I think you handled that really respectfully, with good advice. The one that gave me a lot of comfort was you saying that even if you have in laws that treat you well it can still be hard. I've been feeling guilt over it and I can feel the silent pressure to "have adjusted by now" after a year and struggling to feel at "home" when you're living in someone elses home and are supposed to adjust to their way of doing things.

I just got married last week to a pakistani, and we decided to move into our own place. I am so glad. I personally think living with in laws is not as great as it sounds, it depends on the family and their values. I know were paying rent but I'd rather pay rent than have to deal with family disagreements and less privacy. Even living outside of the family I've noticed they have so many disagreements that I am so happy I can take a back seat from!

My experience was fine in the first few months, it's after that my MIL got very comfortable insulting me all the time. I still don't say anything back, I hope to leave quietly for my husbands sake. And RE: having kids, just made it x10 worse. I don't get the help I should and I was expected to get back to work a week after my horrible c section

I have been living with my Pakistani in laws for nearly a year now and my husband wants me to take a 100% role in chores, even when I work etc. He doesn't like it when his mum lays a finger and when she does I get passive remarks and he makes me feel bad or guilty even though she's bored and has no job so she cooks and cleans to keep herself busy. I help my in-laws as much as I can but I don't know what to do in the mean time. I can't move out right now because we can't financially afford it, maybe in a year we might. Do you have any advice for the mean time

I hope you have moved out but if not I hope things are better if not then i implore you to speak with your husband that you need him to hear you when you speak and tell him how you feel and i hope he hears you and he speaks to your in laws to treat you with the respect you deserve

i lived with my mother in law for about 4 years. in the beginning it was sooo hard and everybody around who was married just not long ago had a home and we just had a room for us own. As it wasnt our home the rules were made by mummy in law - and she had strict rules- so we had a lot of problems - but as i said- just in the beginning. After 4 years we finally bought our own house and now im missing the time with her in the same house 😂😂 yupp, very strange! it was more easier living with her - and she cooked every day and it was just delicious and as Zeinah said - no rents! - best thing ever! Mommy was doing everything and now we have to do all by out own 😩
