Hi everyone, it's John Paul here. Thank you for all the amazing comments and support. I really appreciate it! It took me a while to figure out how to navigate owning my own house, yet still having enough time and money for the lifestyle I enjoy. My life isn't perfect, but I'm grateful for how things have panned out so far 😊 I've been living in my tiny house for 6 months! It has been a crazy journey so far, starting with using camping gear inside the house before I got furniture, to splitting my time between van-dwelling and tiny house living to cut out the ridiculous commute time between the Blue Mountains and Sydney City for work 😅 Along the way I was lucky enough to be filmed by Bryce and Rasa from the KZbin channel and website Living Big in a Tiny House. They did an amazing job telling my story at month four! Since then I have been fortunate enough to have had the time and money to travel to India, Sri Lanka and Nepal, while still being on track to pay off my mortgage within two years. I've also had time to rekindle my love for photography, take up surfing as a new hobby, spend Easter with my family, help two friends move house, and help my sister build up her new van for her own #vanlife adventures! However, the journey has only just begun... I haven't spent enough time helping to manage the land I'm sharing, and I'm yet to create a permanent toilet solution for the house... And, I haven't yet had a housewarming party! For those that are wondering what the future has in store for me. Well, of course, I have no idea 😅 But my intention is to find a piece of land to own and share with the people that I care for the most. Then, maybe to start a family and build two or three tiny houses connected by an awesome outdoor living area! And I want to travel, a lot. Ive got my eyes on Indonesia, China and Mongolia next. Amelie is the name of the house - yes, after the introverted yet inquisitive character that devotes her life to bringing happiness to others 😊 Together with my van Constance, I am reminded to keep trying my best to make people smile, and to keep exploring this amazing and ever-changing world. With love jp P.S. I'm aware that it's totally cheesy to name my house and van... This is the first time I've said it in public! But hey, I like cheese. Especially cheddar.

Hi John Paul, it's 6 months later but I'm just getting to see your amazing story. I hope all is well for you and you got to check off a few more things from your list. Your story is very inspirational to me and many others. Some of my goals are to have an affordable home, get out of debt and make a living doing what I love as a creative person in the feild of art, design and literature. Stories like yours show me it’s all very possible, I just have to keep at it and make some adjustments. Thank you and wishing you all the best on your journey. 💖🏡🚗👏🏽☺

This is such a well done show that answers the questions viewers really want to know. I’ve found that I prefer this series over any on national television. I really appreciate how the focus is split pretty equally between the person being interviewed and the house itself. I think to fully understand the house, you need to know the dwellers intentions! 10s across the board :)

One thing I would do to improve the Stealth Van... is to install a swivel on the drivers seat, so he can turn it all the way around and have a captains seat to sit in, instead of just using his sleeping space and possibly a custom table that can be pulled or folded out from the side of the seat to be able to do work on (although the lap-table looked pretty useful, as well).

I think the message is clear to me, that I need to establish a vehicle that I can live in, as well as drive, and have a separate tiny house... Of course, I've been thinking this way for awhile as my ideas evolve... 😎 I'm now homesick for a home I don't even own yet... 😅 Cheers Bryce, Rasa, John Paul, you all have my envy and respect! 🖤🦇

ImDBatty1 , I have recently downsized to a tiny apartment and am about to also start traveling in a small vehicle. For me it is the best of both worlds...I have a minimalistic, small, worry-free home base, while having the freedom to travel and have wonderful experiences in my drivable home. 🏡🚗
@ImDBatty16 жыл бұрын
Lori P. My issue with apartment life, is all studio apartments and one bedroom apartments are taken, or cost only a hundred dollars less than a two bedroom... I'm also not tied to where I live currently, it's just a place until I can get into a tiny house or converted van or box truck... I'll probably keep looking, or looking at getting a transfer from work to elsewhere in the United States, unless I can find more work outside of the country... 🙂 🦇
@lori67096 жыл бұрын
ImDBatty1, apartment life was definitely not my first choice. I have dreamt of having a tiny house for a long time…but finances are not quite matching up with my dream! I also have thought of eventually building out a box truck to travel, allowing me to travel with/in my home. My first step toward this goal was to significantly downsize into a tiny apartment, allowing me to focus on traveling now, and begin that travel with the vehicle I have, rather than wait for a larger vehicle! When reality does not quite allow for the ultimate dream, rather than to become an arm chair dreamer, I found a way to take steps towards what I want. I wish you the best in reaching your dreams! ✌🏼

This is exactly what I have been planning. I will be living in my conversion van but I will have a small cheap house so that I have a mailing address for large package deliveries and a place to store extra items that I don't need as well as a place to park overnight. Living doesn't get any cheaper than that without having to rely on others.

I made good progress on my partially underground tiny house this summer. Six inch snow dump last night, no more outside work til spring. Not quite ready to finish out the inside. Already made a 10x10 Japanese style garden at the entry. Attaches to a 70 SF triangular greenhouse in process, which attaches to a 12x14 carport... under which I will build an 8x8 earthbag "cellar". I am feeling plush. On a 5 acre food forest. Looked one last time at over priced real estate in the Seattle area... and will trade my Tacoma on a van for grandkid visits. Better five acres free and clear than a fat mortgage.

This is a clever arrangement, but I wonder, how does he heat the tiny house in winter? It might look tropical now but it can also get cold in the Blue Mountains.

Rowan Hagen just a small electric space heater at the moment. 10-20 minutes and the house is warm enough for a while night 😊

I hadn't thought of that as he had it built, but how much insulation should it take? He is in a sheltered spot there.

i spent 4 years living out of my backpack in the late 1970s ... splitting my time between durango colorado and edinburgh scotland ... yes, it was liberating ... but all of a sudden i needed a feeling of permanence ... but even today i lust for a tiny house ... i did boats off and on, but now i need dry land ... i do love to see what is being done here ... !!!!!!!! ... thank you for sharing .... chuck

It is October 2019 as I type, and I decided a week ago that 2020 is my year to declutter my apartment. I'm not waiting for January - I've already started. I have way too many clothes, a small store of yarn, and a lot of supplies for work (craft supplies, mainly, as I work in daycare). I want a simple, uncluttered life, and an uncluttered mind, and you can't have an uncluttered mind in a cluttered space. The number 2020 is significant, too, as it signifies perfect vision. I hope to declutter my life so as to re-establish a vision for my life. My life came crashing down in 2004, and then again in 2011, and I've been working hard to reassemble myself. This is the next step, and one day I would love to own a tiny home!

Omgosh I love that you've covered someone that also is doing Van Life! Back when I told you a couple years ago about how I was aiming to get a bus to renovate. I've downsized that idea to a van but then as the deeds of the house I live in with my mum prohibits "commercial vehicles" which a van is.. I've thought of a mini van, as those are not classed as "commercial vehicles".. So as soon as I have got my license and found whatever mini van I can get my hands onto, I can be out exploring basically instantly. Also it's much better downsizing and then sizing up until you've found the sweet spot for yourself. As if a mini van I find too small for me, I won't of spent even a 10th as much as I would converting a commercial van to a livable space. Hope you have some more van life surprises in store!

It's great to see how you don't have to give up having urban employment to live in a tiny house, and having a stealth bedroom in his van means not having to commute daily.

This may be a weird thing to appreciate, but I love the way you folks transition shots to the sound of doors rolling or gently snapping shut. It's very pleasing! The van door shutting in this one especially.
