Good teaching. Sorrow shouldn't be morose and gloomy, and joy shouldn't be superficial. And we need to be able to empathise with those who are suffering and with those who are rejoicing about something.

Yes, in order for this to work we must first have a balance of the fear and love of the Lord, you nail this and it will trickle down to all parts of your life. Today we focus so much on "God is love" and never mention the fear of the Lord. You need both to understand him more.

This idea of suffering and joy going together is found in quite a few biblical passages, including the following: Psalm 94:19; Hab 3:17-19; 2 Cor 6:10; 7:4; Col 1:24; 1 Thess 1:6; James 1:2-4; and 1 Pet 1:6.

I have been a disciple of Christ for 35 years. I have great joy in Christ. I do not have sorrow. I have pain. Chronic pain. To me pain is suffering. Sorrow has nothing to do with suffering. This message is incongruent to me.

Until you experience the Joy of Salvation you can not stand joyful in the midst of suffering. If one person experienced Joy of Salvation he knows that suffering is allowed in to his life by SOVEREIGN LORD "to make him...not to break him" Praise the LORD my soul...in every situation

Keeping faith is already difficult in suffering. Endure til the end Even if there is no Joy. Trust me, you thinking that you have always Joy in the walk, just wait until you sit in prison and cant meet your brethren

@@christianmatteussen9876 I do agree with you brother, it's not only difficult to keep our faith in difficult times, it's humanly impossible. I don't mean that "joy of Salvation" is a state that we don't feel pain or despair. But the Joy of Salvation makes us endure that situations. It's not we endure the difficult times. HIS GRACE which produced Faith (to be saved) in us will make us overcomers of that difficult times....praise the LORD

so people should not share their sorrows and suffering so they do not bring down the party or others? How is that Biblical? I like Piper usually but I do not get it here. Balance is key but is there any room for a real show of suffering in the church? How can the authenticity of sadness and sorrow show when you are happy and not bringing down the party with others? There is a joy in suffering but not one that is happy so as to not bring down others.

pray for wisdom. what he means is that dont go to the party and then nag/complain about the situation u r in. seeking help and sharing has a great difference. u dont share sorrow. u share happiness.

@@HighOh Yes, I think that is what he meant. I do not think he said that and is not what many who are in the middle of hurting will hear. I think many will hear that they should hide it in themselves and not bring down others. that is a way to kill yourself and not Christian. Again I think he meant something different but he made such a point to say again and again that one should not bring down the party.

It is not 'enjoy suffering', Velkyn. It is the grace of the Lord Jesus in/during suffering, with an eye to the eternal life with Him in joy, as is promised to those who believe. If you think your comment was cute, respectfully, I think you are dead wrong. In case you decide to ask the Lord what the preacher was drawing out from the words of the inspired apostle, I'll ask that God show you, as I also ask Him for me. May God bless you Velkyn.

IT is the lovely hypocrisy of so many Christian to claim how great suffering is so they can excuse their god's impotence and their own inaction. Hmm, I chatted with the lord and he said you were wrong. Now do show I didn't actually hear this from your god. You see, Tim, any idiot can claim that this god spoke to them and have no evidence at all for it. You'll of course insist it couldnt' have been this god since it doesn't agree with *you*. I already have all I need, Tim. How about your god heal amputees and burn victims instead? Of course it never seems able to do something about visible things. It's just like it doesn't exist.

Your total misunderstanding and lack of any coherent grasp in biblical matters is in keeping with the comment of yours that I responded to. However, being that your attitude is not very dissimilar to the one I held for many years, I certainly don't feel at liberty, in good conscience, to reply in kind. I would only say, if you think you have successfully deleted the necessity of God from the equation regarding the origin of matter and personal existence, I'm relatively confident the conversation could be interesting. @@timothyflaherty5150 yep, and poor Tim won't believe me if I claim to chat with some god, but golly, he'll believe it if what this god said agrees with him :D Each theist claims that no one but them "really" understands the bible. Alas, this god never shows which one of you has the right answers. You can't even do the things that this god promises a baptized believer in Christ as savior can do, so gee, you all are frauds. No god or tim needed for anything.
