Good morning everyone.. how are we all doing this new year? .. ok so I have a few houseplants 😂 and it’s becoming a little bit of a obsession how do I get some control of this new love I have for plants 🪴 or is there no such thing as overly loving plants and the need to get a few new ones every week is completely normal ..

I honestly just got so stressed out and said to myself, if I can go without buying a plant for a month or 2 then clearly I don't NEED anymore, and if I feel like I can still handle more then I will buy some. But I doubt that's any help. I'm sorry 💚💚💚

IMHO if you have a few mother plants you can fill your house with cuttings of your favorites. I'm doing this with a few pothos in my house, philodendron dragon tail. I think most of the fun of having house plants is the journey of learning about nature and how it works. When we cross over into buying a ton of plants I feel it may lessen the enjoyment of owning and gaining a relationship with each of your plants. I talk to my plants as if they understand me and I do feel that they can feel the love.

@@andyandbee am sorry you feel that way. I hope things get better for you I find myself getting stressed when I don’t get new plants and it all started when I moved to Florida and got on KZbin and landed on mrs. Sheffield, KZbin channel i thought to myself a houseplant maybe nice for this new journey of my life and i haven’t been able to stop getting plants ever since i have started growing flowers in my yard bed and in my backyard smh 🤦🏻‍♀️ and with this being a new city and state for me I don’t know anyone so it keeps me motivated and my kids like it as well

Tip for moss poles, use a VERY aerated soil mix like some chunky aroid mix, water when the outside is loud and crunchy, overwatering is not something to entirely worry about but it’s still good to look out for.

I just started my moss poles in October… I now have 6 😁 I’ve learned the most valuable information from Sydney Plant Guy, there’s a whole moss pole playlist. He has many, many moss poles and the leaves on his plants are HUGE! He has water bottles with a hole punched in the lid ready all the time so he can flip the bottle upside down and the water drains into the moss. PlantsbyMelissa has pretty watering globes that are open at the top and she leaves it there and just adds water when necessary. My moss poles are young and the leaves are not getting big yet, but the roots are in the moss so it’s doing what it’s supposed to be doing.

I have a pickle plant who doesn’t easily drop its leaves I’m not entirely sure this is why it doesn’t but it’s what i do. My pickle plant sits in a southwest facing window getting a good 4-5 hours of direct sunlight, I don’t water too often. Pickle plants are succulents from South Africa, succulents and cacti can go very long without water and slow down their metabolism to conserve energy and water. I water mine when the leaves are pretty soft and mooshy, it bounces right back.

Enjoyed your plant tour. However do you manage to water all those plants and keep them looking lovely? I've about half that many and find it really hard to keep up. So glad your children are showing an interest in plants, it's good to encourage them. I did that with my son when he was young and at 37 he has quite a large plant collection. A question for you, I know you use to use Miracle Grow fertilizer but have switched to another product. Do you notice a significant difference? Thank you for your videos I always learn something new and find you very entertaining.

Oh I’m so here for this!!! @sheffieldmadeplants about pothos growing into the wall plaster- they are very delicate. When they attach, they pull right off, and what they leave behind is very easily removed… I don’t think you should have any issues. I just pulled mine off the wall and moved it a couple of months ago one thing is, you may lose some of the foliage where it was attached to the wall, because the aerial roots will suffer after you pull them away. ❤️

Tips for plants in semi hydro. Use slow release fertiliser bits. I use the ones by soil ninja, you just sprinkle a bit on top and water when needed. They last about 8 - 9 months and makes water plants in semi hydro hassle free!

