If you live in US?other moderncountries too? the city or nearby smalltowns, there still MANY small REFURBISHABLE/REMODEL small 750-1200sqft, 1 story 1950-70's homes you can buy cheap foreclosures/empty & more $ you can literally be off grid put up panels & small windgenerators. Water collect from roof, compost, garden your yard, redo roof/walls for lighting/sun heating. Some places allow raise chickens/rabbits goats fenced like dogs. Early 90's b4 this was a 'fad-thing' I saw silliness ofowning huge house space and waste. Bought a house for less than paying apt rent and started using the savings (screw landlords and bankers) to be more environmentally sound as I kept up with the tech & movement. Instead I intend to be a little old lady in a self sustaining OWNED home in the city next to downtown.

@caledoniabeautifuleden85845 жыл бұрын
English Muffin Cloth nappies can easily go until baby is potty trained, but once baby is on solids, I imagine they will need a detergent to get rid of the smell. Also, my cloth nappies/ diapers would get a strong ammonia smell, we did use white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda and sunshine but sometimes they NEED a proper detergent.
@caledoniabeautifuleden85845 жыл бұрын
umma a Thankyou for replying, that is interesting, we would often have to strip our nappies but always had the same problem. The nappies I had were recommended to be washed at 60 degrees Celsius. My youngest is 9 now, I don’t need nappies for babies anymore, just reusable san pro for myself but this is good to know, if a friend has similar issues I can pass on your advice!

Sunshine and snow are fantastic for dealing with cloth nappies. Just scrape, soak and then cold wash with detergent....I liked grated sunlight soap, rinse well and hang out in the sun to dry.

I think that the "gotta have bigger/more" lifestyle soon proves to ALL the people that its a wrong way to live, but not all of those discover the better alternative. That is why we should teach by examle and show children that you can be in connection with nature and yourself, without the "rat race" part.

Would like to see more people who have done this without the help of parents, especially living on their land. It feels a bit unachievable for those of us who don't have that kind of support.

There's a great video on this channel of an older couple in New Zealand (?) who bought the land themselves for like $20k. It's not a huge property but they have a few different structures and a wonderful garden.

As a person who doesn't have that help, I think it's really doubtful I would buy and live in a tiny house. A small apartment? A used airstream? Sure. But when I can buy an older but nice 1200 sqft house for around $140k, it doesn't make sense for me to build my own house and buy my own land.
@sherylc73915 жыл бұрын
We don’t have that type of support as well. So my husband posted on a buy and sell app in search of someone that would rent their land to us and we actually found someone. So we will build ours on her land with rent being $400/month.

Whats in a name I get what u mean but a lot of those ex vegans were eating very unrealistic and or had digestive issues meaning it was difficult for them to process legumes so they’d be nutritionally lacking. Also many receive bad advice and do not so healthy things such as extensive water fasts, eating not enough calories and having mainly mono meals ( only eating papayas for a meal or just avocados or just mangos). While I thing the vegan diet can be done properly I don’t think there is enough good information out there and many influencers can mislead people. But I believe from the research I’ve done that a proper balanced vegan diet is far healthier than the standard western diet. But I don’t like when people preach and push their ideals on you. It scares people, including myself, away. They should just let people come to them if they want to learn.

@Mameha45 жыл бұрын
How does this zero waste work with hygene, though? Toothpaste. Where do you buy unpackaged toothpaste? Shampoo, shower gel? Well, you could use soap, but I think he said they don't use soap or detergent. So how does their stuff get clean? And baby poops into the diapers, too. They just wash it down the sink? What will they do once the poop gets solid? No tissues or toilet paper allowed or are they allowed? How do you get poopy diapers clean without a detergent? Or have I heard that one wrong?

I enjoyed the humility expressed by the couple - not too proud to acknowledge the assistance they received and the learning process involved. Who amongst us does the whole journey of life as a Lone Wolf? If they had help; that’s their good luck. They’ve had a win - good for them!

Step one to debt free tiny house living: Have a family with acres of land to live on. Step two: Make sure one of those parents is in the construction/building industry to help you "DIY" for free labor. Look, I love this house and the couple seems nice. But they're only debt free living because their parents took on debt to live on their land. Nothing is free.

eqwoody You don't seem to understand what debt free means. You can pay a million dollars for something and be debt free, if you had the million dollars and paid in full in the first place. A lot of people have saved up what is a down payment for a house, and instead use that money to make a little house. Of course these people in this video had a lot of help, but plenty others can do that without the help. In a lot of places that aren't mainstream, a plot of land can be as low as a few thousand dollars. Obviously if you were to go into this with no money being a teenager or college student with no job, you wouldn't be debt free because you'd have to get a loan. That's called common sense. Feel free to use it. but it also is like paying a car payment (or more depending on what you buy) if you get financing. Compared to the 1000 dollars or more it can cost for a traditional house. Please, please, please just use your brain and figure things out. It's not that complicated

I love these episodes, not only because of the beautiful tiny houses but because of their amazing owners! Once u start caring for thr environment, there is no way to go back, I reckon, there is always something more we could do :) my partner and I are just starting this journey of conscience and these changes make so much sense, the more u read, the more u get informed, the less damage to this planet u want to create.

This "tiny house" is awesome! Looks really spacious. Loved Melba's room. I'd love to live in a home like this. Great job!!

Probably the best couch I’ve seen in a tiny house yet! Love the storage steps too. Very clever. Adore the wet room. Actually a sensible use of the limited space in a tiny house. Surprised I’ve not seen wet rooms installed more often.

What an amazing thought to be able to give this home to their daughter when she’s first out of high school and into her 20’s and on. Wow. Perspective. They also could rent it out to another small family starting out when they’re ready to move into a larger home. Beautiful.

It's not a tiny house but a compact house with full of all facilities in a perfect space. Their garden gives a beautiful ambience to the House.

Nice clean lines good use of natural accents and an ample deck space. For very tall people, I am surprised they didn't opt for a downstairs bed. Loads of loft space but low ceilings can get frustrating, maybe?

I agree with not keeping foods in plastic, I just wish Costco and other warehouses sold bulk foods in paper bags like Whole Foods! We transfer our foods to all sizes of canning jars, but we recycle a ton from all that packaging! Plus they use a lot of plastic wrappings. We use rags as paper towels but also paper towels for raw meats. It would be a hotbed for bacteria to toss rags with raw meat juices in with the rest of the dirty laundry! We bought most of our kids clothes used because they grow so fast, kids clothes are hardly worn and are usually in great shape. Tag sales were our friend. We used cloth diapers, and our kids were rash-free. We do a lot of the same and we are purging our stuff getting ready for retirement now in a few years. It is freeing to only keep those things that bring you joy and are useful! I love the idea of the minimal lifestyle and no clutter where here, most of this couple's things have a purpose, but, crawling across the floor to my bed and crawling back across to go downstairs in the middle of the night to go potty is a bit of a stretch at our age (60's).😁 Plus, not everyone has family land where they can stay free, and utilize Mom and Dad's home and yard when needed. This couple is very blessed. I'm glad they are looking ahead to finding their own piece of property some day, though. Then it will truly be "their" homestead. Until then, Mom & Dad are helping them out which is wonderful, and they can save some money to do so.

I raised my second child diaper-free, in a city apartment. It was waaaaay easier every time we were close to nature. So here's an idea to even lessen your footprint, and even better for the baby.
