I'm very pleased to see that Lady Zee is there with you. I had a 26 wooden fishing boat with a Ford 4D in her on rubber mounts and had the same problem, also it used to knock out the packing on the stern gland even though it was running a flexible coupling and everything was inline. I swapped to a solid mounted set up and the difference was amazing smooth running quieter and the only vibration I got at the harmonic revs around 700 to 800 was the teaspoon rattled slightly in my coffee cup. I now have a larger GRP hulled boat and that is also solid mounted with no problems at all.

I'm soooooo envious! As for bringing plywood to your boat, there's a public parking lot on the other side of the sea plane terminal. I was able to carry my dismantled sailing kayak/trimaran from the Causeway Marina up to my truck, which was parked up there. You might be able to park there to carry wood to your boat. You'd have to gauge how often you can do that without drawing attention.

I have found that to stop a lot of the vibration you can find an OLD TIRE. All you want is the side wall of the tire.. Cut pads that will fit between the motor mounts and your boat. When you clamp them down you will be surprised at just how much your problem is gone..

I have a Kubota lawn/utility tractor with the same engine you have, and the engine is mounted on large, soft rubber mounts. Additionally, the drive-shaft has a rubber flex joint that dampens and isolates the power output. As a result, the tractor feels very smooth at all speeds. Perhaps you might follow Kubota's example and try some of their techniques. Love your programme!

You can rent parking from the city for $160.00 a month, right beside you, 2 min walk. Its just beside the princess whales whale watching storefront on the causway. Includes the entire parking lot in front of the seaplane port. You go up to city hall where you pay parking tickets. They will give you a pass till the end of March.

I actually preferred the old mooring because it was quiet and tucked away, it also allowed you to do a lot of work on the boat without having to move although I do realise that technically you weren't supposed to. For those of us that live in seaside cities Victoria doesn't have a lot to offer, in fact it's a fairly modern city by European standards but then again it's built to more modern standards which isn't a bad thing when it comes to getting around etc. Hope you enjoy your stay there !

90% of sound escapes through a 10% hole... Best conversion is three point mounting.....so you keep the front feet, delete the rear feet and add a 3rd mount under the gearbox on the shaft line...(similar to a cotton real type bush (a bit like a landrover series top shock mount)sooo smooth.....my Perkins runs this set up and its awesome. But to run this set up you do need a thrust bearing on the propshaft so the engine mounts do not take the prop thrust.

On submarines we are very concerned about keeping the noise to a minimum therefore nothing is directly attached to the pressure hull. Vibrations are kept to a minimum with compliant mounts for all rotating machinery. Consider compliant engine mounts Peter.

Hi Peter. Regarding things like handling the plywood... There are suppliers or workshops (in the UK.. just thought.. shipping it would be beyond silly 🐱 ..) that will cut it to size for you.. and do shapes etc.. and thus transportation becomes easy... almost flat pack.. Your stern deck or fly bridge would be ok for making sawdust.. There's also the fact of powering something like your table saw etc.. which I assume is at least 1500 Watts induction.. so to start it you will need a generator of maybe 4500 Watts (you can get away with lower if you can spin it up first).. did you get a PTO on your engine for a generator? .. otherwise it's a big.. not very portable generator! I suppose a very big inverter is possible but square wave will possibly be an issue .. and batteries and alternators.. (I have 3 alternators).. Note staple guns don't work on 240v generators.. well not 300w on a 4kw.. ... and forget anything related to arc welding or a compressor.. though you could charge the compressor at the dock.. Welcome to off grid living.. I've lived without land mains for over 33 years.. and my mains tools are 750w (brushed) or lower and I have a 1kw 4 stroke (15yr old) and a smaller 2 stroke generator (there's a whole muddle of power factors to be aware of)... I have a few budget battery power tools.. and one day... Regarding engine vibration.. I installed my engine with 3 point rubber mounts.. which works.. exactly how it's done in a vehicle using the same rubber mounts for my 70hp 2.4 litre.. my boat is semi displacement.. and originally had a 100hp 3 litre petrol.. bow starts to lift at about 5 knots.. not officially sure of top speed 🐱.. Regards Bella and Mark.. Motor Yacht Sea Prince.

There’s a balancing ring used primarily on large trucks. A fellow KZbinr “Jay paydirt”installed one on his caterpillar engine on his big truck. The company will make these balancers for any motor, wheel or any type of machinery that needs to be balanced. They run them on Harley Davidson‘s and large industrial diesel motors and it takes the harmonics out. Jay paydirt was completely impressed with how smooth his engine ran with that balancer on the end of the crank. They’re very small very thin and a bolt right on the front of the crankshaft. The company will custom make them. Not sure of the cost, 3 to 400 American??? Happy to see lady Zephyrus on board. I was worried that your tides had started to run in different directions.lol. 👍

I am so thrilled for you! Let me tell you MY memories of that place: When I was a young-ish teenager, my family took a voyage on the very FIRST EVER "Princess" cruise ship--the Princess Italia--much smaller and cozier than these mega-mall-parkinglot-sized things they have now--and we actually tied up TO THE DOCK in front of the Legislature back then! Did the whole shebang--High Tea at the Empress (and hey, add to your expenses having to--no knock on your look now intended--upscale your wardrobe for the tonier downtown spots like that one especially! PLUS a bigger dining/drinking budget, but hey, that's mostly a GOOD thing! ) Butchart Gardens, etc. etc. etc. ANYHOW, I think the idea of renting a shop is a good idea--AND...if it comes with a parking place and isn't too far from the dock, it will reduce your parking expense in the bargain AND give you some semi-permanent included storage space too. I'm guessing you will time the next haulout to begin at the moment you have to leave there for tourist season, so that'll be good, too. All in all GREAT news! Congrats again! (OH, a last thought re harmonics and such? I wonder if all that grotty concrete you removed from the keel is part of the problem--the absence of it, I mean. Couldn't you use something neater and more portable in the way of weight--leads, sandbags, whatever--so that you could (a) see if that helps and (b) balance them by moving them around easily in the bilge to see what works best? NO idea if this would work but it came to mind as you were describing the problem.)
