Sierrah DiCosimo maybe I’m just a perfectionist but sometimes small habits make me question if they are still normal because like many people in the comment section are talking about this time pressure thing but I don’t have this I have more like if something isn’t perfectly aligned or if this one specific door isn’t closed or if I write something some lines just don’t feel right even tho I think they’d look perfectly fine to other people but I have to ‘correct‘ them or I’m getting this really weird feeling but maybe that’s just perfectionism Idk 😐
@Nneeras
@Nneeras 5 жыл бұрын
@@insa8142 Perfectionism is the urge for things to be perfect. OCD is more like doing things to your own accord. Perfectionism is the over all definition of that object being perfect. For example; drawing a perfect circle, most would think of a clean line and a perfect dimensional shape. That's perfectionism. Some OCDs close to the perfectionism category would be like; drawing a circle with one indent. It's not "perfect" but it HAS to be that way. In their eyes it's the RIGHT way.
@insa8142
@insa8142 5 жыл бұрын
Sierrah DiCosimo When I’m writing or drawing it’s like you said in the description of OCD but in every other way I think it’s perfectionism🤷🏽‍♀️ But it’s only writing and drawing so it isn’t that bad I should probably not worry about that too much 🤷🏽‍♀️ Thanks tho for explaining ☺️

Agreed. It’s called perfectionism. I consider myself a perfectionist. That means you love things to be clean and organized at all times. OCD is a mental disorder in which you need to accomplish repetitive tasks to feel satisfied and anxiety-free for the time being. It’s a real problem. People shouldn’t really be self-diagnosing themselves. It’s very frustrating, I feel terrible for the people with OCD that have to listen to that moronic bullshit.

Soo I'm almost out of the tunnel after battling ocd for 7 years. It's a VERY long process and it's so difficult to eliminate all of the rituals, now I have only one or two. I'm so happy, I have my life back. the intrusive thoughts are starting to fade and now I always tell myself :"your family Is not gonna die if you don't close your backpack 5 times" and know I'm starting to believe it. To all the people with ocd, i'm with you, you can do this :-)

Mine actually developed into urinary frequency , i didn't even noticed that my ocd caused it until I went to the doctor. We did urinalysis , ultrasound , blood tests and all were normal then i realized what if it was because whenever i thought of something bad , i would always force myself to pee because for me it was a way to prevent that bad thought to happen, it came to the point where if i touch something i'd pee , if i think of something bad, i'd pee , for me peeing was a way to relieve myself of these thoughts , but then I wasn't able to really do or enjoy anything because every fricking 3 minutes I would want to pee , it was really frustrating for me , Thankfully I've finally stopped it now, and enjoying life ! ,:)

Yes and no... Ive had severe OCD for a large portion of my life and it effects my reading alot. If I read and I think I misread, I'll reread the page. Then my brain uses that to,fire a storm of OCD by making me read if again.. Then each sentence out loud.... Then I'll start spelling out the words and reading out puncuation. It got to the point I could not read to help me relax (something I use to do) and in school I had to get extended times on tests cause of how long it take just reading a paragraph. So yes, if you're brain says "do it or else" (not exactly like that but just simplefying) when rereading and u keep repeating that process even though you KNOW you read it correctly.... Then, yes.

The fact you have to touch something until it feels right is so true. Sometimes it never feels right and I cry because the anxiety I get won't go away. It is a such a disgustingly strong lure to having everything perfect. I had OCD so bad, I would constantly wash my hands, it got so bad my hands were so dry they cracked and bled. I got on medicine which helped but I stopped taking it. I hate when kids at my school act like its cute to have OCD. They don't understand its a terrible disorder. The fact I have to turn my fan off and on 20 times and realize my footing wasn't right and do it again. To then realize my hands our now disgusting and I must go wash them and I have to close the door with my foot so my hands won't get dirty and to make sure my bed sheets are perfectly over the bed and the bed it pushed against the wall, to go wash my hands again. Finally become content and go to sleep. It has gotten better after speaking with a therapist. Please don't say you have OCD because its "cute". I commented this but I thought it would be nice on this thread.

Let me add that when watching a movie and I don't know what they said, I can't focus and it ruins the next scene. At home when watching a movie I will put on subtitles just to make sure it said what I thought it said, then turn off subtitles and rewatch the scene to make sure I didn't miss anything.

