Fowey was my childhood home. I spent a lot of my life sailing in St Austell bay and coastal cruising between Plymouth and Falmouth.

Those two forts at the entrance to The Fowey River were anchor point for a massive chain that was stretched across the harbour entrance to stop 'unwanted guests' from paying a visit. The little beach to your Port as you enter is called Ready Money Cove, it gets its name from the fact that when the wreckers (locals that deliberately guided ships onto the rocks so that they would wreck and their cargos could be 'liberated') crashed ships onto the rocks, all the cargo would end up being washed ashore into Ready Money Cove, hence 'Ready Money'. If you go ashore across from the town of Fowey, you can walk to the top of the cliffs at Polruan and if you're brave enough (or perhaps young enough and stupid enough) you can sit on a ledge beneath the Coast Guard lookout station a few 100 feet above the water on a sunny afternoon and read a book - only if you're stupid enough to though. And to those that suggest sailing to the Med for the sun, guess what, every Capt Tom, 1st Mate Dick and Deckhand Harry has the same idea. Sailing or any form of boating in the Med is like a floating package holiday in Torremolinos in August. Thousands of boats all moored stern to inches apart herded together like cattle. Little better than an charter flight with 2 inches of legroom, followed by a three hour bus ride delivering everyone to their hotels. Most of whom will spend the entire holiday in an English pub every night, followed by days flopped on a sunbed elbow to elbow with someone from Leeds. I still don't understand why you would fly to a different country and spend your entire time looking for everything English. The return trip will be so stressful you will need another two weeks holiday to recover from it, , departing your hotel at 2.30 am to catch the cattle flight home crammed onto a plane with drunks, sombreros and wooden donkeys. No thanks, Uk in good weather is fantastic, we have some amazing coastlines, harbours and inlets, far fewer crowds and if you really want the sun, try cruising the French canals. Just my opinion.

The chain would have been stretched between Polruan castle and the castle near Whitehouse on the Fowey side. St Catherine’s Castle and the ope opposite were built high up protecting the harbour mouth.

Chris- you might want to use Wireless Headphones with Mics like Sailing Cadoha use.., they're also a British Sailing KZbin Channel! Saves yelling at your First Mate- Lauren, and saves the marriage- too! Can you share a link for Chris's Wet Weather Gear?

Thanks so much for watching!! It’s funny you say that, because we’ve actually just ordered a pair of those headphones this week😂 They look great and seem perfect for when anchoring or if the other is down below etc. The thermal suit is from Trego Mills but we can’t find a link, so here’s the same suit on Amazon. Very impressed by the quality and its soooo warm! www.amazon.co.uk/Imax-Thermo-Suit-Black-X-Large/dp/B009SNBUV8/ref=asc_df_B009SNBUV8/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=311188120549&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15643430009489753129&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=m&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9044937&hvtargid=pla-564679134130&psc=1

The whole headphone thing is probably quite useful in tough weathers, but they're really annoying to watch...A bit too call centre for my tastes.

While I absolutely admire what it takes to sail in colder climates, I wonder how much you would save on foul weather gear, beanie hats, gloves if you were in the Mediterranean or Caribbean. Enjoy watch you navigate the cold, misty yet beautiful Coast but again compare to the dozens of KZbins sailing around in swim trunks and bikinis jumping into crystal clear and warm water. Maybe you do have something with where you are. Regardless I’m sure it makes you better sailors.

Thanks for watching John!! You’re not wrong… We think it’s about time we headed to warmer climates too😂 But we’ve made some huge progress recently and hoping that in a few videos’ time, all will be revealed!🤓🗺️

@@SailingIndiana you never have to thank me for watching. I thank both of you. I’m sure doing the KZbin stuff, working jobs and dealing with a boat and the weather is not easy. I like what your doing. Keep at it. Enjoy the journey.

They live in UK so....They already own foul weather gear.... also, equator sailors are generally not as prudent... I live on and sail my boat in Alaska....bad decision making will kill you in these waters. Anyone who sails up here is good at it. You have to be 100% self sufficient. Nobody can get to you if you are in trouble. Sailors/mariners can get away with things around the equator so....The majority of em' don't advance their knowledge, tactics, and preparations beyond the basics because they don't have to for the most part. I am sailing the higher latitudes to Harden up. Then Tahiti, of course.. Nice boat!

Just a normal brisk day in England. There is a reason why its so green ;-) oh and water is delivered to yachts for free.
