Most single people have other priorities in life, and relationships aren't on top and so it's pushed aside, why be in a relationship if you know you won't give it all

Yea I find that a little hard to believe. I mean most people I meet seem to be pining for a relationship, or moving between people like crazy. I'm a pretty odd guy in most aspects, but I find being alone SO much nicer. More freeing, more quiet, I can do absolutely whatever I want... On and on. Once in a long while I meet someone that's pretty cool, but it's usually a short 'n sweet sort of thing, and we part ways. I like it like this, really. Honestly, i'd rather have an animal as a companion and just have a fling once in a while.

blacksunapocalypse it's sociopathic to not want to find the right person. It means that you don't have the ability to care for anyone else and it doing so doesn't benefit you.
@blacksunapocalypse
@blacksunapocalypse 9 жыл бұрын
I disagree with that. I don't think everyone in this world wants to find the "right person." I hardly think it means someone is sociopathic. Perhaps that's one aspect of BEING sociopathic, but in an of itself, nope. But just for the sake of this conversation, I care a LOT about animals, and find their companionship very much filling that void, besides the obvious things. I find being alone to be lovely. I realize it's built into most of us to find that someone to continue the species, but I also think we're a little too pressured to from how society views "normal" people. Like I said, i'll take a fling once in a while, and truly appreciate that small point in time where i'm very close to someone, but in the end I truly like the solitary path... with a dog.

I've lived the single life for the past 5 years, it's been a tough road, but the pay-offs have been great. I used to be afraid to eat out at restaurants by myself. Now, I find solace in that. Driving alone, walking alone, taking care of your responsibilities alone. There's a huge accountability towards yourself and how that'll shape you. These are my years to truly understand myself. Time and time again, I find myself wanting to give what I have to someone. I do yearn for a relationship; a deep emotional connection, but you cannot force your love and care towards someone who doesn't reciprocate. So for now, I give my love and care towards my family and friends as I continue my connections with them. But I do not shut out the ideas now of meeting new people and sharing my experiences towards them. The thoughts and fear of "me against the world", is somewhat gone for me. Now, I enjoy the moment and connections I make with people, whether it's long term or temporary. I found this video powerful with a reminder to say the good things to those you care about. Life is too short to pass by another great human being out there.

As a single person, I shall answer these questions myself. Yes I'd rather be in a relationship - but not a confining one or suffocating one. A relaxed mutual happiness and stuff.. if that makes sense. I'm looking for someone who is nerdy, passionate not afraid to act silly, someone fun, real and true to themselves and others. And not that it really matters, but I love curl hair and brown eyes. But again this is nice but doesn't matter that much. Well I know plenty of people who are looking and have these qualities. I've become great friends with them. But incompatible sexual orientations tend to keep it that way. And yes I have someone who has all these qualities and more (even the hair and eyes thing) and we are close friends. I actually told her how I felt last weekend. She even said she might have said yes, but she's in a really bad emotional state so she's afraid that if she got into a relationship now she'd end up becoming dependent, and she's aware of a bad relationship I had in the past with this issue, and doesn't want to ruin a possibly good relationship with this. I'm happy enough with the response. Who knows what the future holds :) Maybe because I'm gay is why I don't look at people the same way? I am a girl so I know our perspective, and straight guys talk to me about stuff they feel they can't with other straight ppl, because they're not trying to look tough or seem datable to me, so they can be themselves. I have great guy friends and girl friends (like not girlfriend... you get the idea) who all seem to be great people to be in relationships with, but again not compatible and I don't see them in that way. Which is why they are my friends. :) Sorry about opening up on KZbin. Felt like it might have been good to share these perspectives to people idk...

If you cannot first be happy/satisfied with yourself, alone, you cannot start a healthy relationship. Because when you break up, you feel nothing without them. So you can also feel happy being your own best friend. Or being one with God.

I have been in five relationships and all of them failed for some reason or other. I realized everything comes with an expiry date. So, why devote your love, time and energy into something that is going to end anyway and you are going to be heartbroken as a result? As much as it feels good to love someone romantically and be loved back, it's not worth the pain that comes after all of it ends and we would become strangers all over again just like the way we had started. So, It's better to live all by yourself, love yourself, help people and your community, get knowledge, meditate, love others unconditionally and just live your life. ♥♥♥

Honestly, telling someone how you feel about them before starting a relationship does barely work out ever. Most people are completely startled by this and think you're just needy or clingy. Like Phil Collins famously once sang: You can't hurry love.