And every one and a while my mom will do the "you're so OCD joke" and I remind her that's not the case. My OCD routine. Close the toilet seat twice. Make sure to use your wrist when turning on the water. Use back of your hand to push soap out. Open door with wrist or arm. Make sure no creases are on your bed. Clean up all garbage in room. Organize stuffed animals twice. Flip the light switch on 38 times. At cousins house go to stairs and tap on the bottom step 110 times or 78 times. Move things to specific spots now because your going to do it sooner or later so how about sooner. Make outfit for tomorrow. Make sure the time is odd when you go to bed. Listen for the microwave to beep 3 times and then tick once to open. Right before fridge closes jump. Make sure whatever you took out of the fridge is on the counter before fridge closes. That's not everything, just what I can think of off the top of my head. Not including other fucked up things.

I've had "strange" thoughts before like intrusive thoughts that I would never tell anyone about or think really of it as anything. I never wanted to say anything because I thought my brain was just making this up or I'd sound insane with what I would describe that my brain was telling me. Things I'll never do ever, but I was scared maybe that at a point I will do it. I feel like I can come very close to negatively reacting to these thoughts and I thought they weren't real or I was just messed up, too. But later, after I had actually dug up some information about it, I realized this is a very real thing that other people have, too.

Every night I have to tell my mom I love her and good night and that I am going to bed or I get a gut feeling that something bad will happen to her, there is something else but I can't type it out because then i feel like something bad is going to happen to my family. This has only happened twice but whenever I find a stray hair normally my sister's i tell myself I can't let it go or something bad will happen to my sister. I do not do this anymore because I moved houses, but when I was about eight every night when I had to go say good night to my mom I would have to crawl through a kitchen if I did not do that I would be terrified that someone would shoot me through the windows. Around the same time I was eight I could not keep any secrets from my family or I would have to think something would happen to them, that thought would torture me every day. This other thing I am about to tell you does not happen much anymore and I swear I am not a sociopath, I always had a fear that I would hurt someone and I would have nights where my brain tortured me and making me think if I could actually hurt these people. 1 last thing I do every sense I dissected a frog and a sheep eye ball I can't have anything with the same texture and the sheep eye ball smelled like weird ink so i can't eat any food that as a resembles taste of ink. Do I have OCD ? ( thank you if you spent your time reading this, and please tell me if you think I have OCD or not because I am really confused with what I am )

Natasha Kowalczyk I have very similar thoughts as you. I feel that if I don't/do a certain action/say or not say a certain thing/or don't think a certain thing, then it either shows that I'm a failure of a person..or something bad will happen to my family, people I know, And even random strangers. That's why I panic and feel the need to do whatever it is I have to do to stop the bad things from happening. If I don't succeed in doing this, I start doing all these mental rituals till my brain is at last satisfied x

Yes you have the same as me, a mixture of ocd and anxiety. Usually the ocd builds up on the anxiety, so your anxious behaviour must have been there longer. Ocd takes your anxiety as its advantage and holds it against you. That’s what my therapist told me. And you’re not a sociopath. I had (sometimes still have) the same thoughts that I might hurt someone I love. My therapist always tells me that I should tell myself that the ocd is talking rn, not myself. You have obsessive thoughts and actions just like me, look out for a therapist because of mine I’ve overcome a lot of my ocd 🌹🌻

You aren’t the problem, they are. Don’t be afraid to talk to someone, even if you do have social anxiety, go straight to a professional and say “please help me” ignore any fears that you are having and just say those 3 words. The journey may be hard, but the outcome will be worth it. *Im deeply sorry, because I can’t imagine the pain you go through everyday*

So i am almost 100% certain its not Ocd, and im not going to say it is because i am not going to self diagnose, but i have “rules“ i have to abide by in my head. I have my bedtime rules; i have to turn off my light and when i do i have to run to my bed, close my eyes, and count from 10 to 1 four times, then look at my closet and vent 4 times unless I have the feeling that I will get killed in my sleep. I also have a thing where I simply cannot STAND the thought of wearing clothes someone else has worn that I don’t know. It makes me feel disgusted, and it makes me freak out. I have thoughts that pop into my head that show me really scary visuals, and say things like “ What if we just got into a car crash and drove into the ocean right now?” And then I won’t be able to stop looking out the window constantly to make sure it doesn’t happen. It doesn’t happen all the time and it’s not consistent, but sometimes I get things where I have to do something repeatedly until it feels 100% correct, or else I’ll end up feeling really disturbed, and on the verge of breaking down. Just an overall horrible feeling. I’m not sure why this happens to me or why I do these things. I don’t think I have OCD, but then again I could be wrong. I do have BPD, but I don’t think this has anything to do with that considering none of the symptoms are on that diagnosis? If anyone could give insight on this, or have any recommendations, that would be greatly appreciated, thank you! :>

