Dividends are what got me into investing in the stock market. The thing to me is, if you invest and have other income outside of dividends then you will be able to live off dividends without selling. Which means you can pass that on to your kids which will give them a leg up in life. Have over $600K in my portfolio as I bought a lot of dividend stocks before, I'm buying more now, and I will buy more when it drops further.

For people still thinking years out for retirement, growth dividend stocks then to be preferable over high dividend yielding stocks. For example, SBUX dividend may only be around 2.5%, but it increases consistently and with that, the share price. Example, you buy $100 of a stock that pays 2.5% dividend, giving you $2.50, but that dividend continues to go up along with company share value. Later that same share could be selling for $200 but still giving out a 2.5% yield which at that point would be $5 which is double the initial values when you invested, so not only do you get higher dividends over time, but your $100 investment went up as well. Win-Win.
@wewhoareabouttodiesaluteyo93032 жыл бұрын

You got it wrong. If the stock price goes up it doesn't make your dividend go up as well. If SBUX has a div yield of 2,5% at 100: $2.5 and the stock appreciates to 200 the dividend stays the same at $2.5 or 1,25% of 200. The dividend is an amount of money that management sets aside each year from the cash flow. This cash flow is not affected by swings in share price. If a stock did appreciate 100%, however, that would probably mean that business is fantastic and so management could feasibly raise it, but it's not connected to share price in that way. Hope I made it clear.

NOBL is a dividend aristocrat ETF. Something to consider if there is a big dip. I've started to look at that and SCHD as dividend growth stocks. Just looking at the dividend growth rate if you can find stocks with a 9% dividend growth rate they will double in 7 years. So instead of looking to need 3 million just think of it as a time investment. So if you had 1.5 million which is a doing amount you would need to wait 7 years after that point to live off of dividends. $750,000 when waiting 15 years. And finally something realistic $375,000 but waiting 21 years. $375,000 is reasonable, that's obtainable in your 30s allowing a retirement in 50s. It cuts a decade off and of course we're just talking dividends here so you can sell stock and retire even earlier. That's still too slow for me personally. I've gotten into trading asymmetrical financial assets.

The index calls have far lower premiums than a collection of selected shares offer. 2) leveraged bond income funds (like PDI) can offer 7% or more. (12% during a market crisis). The price of these do fluctuate, and there is little capital gain, but a long term dividend investor is only interested in the steady income, not the market price. what are examples of non-index covered call funds?
@miken45912 жыл бұрын
@@georgezambrano5166 There are a lot. Some are closed end funds. Care is needed as they are active funds so the stock picking skill of managers is impt, and fees can be higher. An example is STK. Over the last 5 yrs QYLD has fallen 23% and STK has risen 30%. STK is yielding 10.9% and QYLD is 11.8%. Worth including in your portfolio mix. I'm not recommending STK as such.

Don't dump it on any of the YLD's or NUSI ..use JEPI DGRO or DIVO they accumulate growth and pay dividends. This is great but you don't necessarily need a lot of cash on hand during a correction. You can also dollar-cost average into your positions over time, especially in a bear market.

If you have your home mortgage paid, even Social Security goes a lot further. At 65 divide your capital by 25 (assuming you will live to 90). Pay yourself 1/25th of your capital each year plus interest income in addition to Social security. Pay no mortgage or rent. At age 90 your house will have 25 yrs. of appreciation. Sell it and live to 100 or longer. You could also do this well before age 90. The important thing is to own your home outright by age 65. If you want to double that lifestyle move to Mexico or Ecuador, or the Phillipines where the cost of living is half. I have all the dividend etfs mentioned in this video, plus junk bond etfs that yield about 5%. But I also own 2x and 3x short etfs on the major indices as a hedge. There are some beautiful places on this planet where the U.S. dollar buys a great lifestyle.

9:06 Rental properties don't require any more work than stock picking if you buy into syndications. The ones I buy into typically have pretty conservative mortgages, e.g., 65-70% mortgage (vs. 30-35% equity), and they consistently raise rents, generate paper losses that reduce taxes, and do cash-out refinancings as the properties appreciate. It's pretty darn passive.

Question: I just learned how to put STOPS on my positions (in case the market crashes during off-business hours). Is there some kind of formula or percentage to this or does everyone do it differently? ... I feel like I want to put the stop pretty low so that it won't automatically sell during volitility but before a bankrupsy. I was thinking 50% of purchase price. Anyone?
@newhampshirelifestyle4233 Жыл бұрын
You can set a STOP trigger that represents the % loss you are willing to tolerate in your portfolio. For most investors/traders, that is about 2-5% of your entire portfolio. Eventually, myself and other investors stop using STOP orders because you do get stopped out due to volatility that is typical of beginner investors. A better strategy is to us protective PUT options to protect your investment from the downside. This had risks also, but if you pay attention to the stock price and place your PUT option correctly, you can make $$ during sell-offs and keep your stock/investment.

I'm selling call options against my dividend portfolio. That's fine, I'm happy. But I did notice that OTM call options on QYLD and RYLD are virtually worthless. Apparently nobody believes prices for these stocks has any upwardness. Why is that? What does that signify for the current price?

Does qyld grow its dividend every year. If no how do you account for inflation?
@jasonw19652 жыл бұрын
Inflation raises prices, hence it should raise stock prices too. Covered call premuims should increase on higher stock prices. Thus, the premiums QYLD uses to pay the monthly distributions should rise as a result too. I think.

13% is maybe enough if you’re already retired and spending down your nest egg. For the rest of us, inflation is north of 15%. Hint: Just look at import price inflation(15.1%yoy) instead of the CPI. If you’re trying to get to “early retirement”, you need 20%+ returns for may years together with a frugal lifestyle. Not impossible, but much harder than this video implies.

It took a month of research for me to generate about a 22-25% yield on a portfolio less than 200k generating just a little over 35k a year in dividends/distributions/coupon payments. You have to know when to buy and sell these high yield funds as they are not really forever holds but theyre worth the income if you get in at the right price. However, some longterm investors just let the dividends accumulate over years so that all risk is eventually taken out of the trade( investing 50k in a fund that generates 100k in income over a 5 to 10 yr period literally makes the asset eventually free)
