stuff to happen. He just went out and hunted them down one by one. It was very simple. This naturally this does not foster a growing interest in the character by people. This especially when the actor playing the Joker was providing them with more sensational action and witty sadistic banter captivating us. It's only natural for the Joker to over shadow Harvey Dent and Two face in this situation. Basically, the Nolan films spent most of their time building up Harvey Dent as, "The White Knight of Gotham," more than they spent periods constructing Two Face - "The Gotham's underworld's Triumph." (He is the product of Gotham's corruption finally corrupting its most pure heart champions to become the underworld's white knight for them and Gotham punishment for having so much corruption.)

And when it came to the animated movie based on the 60s TV show, Batman vs Two-Face, there were a couple moments from the movie that were shocking to me. Anyway, I don't know what 'they' were thinking of when it came to the casting of Billy Dee Williams for the role of Harvey Dent in the first Batman movie. I also say that Tommy Lee Jones did an OK job playing Harvey Dent/Two-Face in Batman Forever, even though I did see a few problems with the characterization. But if it were up to me; if there was a time-machine to fix past movie problems, I would have cast Dennis Quaid for the role of Harvey Dent/Two-Face in the Batman films from the 90s should they have been made better with Michael Keaton still as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Tim Burton as an executive producer (not as the director), & Dennis O'Neil as a consultant. I would also have to say that I was among those disappointed that the show Beware the Batman was cancelled before we got a chance to see the 'traditional' Batman villains making their way into the show, such as Two-Face. I also say that Two-Face is among Batman's top-ten villains.

Although he may be my second or third favorite Batman villain, like you I really love his character. However, I always felt like his character was misused. For me, mostly it was his backstory that got him down a space or two on my list. I always felt like there should be no history of abuse and he grew almost more sheltered. While I really liked the route that they went with him in Dark Knight, I felt like they could have gone even deeper than just a revenge storyline with him, and if they had him around for Dark Knight Rises, they could have built it up more. Besides Joker (who at his core is a psychopathic nihilist), he's one of the few others where a hyper-realistic version can work for his personality. To me, the duality should not be the main focus of Harvey, but the reason why he has it. This should not just be because of hidden mental illness, or snapping when his face gets scarred, but the fact that at heart he is trying to be a good person, but can't understand why he would have evil impulses if he is the "good-guy." Good people aren't supposed to have those, so the more he does bad and likes it, the more disassociated he becomes from reality, so the more he feels like he must be the villain. Yet at the same time, he still wants to be a good guy which is why his personality splits in the first place, trying to contain it. He does not seek help like he should, because he's the "good-guy," the "hero," "one of the strong and strong -willed" and those people are supposed to be powerful enough to conquer their demons. I guess it would be comparable to soldiers who come home from war with PTSD and then get depressed and have a hard time moving on with life, because they can't understand why if others don't seem to have problems, the only reason they do is because they are weaker in some way. Just a thought (a very long one). I haven't read enough Two-Face comics to know if there was ever a writer out there who came at him more from this angle, unfortunately.

I think that take on two-face can still be done with the abuse backstory. He wanted to do good as an adult despite the trauma he faced. No matter what, Harvey should always want to do good. Honestly in my opinion, Two-face should always want to do good as well. I think he just has a very distorted view on what "good" is

Pretty good video, I love two face as a character more than joker, he might be my favorite batman villain. I've liked all incarnations of his even the batman forever movie, yes it was over the top and not really two face, but that was the one that introduced me to a villain who really didn't care if the person lives or dies and leaves it up to a simple coin toss, a 50/50 chance to live or die.

It's weird they chose the actor for Harvey to be black. I wonder could have happen if they followed through with bringing the character out. Would the actor and movie be so good it would have cause a reinventing of the character like Nick Fury, or would it just been a one shot. We will never know.

Weird how even in the early days his costume NEVER remains the same. Half of his face is always green but the costume It changes every issue. The second half of his suit is checkered (even then not all the time) but the color of it varies from brown, orange, purple and green or pink. Same with the left side.

Yes the penguin my all time favourite villain. And I am with you on your opinion Mr. Rogues. Two Face is a great villain who still feels dethroned by other villains. The live action films and Gotham( love that show by the way ) fails to give us the definitive two face movie. The cartoons on the other hand are a great job with Two Face better than live action. In my opinion there should be a movie featuring the Duke of Duality blended with the original trilogy comic books of the 1940s, eye of the beholder and the BTAS episode trial where he not only puts his enemies who wronged him on a mock trial but also his abusive father. And Batman must stop his old friend from crossing the line before it's too late. Here's the title The Dark Knight: Dealing With Duality or The Strange Case of Two Face. Great video. Love it.

You know what? I am really starting to think that a good idea for DC rogues cinematic treatment would be a movie about their origin stories, with the story told from their prospective, with some good guys apparence here and there. Like a "Cinematic Mr. Rogues". What did make "Batman The Dark Knight" arguebly the best DC movie?? The villian stole the show!! It was a Joker movie featuring Batman as the antagonist. AND IT WAS GREAT!! Not cos Batman was great but cos Joker had all the time to show why he is Such a Great Rogue!! (It starts with Joker and his display of attitude and it becomes a crescendo of madness). And he didn't die at the end of the day. It was the origin of Joker as a Batman rogue. It wasn't just the performance of the actors that made it great. Marvel does likable hero movies with expendable villains, right?? DC could do the opposite of that: Finding its fortune in its villains; even if I personally will always have Victor Von Doom as my favourite, I must admit that DC has many more interesting villains to display.

i was at a con and Billy Dee Williams spoke about his role as Dent. He was Adamant that he took the role to be Two-Face, not just DA Dent. He went on to describe that racial politics lead to Tommy Lee taking the role, and that he was paid a substantial sum (by normal human standards) as part of a broken contract for him to play Two-Face. Stickers of a Billy Dee Williams Two face were there... I did not get any Cuz I am cheep.
