The best farmhouse I’ve seen on your channel! I wondered where this lady had gone! It’s an exceedingly special home! Many try too hard and their homes feel forced - not authentic. I’m longing to see more homes like this one!

m jj I’ll put it this way. To me, homes look their best when filled with possessions that appear as if they have been amassed through the generations.
@GinKirk72564 жыл бұрын
Saii Sailo exactly! Way too many homes are filled with cutesy room dandruff or look cookie-cutter. Some are filled with beautifully authentic French brocante that merely serve to collect dust, rather than actually be used. Such practices make one’s home look contrived rather than natural.

I absolutely love everything about your home! I agree with the way that you decorate. I have owned three period homes, one of which was a Victorian captain's home, and I always let the home dictate the decor. Like you, I don't buy new furniture. I hunt for just the right piece at thrift stores, antique stores, Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, and even side-of-the road finds - it's amazing what people throw out. I definitely don't follow trends. Period pieces are timeless and crafted with love and craftsmanship. You are a terrific artist, by the way! The horse painting is gorgeous! My husband is also a wonderful artist and I love having his paintings and drawings displayed throughout our home. Opal is beautiful; I love Siamese. Thank you for sharing your lovely home and going into such detail about the home and decor, as well as the stories behind why you selected what you did and explaining how people lived. ❤️

I'm commenting on this (now) 4-year-old video. Your kitchen is lovely! I always say, it's not the kitchen, it's the cook! Sooo many of the new contraptions (appliances) just take up space, creating the need for more space. No need for an air fryer, a rice cooker, a panini press, a bread machine, a George Foreman this or that, etc. Beautiful antique hutch!

What a sweet sweet precious family. Totally enjoyed the tour. In adopting another child is so loving to give another little life wonderful memories in a mommy and a daddy. The only thing I couldn't live without would be a flat screen so I could see the History Channel old home tours HGTV and and just to make sure if there's bad weather in the area to be prepared. Loved, loved, loved the Siamese Kitty I've had one and there so sweet and he was a talker. I don't care what time of day or night he would walk down the hall just meowing. It was so cute. So I'm very sentimental when it comes to Siamese. And that name opal. Too cute. You have a wonderful beautiful, blessed family.

Hi Mrs. Living it Country. I so appreciate what you and your family are doing with your beautiful Gabled Ell Hall and Parlor farmhouse. I, as well, am a committed historical conservationist and restorationist with little room for the house picklers and remuddlers infesting the 'preservationist' movement since the mid--1990's. I'm not sure where you're located, but I'd bet you're fairly close to Ohio. I say that because I know where the interior trim and moulding finishing lumber originally was milled at, and it's about 7 blocks from my own Gabled Ell Hall and Parlor cottage farmhouse (1 1/2 story version of your home). I'm in Toledo, Ohio in the first residential neighborhood in the city, currently registered as the Vistula Historic District. The first commercial business opened in 1834, & was the mill mentioned above. It was on Chestnut St, between N. Erie & N. Summit Streets and milled nearly all interior finishing lumber for the emerging middle class to upper middle class residential single family homes, duplexes, and row-mansions in every major city in Ohio from Toledo to Cincinnati using the extensive network of canals and narrow boats. It was such high quality wood and quality of craftsmanship that by the mid-1870's, it was found as far away as Bowling Green, KY; Huntington, WV; Buffalo, NY; Elmira, NY & Millersberg, PA. The mill operated between 1834 & 1915, when increased competition from new mills using modern equipment which could produce higher volumes at faster rates, which lowered costs that the Chestnut St mill was unable to keep up with their steam powered flat belt and pulley lineshaft machine equipment, which always produced superior quality materials and maintained traditional methods and techniques for the lifespan of the mill. Your trim and finish materials are identical to those in a Cleveland Double style duplex, and remain unpainted. I'm fairly sure that what you have under that paint is the same old-growth Tiger Oak heartwood milled trim. The corner roses on your window and door trim work are one of the features unique to the individual finish and trim carpenters who did the design and installation of interior features and built-in cabinetry. They were made individually on a standard lineshaft wood lathe, or sometimes on site with a 'portable machine shop' which was mounted to a massive flatbed horse wagon and provided basic millwork machinery used for the last stages of new home construction. A lot of houses had their poplar clapboard siding milled onsite with the band saw station on the mill wagon. I've sniffled through the corners and borders of historic homes in 39 US States, & the Chestnut St mill maintains first place status for milling the most opulent interior features in homes of 1200 sq ft or less, and provided a higher quality of household domestic life for people at the "poverty break-out point" than any other home appliance, feature, or fixture manufacturer or supplier in the US. I have over a metric crap-ton of original design catalogs, craftsmanship and guild manuals and reference guides, building, electrical, gas and plumbing codes and regulatory texts from 1888 to 1930 as well as several thousand original photos, floorplans, and design and layout graphics all in digital format. Feel free to contact me if you want anything, I didn't incur any costs in obtaining the information so I'm willing to give it to anyone who wants it, I just can't afford to host that many gigabytes of data on a website for easy download. Let me know and I'll send you a list of materials and you'll find the items you need, and I'll get you a manageable package of only the stuff relevant to your project. I've subscribed here, and look forward to more great stuff from someone who clearly and sincerely cares about the effort originally put into these homes and are actively demonstrating that in every decision made which results in legacy-grade permanence rather than typical replacement of permanent features with disposable products.

She has a beautiful home! Very in line with my decorating style and actually staying authentic with decor. I use old ads and books,also tours of abandoned houses and museums to get period correct decor ideas and colors. My grandparents own 4 old farmhouses (a 1927, a 1935, and 2 other pre ‘40s homes. They still have most of original features in them which is great. I also decorate with weeds from our field and forest. I only decorate with used or old authentic items- No hobby lobby or reproduction stuff. I also like farmhouses that have stuff from different decades because that’s what most people did was update at some point-and it can still look good. The house my grandparents live in has 50s and 60s era cabinetry in it but they did a major addition onto the house in the 70s and so there are parts that have that styling. All farmhouse design doesn’t have to be from the 1800-1900s. They actually have a farm with all sorts of animals,etc so any house on a farm is a farmhouse lol 😄

Love what you've done. The kitchen is a dream and those dishes are so pretty. The one and only thing I personally wouldn't want to do in my own old home is to not have the finished ceiling in the living room. My kids' rooms happen to be above our living room, and those kids are loud enough WITH the extra layer of sound buffer between the living room & their rooms, so I can't imagine how loud they'd be if we opened the ceiling, LOL! But all joking aside, I adore seeing someone buy an old house and really embrace that it's an old house. Beautiful job!

Love this house so much! Also it’s fun to think about the concept of living an old-fashioned lifestyle, while also having a very successful KZbin channel. What a time to be alive! 🤣❤️
