➤ ABOUT US: Hi! We’re Nick & Raychel, the couple behind the blog Not Luxe - where we write travel guides & help people open their eyes to alternative living, whether that be teaching English online, moving to Cambodia, taking advantage of working holiday visas (like in Australia) or building a DIY stealthy camper van to live & work on the road. Right now, we’re living the van life and travelling throughout Canada and the USA.
Our goal here is to bring you weekly content where we hope to inspire you to break free & live the life you desire. On this channel, we talk everything from finances to minimalism to working online to mindset and post a weekly vlog of our daily lives. We hope you join us on our journey to see the world, save money, live minimally, and most importantly, have fun.
So if you're looking for a channel about van life and budget travel, you're in the right place.
Love,
That couple that lives in an ambulance

You think that’s stress-free? You have to find a safe LEGAL place to park EVERY NIGHT. You only have one asset and it’s depreciating FAST. Once something expensive goes on that beat-up engine, they’ll be *absolutely* homeless and they’re not generating a penny of capital for their future. Gonna be renting a super-crappy place in a few years. Guaranteed. She’s clearly no personal finance expert. The only difference between this and living in a tent by the freeway is that she’s ON the pavement.

I built a tiny home on wheels in 2021 and have been 90,000 miles through the US, 48 states and 51 national parks. It really is the best way to travel. I’ve probably saved almost $100,000 in hotels. You figure 700 days of travel in 3 years and never having to pay for a hotel or Airbnb yet being able to go to so many more places than if you were flying to airports and being restricted on rental cars. I did 20 years of international travel to 89 countries then when the pandemic started, I car camped for a year then built the van. Whether you’re full time or weekend warrior, it really is the best life ever!

@TravelJennie how did you travel to so many countries in those 20 years? I want to travel so bad but have no degree and barely getting paid enough at my job… I have, however, bought a cheap conversion van in November with only 50,000 miles on it. I love it but I have to save my money back up or find an online job before I set out traveling in it… that’s the tough part, finding out where the money is gonna come from

I have also worked in digital media since 2006 building websites, doing analytics, advertising, branding, etc, so that also supplemented my travel

You do need a more expensive car insurance policy, and these things do use up more gas than something smaller. But it definitely can work out in your favor financially if you do it well.

@@priestesslucy3299why would you need a more expensive policy?
@priestesslucy3299
@priestesslucy3299 Ай бұрын
@@StarshiplaidX Because ordinary car insurance doesn't insure your belongings, and if the van is weighted down with a build the insurance company doesn't know about that could be cause to void or reduce the payout on your claim. Your insurance needs to know about anything more than the most minimalist non-build setups, and that will almost definitely increase your premiums.

In Australia, they are FREE camping areas, showgrounds and if you want caravan parks, rate for power and unpowered sites but some caravan parks especially in the city accepted a permanent resident due to homeless situation...so last trip we had, we opted to go home as the city where we will go as no available sites due to permanent residents in caravan park. Queensland has housing problem so hotels and caravan parks were used as they have amenities too. I can relate to her as our caravan is our tiny home in travelling in various states in Australia while we can at our elderly stage.

Been living this life in something bigger for 3 years, its worked out so well I will never live in a regular house again. If you don't have much money then buy the best truck you can and move in with camping gear. The money your no longer wasting on rent can go into gradually making it a comfy home that you own. Or you can remain a rent slave for life.....
