I just tried watching a tiny house program on netflix. The pace was frenetic and the quick camera cuts and zooms meant you couldn’t get a proper sense of the space and layout. It was awful and stress inducing to watch. The exact opposite of what Bryce and Rasa have achieved.

Hey La! Absolutely, when it comes to small space designing I think you need to prioritise your needs and then ensure that those needs are taken care of in your build. If you pick out the things that are really important to you and make sure that they are included, then the space will work for you and you'll be happy in your home. This couple did a great job of that and their home is all the more special for it!

Living Big In A Tiny House, I just read an article that you are based in New Zealand. I was just over there May 2016 designing sets that were built in Studio West right out side of Auckland for the film Project Eden Vol 1. We shot all over the North Island. Then traveled down to Wellington to talk on a panel at Armageddon. I want to get back there and make another film, it is such a beautiful friendly place. I think out of all the countries I've made films in the most beautiful are New Zealand and Ireland. It's awesome that you get to travel to other countries to shoot tiny homes. The variety of tiny homes that you have come across is so amazing. We are thinking of going tiny since we travel so much and every episode of Living Big in a Tiny House makes me want to do it even more.

This is a real tiny HOME. So many tiny houses out there, but this one really feels like a home and the budget is in line with what a tiny home ought to be IMHO... a tiny home - not a tiny Mcmansion.
@livingbig7 жыл бұрын
True on all fronts. You can build a beautiful and affordable tiny home for a small budget, but as with this couple it does mean doing the labour yourself and spending time sourcing affordable (usually reclaimed) materials. I especially like these projects as the owners generally are more connected to the build as their own labour went into creating it, and every plank of wood has a story.

Nice. I find these tiny homes on wheels very intriguing. Maybe one day! Currently, my husband and I live in a 916 square foot house we built for about $20,000. It's a straw bale house. We used some reclaimed materials. Anyone can see it in the "Straw Bale House" playlist on my channel. In a way we are building a tiny house on wheels...very tiny! Hi Bryce, there is 1 crucial issue that is never ever discussed in any tiny house videos - the issue of where do you actually put these houses??? Building/buying a portable tiny house may be cheap and a solution to the problem of housing affordability etc., but finding a place to put a tiny home is definitely NOT cheap and easy in any major city in Australia - there is nowhere affordable , other than a friend or family member's backyard , to put a tiny house and as most people work in a major city, parking a tiny house in the country is not viable. I really wish you would cover this issue in one of your future videos. Thanks, Magdalena
@lorrainebrusch22107 жыл бұрын
Yes!!! Tiny houses are an impossible dream unless you have somewhere to park them and your local council allows it. This is never discussed in any of these videos :-(
@Itz_kayyyy07 жыл бұрын
Magdalena French bingo! There are a ton of regulations regarding square footage, trailers, etc. Where I live, you can't find a plot in the mountains for under $30k and of course it is far from any major cities. They never address these factors and these are crucial to consider before dumping money into a tiny home that you may not even be able to place somewhere.
@JaneOfAlladria7 жыл бұрын
So true. No site information. These videos all have one thing in common. They all talk about what goes in. Never a word about what comes out and where it goes.

A shorter commute (the shorter the better, IMHO) equals an improved quality of life -- not to mention a smaller carbon footprint: fewer nonrenewable resources consumed, etc., etc., etc.. Most of us already spend far too much time at a 'job' -- how many more hours of your (very finite) life do you wish to spend sitting in a car?
@tanstaafl19607 жыл бұрын
Gray water is occasionally mentioned, but not the rest of the waste. Even a composting toilet needs to be emptied out once in a while. A standard flush toilet (even a modern low flow one) uses a lot of water, and you'd need a holding tank. At that point it's no different from an RV, with regular trips to a 'dump station' required.

Thanks Maggie. I really enjoy showcasing these homes that have a high content of reclaimed materials. The building industry is incredibly wasteful . Some estimates place around 40% of landfill waste as coming from the construction industry. With tiny homes, we have an opportunity to salvage much of this and repurpose it for incredible small homes such as this one. :)

In all the other tiny home videos I've seen, the floors are either laid out horizontally (making the space seem longer) or vertically (making the space seem wider), but at an angle, like they did it, I think kind of made the space appear wider and longer at the same time but also added a lovely artistic and homey feel to the space. I am obsessed with tiny house living!! I absolutely LOVE that they found a way to keep costs down!! By doing their own work and DIYing it they created a realistic budget, and Im so glad they were deatured here so others could get a feel on how to really save when downsizing!! 😌💗

Omg, STUNNING!!! That wood kitchen👌🏻! And at 62, short w/arthritis, l truly appreciate the stairs over a ladder. The doors & all the reclaimed various woods are so beautiful. The bathroom sink is gorgeous, WHAT a beautiful & thoughtful use of a wedding gift. Better than another set of knives or coffee maker! Even a work/guest loft. These kids thought of EVERYTHING, absolutely awesome design!👍🏻👏🏻🏆 And such a sweet young couple starting out. I wish you all the best in the many happy years to come!!🐾🌈☮️🇨🇦

Kudos to couple. They made a cabin home. There are a lot of houses with a lot of things but are just houses not homes.

These two seem so sweet and gentle. It's amazing to see all of the reclaimed materials.

Great price, lots of character and super cozy. They did well fitting so much in in a 20ft trailer too, I've seen some much larger but yet had let living space. Thanks for the tour! Not sure if you're still in the US or where your travels are taking you, but if you're heading near Tuscon AZ you should try to check out Derek & Hannah's tiny, I think you'd love their place. They filmed the whole building process on their channel (Life inside a Box), and have a great off-grid setup.

Hey Elle! We're in Canada at the moment, but do plan on visiting the USA again before returning home to New Zealand. We missed Arizona on our last trip, and it would be great to make it there next time!

Living Big In A Tiny House When you come back home to New Zealand are you going to do any more filming of Tiny Homes here again? My wife and I are looking at building a Tiny House here in the Hawkes Bay in the next year or so once we are able to fix up the house we are living in then put it on the market.
@livingbig7 жыл бұрын
We sure will! When we're back we will be doing another nationwide tour and spend a couple of months on the road, getting all new stories from New Zealand.

What a fantastic Couple. To see two young people so focused and sensible in this day and age is truly amazing. As for their home, what more could they want and using recycled materials is a fantastic way forward, both for the environment and obviously for their own personal finances. I really think Tiny Homes are the way forward, I would love to live in a tiny home even at my time of life...

Just keep the tiny house and put it on your property when you buy a home and rent it for like 700/month or what ever is ideal for that area.

That isn't allowed in every neighborhood. Tiny houses need their OWN neighborhoods. That involves petitioning zoning boards and planning ahead. People complaining that there is no place to park need to buy land and get zoning to MAKE neighborhoods.

Gabriel Tams, You forgot to mention that Trump's daddy gave him a million dollars to get started.. If you'd like a wager, I'll bet you 5 years of my salary to 1 of yours that his IQ is average at best.