***** Well, I wouldn't see it that negatively, even for an average looking guy it's possible to find a girl that is at least "in the same league", but most average looking guys lack the confidence to actually flirt with attractive women. My point is, almost every relationship starts with making out or a "first kiss" if you will. But not with confessing your feelings. That only works when you're both teenagers, but later in life it will do more harm than good to talk about feelings before you are even officially dating.
@haiggoh
@haiggoh 10 жыл бұрын
dreaminglittledreams yep, most girls are totally intimidated by guys confessing their feelings to them, even if they like them. Guys tend to get crushes on girls they barely know solely based on their appearance very easily while girls usually don't fall for a guy before they get to know him, at least this is what I have observed so far. This is why the "confess your feelings to her" thing rarely works out in real life.

This video was really great. I feel like it shows that so many people that are single might put walls or barriers that we may feel are stopping us from pursing someone we are interested in, but this video shows that the only true barrier is yourself. A really powerful message that was display to remind myself to take more risk with love.

Here's why I think being single is a good thing. I have heard too many stories about relationships crashing over time, people cheating, divorce, putting kids in bad situations, my money will be used on my needs and wants, and I can live however I want. There is a tradeoff of feeling lonely and not getting companionship, but it's worth it IMO

This video is pretty sad and here's why! Most of these people are in their mid to late 20's and yet the people they tried to connect with didn't take the hint that they were being subtly rejected without being rejected. it is often ambiguous which leaves people open to getting hurt if they pursue any further because they see it as an indication to put more energy into without looking at how the person treats you in the beginning. Fact is most friendships don't lead to relationships until the person they were pursuing has been in a number of relationships which in turn creates baggage that you now must repair when you both get involved. so that is why I say that its best to cut your loses than to keep chasing a person who isn't clear about how they feel about you. Another fact Most Relationships between two friends don't last because of the commonality factor, when you know each other too well you get bored of the relationship faster which opens the door to cheating. Most of society are thrill seekers, we look for the honeymoon phase and the passionate side of a relationship so when the passion is gone, more than likely your gonna breakup anyway. So no matter how many relationships you get into, the one you have with yourself is the most important relationship of all because we have wrapped our heads around this idea of "The One" that many single people want to get married 8 months into a relationship and yet when the person changes there heartbroken and depressed. I've been there and right now Im still trying to get over the one that left me but at the end I learned people are in your life to help guide you to the one that won't leave. Love is a fleeting emotion and we can't go searching for it when it is not our time, it finds us when the timing is right. if not at 27, then at 87.
@adamgottlieb5818
@adamgottlieb5818 8 жыл бұрын
Technically, none of that was rejection because all that happened was that people opened up about their feelings. Nobody had to reject anybody. nobody was asked out, nobody was proposed to, nobody was asked anything more than what they thought about that person. you don't know for sure that there won't be anything between those people. sometimes people need some time to think about it before they realize how to put their feelings into words. ya never know.

Are you the person your looking for, is looking for? Do what it takes to move past your past, work on your present, so that your past doesn't show up in your future. Love is more than chemistry, a song you share that only you two can hear, or physical intimacy. It's commitment, the depth of your character, integrity, responsibility, not keeping a record of wrongs, being patient, showing mercy and grace towards others you don't love, practicing forgiveness, practicing self-control, not envying another spouse's spouse, always striving to keep your relationship focused on what is what created to reflect, not believing in the "right person" myth, confronting your childhood or past broken relationships, and never letting all of your worth be place in man alone. -Andy Stanley

Bravo to all the participants for letting down their guard and being so honest! What's funny is every response we heard on the phone and even the instance of the gentleman talking with the girl from the lobby is the classic response we get in the single world. I too have put myself out there to someone I was interested in only to get the brush off and unfortunately the friendship became awkward then fizzled out. That's not to say you shouldn't be honest with someone you're interested in or take that leap of faith, but seriously if there are 44% of us (Americans only) still single and we all appear to want the same thing, as the video claims, then why aren't we connecting?