i love you. thank you so much for sharing this. i let OCD control my life for 2 years and can relate to a lot of this video. it’s not something that’s easy to talk about because everyone so casually claims to have OCD... because they like to keep things tidy. everything changed one day when i read an article saying something along the lines of “because you have OCD you are probably the least likely person to make that bad thing happen” and i challenged myself over time to trust myself and stop checking checking checking. when i came back home my door was always locked because of course i locked it the first time. of course i didn’t leave anything plugged in that would set fire to the house. of course i didn’t put my cat in the washing machine. of course i’m not going to hurt myself or someone else if i don’t do a specific thing. i’d like to point out my mental health issues were also made severe when i went on a specific contraceptive pill called “yasmin” and once i came off them i was able to start the recovery. i no longer identify as someone that is mentally ill. sometimes things come back but i fight them and i remind myself to trust myself 🙏🏼❤️

When people use ocd in a joking matter and makes it smaller than it really is, it makes me want to scream at everyone who jokes about it asking them do you want to have to think about breathing about the numbers you see everywhere and if they're even or not, do you want to have to organize everything you see in ROYGBIV and then especially with food and candies like m&ms and skittles you have to line them in that color order downwards and how many of each color you line them next to the same color side ways and if you dare see a symbol or a misshaped on you have to also put them in the most perfect to least perfect in every side ways color order, then you start on your right side of your mouth and take first candy that protrudes from the others and go down switching with each candy to the left and then right and then left side of your mouth & chew exactly 8 times until you have perfect rows that match up and you follow the rows down still alternating each side of the mouth per candy.etc

It's not I loved this it was beautifully done cinematically and also done very well explaining just a small tid bit of this. I too hate when everyone takes every little thing too serious and gets butt hurt about it. My comment was aimed towards the people who I see all the time who use illnesses and conditions people have as a light hearted joke, when they don't know how bad it can get and how real it Is for the people living with it. I was definitely not saying you were doing this with your video, your doing almost the opposite by educating people in a creative way that almost everyone can understand, and thank you for that. @@hazra.444 this doesn’t sound like OCD, I think your brain is just playing tricks on you. OCD is way worse than just annoyances and strange rituals. Also it’s evident in a controlled environment. It’s nice to know that other people feel the exact same way as me. I can relate to almost every single point in this video, I’m not diagnosed with ocd but I sometimes suspect I have it. I’m not going to just diagnose myself like basically everyone in my classes do, even though they don’t even know the real meaning of ocd.

"If you sleep with your face up, someone will kill you with a pillow". "Don't see that much this knife or you might kill yourself". "Checkout out the windows and doors are closed. Maybe someone can come in and hurt you or your family". Three of all my intrusive thoughts. Just yesterday my therapist said that I might have OCD. I mean, this thoughts were there almost all my life and I didn't even notice.

To takie błędne koło.

Człowieku, idź do lekarza.

I myself is pretty sure that I have OCD. Examples: -When I walk in public, I can’t touch the littles gaps between the concrete. -When I walk up the stairs, I have to count to 3, and repeat it until I am at the top. -When I am sitting in a chair, I have to fidget my foot in a triangle 7 times before I can relax. (If I am talking to someone, I don’t stop till the conversation is over. -when I’m listening to music, and have to stop it for some reason, I have to stop at a point where they take a pause (I cant stop in the middle of them singing a sentence). -when sitting someone I cant reactance the floor, I have to count to 7 until I can get off. -when walking across the street, I have to touch the pole 7 times. -when laying down in my bed, with my knees up. I have diagnosed OCD, and everything your saying is relatable on such a fundamental level. If what you are experiencing is having a major impact on your life or even if your just curious if you might have it TALK TO A DOCTOR. As for being conerned- well it depends on the person. I have often suffered the downward spirals depicted in the vid, and I learned what was particularly triggering and avoid it. I've also learned to accept it as a part of me- in many ways this was made easier by my upbringing bc my dad also has it, but there was definitely some pain and self growth to get where I am now. I hope this helps and enlightens you (and that the double spaces after sentences are not triggering 🤷) 😊