This vieo is so calm and relaxing. Thank you for uploading this! Wow, it's already been a few months since the last 1 hour long tour video? Time flies by, doesn't 30:43 Weird. Like you did with your jade plant, I pruned one of my avocado trees two month ago probably. Because it was stunted and had suffered tranplant shock. Aand a few weeks after that, the top few buds started activating or getting bigger, two of them were looking promising. But only one of them continued to develop and form into a shoot. Don't get me wrong, the avocado tree is deligintly recovering, although it' slowly growing from the winter, because of the short days and cold drafts from the stupid old windows. I think it's going to grow more than 10 leaves in one set. I mean, the shoot or branch, if you will, is just growibng and growing and I'm not seeing the apical meristem or the end of that growth, at least 10 leaves. One of which has matured. And the damage from it being too pot/root bound and nutrient deficiencies has stopped spreading... completely. I pruned my main avocado that is suffering. I realised that if it weren't for that stick that I put a few months ago to support my tall avocado tree, my tree would surely have fallen or uprooted. The soil smells sour. I found a few worms in my soil, they looked like nematodes to me. I'm scared my tree has not many roots left. A few days ago, I found out the main problem to all the struggles of my trees wasn't overwatering or lack of oxygen, for the most part that is, but rather the type of water I am using. More on that another time for another day. The soil near the surface or a few inches below the surface smells sweet as well. Maybe salty as well, not exactly rotten. Admittedly, I haven't watched past 57:15. I will watch it tomorrow or maybe 2 days later at the weekend. It's so long to watch it in one go.

How very interesting, your plants are amazing thank you for sharing. I recently saw a video where a girl threaded her jade leaf cuttings on a string of cotton and hung up next to a window, no water or soil involved and within weeks they had produced roots and baby plants. Could also be an experiment you or your daughter might like to try.

I’m mostly amazed by how you can keep them all watered without overwatering. And that you can remember all their names😂 I have about 15 different plants (several of each) Mostly bonsai and small trees and I struggle to remember all their names😂

I am growing my alocasia melo in pon as semi hydro for about 6 months now, and it grew 2 massive leaves, about to grow a 3rd one, and only lost 1 smallest, oldest leaf recently. I have all my 6 alocasias and 4 anthuriums in pon, with a very cheap grow light, and all of them loving life and growing well. Hope that helps.

Tip for watering the moss pole, copied from Jan (moss pole expert by now)... Make a few holes in the cap of a water bottle and put it on top of the pole upside down. About 1 drop per second max, slower is better for proper absorption in my experience. Faster and most water will not be absorbed, gives the plant wet feet (what I'm guessing you're concerned about) :)

Thanks for the tour. Note on winter watering: I see a lot of plant 'advice' that warns against over-watering in winter. My experience is that's not necessarily the case. Obviously it depends on where you're located, the amount of light available in your place and the humidity of your rooms. (I'm jealous of your generous windows. My little flat is a cave.) I find most of my plants need as much or more water in winter, and it's not like I keep my heat on a lot. Bottom line: use a moisture meter or your finger (fingers are okay for smaller pots, but for my big guys the longer probe on the meter is vital.) You have to know which plants like to dry out between waterings and which want a more or less even moisture state all the time. I have to check mine weekly, and a couple of the really thirsty devils need my attention every three or four days. Well...idle hands are the devil's playground...

The hoya in your kitchen is not the one that people said you were scammed on, it is the heart shaped one you got as a present, sometimes growers put only the leaf in the soil, without the stem , so the plant cannot grow without a stem node. You can take the leaf out of the soil and see if you have a node in there.

you probably noticed by now, but I think your alocasia azlanii is growing a flower not a leaf, you can see how its thicker at the bottom. I have all my alocasias and most of my other plants in lechuza pon as semy-hidro setup. I also have a green-orange plant that goes black, will try the water conditioner for it, thanks for the tip.

Very much enjoying your videos and information as a new indoor gardener, I wonder with your moss polls, if you might run some hydroponic rope maybe 2 lengths through the middle of the moss, with the rope tailing out f the bottom of the pole and offered into a water source? I’ve had real success using this rope in my greenhouse, growing chili plants, the rope dose not brake down over the season and it works very efficiently