I've tried this. Honestly in my experience it is the best approach, skip the games and bullshit and tell them how you feel. If they're willing to gove it a chance, awesome! If not you can move on knowing that you were not afraid to put yourself out there. Think of all the people you have met in your life thus far, how many of them have you felt deeper feelings for? How do you know they never asked you out because they were scared to? You're going to keep meeting new people throughout your life until the day you die and as long as you are honest with yourself you will find the one you were meant to be with and they will find you. So cheer up, have confidence and live your life.

so did the asian lady pick chess, checkers, waterpolo, or did she just totally shut the black dude down?

I think he hasn't had luck with her otherwise they would have showned her response in the video. And then she phoned another guy, so... no chess, checkers or waterpolo I guess :)

I watched this video, and was surprised that NOBODY answered "single" ... when it was the first thing to come to my mind... I then realized that most of your candid/random filming is based out of Los Angeles, where the soulless feed on one another everyday just to earn a living. I'd be interested to see a "single" episode, where people find happiness in solitude, or at least in the search for true happiness. You might have to venture outside of L.A. for that. Regardless, I love soulpancake, and thoroughly enjoy the overall message. Peace. Pepe.

Why did nobody ask whether they would wake up in a good or bad relationship in the beginning? If they didn't give me any information on what the relationship would be like, I would have answered that I'd rather stay single. Then again, I'm not in the States, so I'm not relevant to this study/statistic.

That's a great point! Definitely something we all agree makes a big difference. In this case, we wanted to show a glimpse of the interesting juxtaposition between people wanting altruistic qualities in a relationship, but thinking others wanted something else. So yeah, in this case we're referring to a good relationship with those positive qualities. :)

Ouch. Every single one was shut down. Sometimes people need to trust their intuitions that if something is making them skeptical or too scared to say how they feel to a person, that might be a clue that things aren't going well with that person.

In my case, my wife and I had a mutual attraction from the beginning, or so she insists. We got along like a house on fire, too. From the very moment we met. I approached her first, asked her if I could buy her a drink, she accepted and the rest is history. We casually dated for about a year, before making it official. We got together aged 21 (both of us), we are now both 36, and only married last year. We dated for fifteen years, before tying the knot. It only felt 100% right last year. We had a son, 14 years into the relationship, too! It's seriously going stronger than ever. It's debatable to some; but I'm so besotted by my wife, and, (*Note: next bit is not for the faint hearted) I feel like she /is/ my "soulmate" and I do think (and hope to God) that she'll stay with me forever. :-)

I was pretty much single until I met my husband. I would go on dates and ruin one relationship after another by trying to be what I thought the guy wanted me to be, or by not being completely honest about who I am or by closing off to whoever I was interested in because I was too scared. It wasn't until I decided to always be 100% me, which included saying things like "hey, I have a lot of fun with you, I think you are a great guy and I like you as more than a friend" and then continuing to be myself. That is what happened with my husband. I took a huge chance and even flew to a different country to date him and now we are married and had our first baby last month. If being honest and yourself with someone you like doesn't work then it might hurt, but its not the end, eventually someone wills say "I think you are awesome too and I want to be more than friends". It's so worth it.

I could never do that just express all my feelings out to the person i like,especially on the phone like that because you can't see there face expressions,face expressions say everything, i would rather tell the person face to face alone(best way)......i never gotten rejected because i am too scared to handle rejection, never tried this, probably never will. Guys that liked me have told me they liked me, i was just so confused,waaaht me?so i ended up not going out with sum of my biggest crushes,because i couldn't tell them that i liked them too.I'm going to try to be more straight-forward and not so confusing and shy..... because instead of catching feelings i was hurting feelings and confusing alot of guys.

First off I think this video is great. I have been a big fan of all the wonderful videos that soulpancake puts out there. They are really eye opening. I have always tried to live a life of honesty and watching people understand that is incredible because I see that they are not only being honest with other people but also with themselves. It's really neat. So I guess keep up the awesome work. And also I think this host is crazy adorable.
