Leila Kartforosh, 28, lives in Decatur, Georgia and earns $81,000 a year from her day job and her side hustles: $60,000 plus a 10% bonus as a Salesforce consultant, and about $15,000 from her KZbin channels. She racked up $82,000 in debt from student loans, credit cards and other purchases. Since then, she tightened her budget and has paid off $60,100 as of February 2022. I make 118k a year (yes for real). Single no kids. I spend my money on meal prep company each week (don't cook), I invest in stocks and crypto, and live very minimal. I still drive my 2016 Honda and live well below my means. Every so often I'll splurge on a trip or something, but people that make half as much as me spend more than I do lol. This is probably one of my favorite episodes of MM because it is so realistic. She has a relatable job with a normal salary, and her bills are so much on point compared to some of the other episodes. I’ve actually stopped watching a lot of them because they try to tell me the person puts 3k a month away in savings, only has $250 in credit card spend and spends $300 a month on food which includes groceries and going out. Oh and they either don’t have any student debt or they only graduated with 5k. This person is someone I would actually want to get financial advice from.

I don't want to say she has not had her own struggles and I'm glad she has overcome many of them. Every one has difficulties they work through. Maybe it's the title, and the marketing for this video, but this seems very normal. This is a fair bit of money to live off of and I know many people that do so. I lived on much less for about a decade. Maybe it's the audience it is targeted to though, as if it's suppose to be shocking. It does seem like there may be some kind of confusion with the actual money this person makes and the video's reporting on it. Once again congrats to her, but this seems very reasonable.

Doesn’t make too much sense to me moneywise since the interest you pay on debt is higher than the surplus from investment. But it’s indeed a mental thing to get used to saving a bit up. Realistically it’s more useful to pay off debt and get an emergency fund before investing in anything

P.S Decatur is basically Atlanta, it’s the next city over. It’s like saying Manhattan is not New York City

Gen X here (47) The main problem I see is this. A lot of millennials don’t concentrate on paying off their college loans. They live like they have a house in the burbs and have baller jobs. They get married or have kids without paying off their college loans. Complain all you want about house prices and jobs. I graduated trade school and my wife college. Took 5 years of dating we worked 6 days a week and paid off our loans. Then we lived at home for 2 while we saved up for a down payment for a house. Millennials waste so much money on eating out and healthy foods. I get it. But you should not waste money on these things till you make good money. Once my wife and I had our house and good savings. Then we had kids by mid 30s. I can go on vacations x2 a year and eat healthy and buy what I want. Stop wasting money on the gym and eating out and organic foods. Most Gen X were not going on girls trips to NYC in their 20s or a guys LA getaway. A lot of Gen Y do this also.

Don’t pursue a degree right out of high school if you’re not sure what you want to do. Every job I have been at, gives at least 2500$ toward school a semester so why not enter the working field first? That’s awesome making 81k in Georgia congrats doing something right!

I watch her transfer Tuesday videos and part of her savings is for her tax bill from her youtube income. I assume they're calculating these numbers based on how much she has left from her 60k salary. 60k minus 6% or about $3600 (401k contribution), minus health insurance (probably 2k), minus the standard deduction of 12k - all 3 not taxable - then her taxable income is about 40k or an effective tax rate of 12%, she will only be deducted less than 5k in taxes. However she will owe the irs almost 4k at the end of the year from her side gig income (part of her monthly $700 savings). Also she may have other deductions, bringing down her tax bill from her side gig earnings. I like the smart assets calculator. It's pretty accurate on how much you owe the irs.

She's underpaid for being a Salesforce consultant, companies pay a lot more for that position typically.

Yeah, she should be closer to six figures for sure, especially when she gets some more experience. Idk, its possible. Most companies have a cost of living salary adjustment, but they're like 10% swings in either direction from what I've seen.

I literally don't understand the American perspective. We here in Europe, call someone who makes around 3000-4000$ net a good earner and it takes years to reach that salary. And here a young woman, earning almost 7k! I know most things here are free, but still, a lot of money you guys make! Maybe I should just move to America☺️

I'm very grateful for my income but in my opinion it's not enough to live comfortably for what I would like in life. Cost of living has increased significantly and it will take me years to buy a home. I'm still paying down debt, medical expenses cost me a lot, food, etc

Is this pre-tax income because these numbers don't add up? I'm pretty sure in GA if you make $81K your take home should be around $58k-$60K and her budget is $6391 a month or $76,692 a year.
