I went from drinking 6 diet sodas per day to zero - and cut out sweets four months ago. Not only have I saved a significant amount of money, but I've lost 35 lbs without any other effort. I still make something sweet for my husband once a week (he's diabetic and doesn't really need it either), but I don't even crave it anymore. We are planning a cruise to celebrate our 40th anniversary next summer, so all the money I'm saving from our grocery budget, I'm stashing away so we have everything covered to pay for it in cash. It helps to have a goal.

My husband eats oatmeal every day for breakfast so I have it on the counter in a glass jar with a measuring cup in it, the raisins, almonds, cinnamon and sugar are also in glass jars next to each other, that way he doesn't need to keep getting it in and out of the cupboard. My coffee, tea and sugar are on a shelf above the kettle with a spoon in the coffee. Baking items are all together on one shelf, extras are in my bedroom closet turned into a pantry. We use a brita jug for water in the fridge next to a flavored drink mix solution. I have found that all this makes mornings go smoothly and no stress finding things in a messy cupboard. Butter is in a covered dish next to the toaster, also bread next to that with a knife ready. Hope these tips help !

I have two dogs right now. I love them and I will take care of them until they go but honestly between dog food and vet bills and one that needs to be groomed occasionally I will not be getting more animals after these. My husband passed away 10 months ago and the expense and the responsibility is too much for me.

I grew up with a single mother who worked a job and went back to school so that she could get a better job instead staying in lower paying job. We had some very tough times where things were not easy going, but also had food, clothing and roof over our heads, No we didn’t have latest and greatest toy, clothes we had home made dolls and clothes for them we bought second hand. We did free activities through the public library and took out books to read, we went free events in park around our town, we walked a lot that saved money on gas for the car and reused school supplies, backpacks for years. We learned to drink water. We ate Small meals that were easy to cook lots of casserole’s, crockpot and leftovers

Thank you for sharing this, as I read this, I felt like I was reading about me and my children except I'm that mom. We walk , don't have a car, took them to the library so often we were on first name basis with all the staff etc. I feel like I failed my children often. But reading this from the child point of view , and you don't seem to have anger or upset from growing up... Well it gives me hope mine won't either

Hey Tawra, Jill, and Mike. I been watching a long time and I can honestly say your advice and ideas have changed my life. Our house is now paid off and im getting ready to retire in the spring of 2024. That said, I have to be completely honest and say that I was not looking forward to these audit videos at all. I wasn't sure if I could handle watching a whole show of someone getting taken apart for their poor spending habits. im so sorry I doubted you. Ive been so impressed with the kind and thoughtful evaluations and recommendations you have been sharing. Keep up the great work! Im praying for you and your family as you fine tune your shows and your business. You are making a difference. Thank you!!

You're absolutely correct that pets are expensive! And thanks for recognizing that, for some of us, they're top priority. Besides zero-interest pet credit cards like your guest has, there are different pet health insurance plans & some vet clinics have wellness care plans to help keep costs down & cover emergencies & health problems that may come up. We don't have kids, & I don't view our dogs as our children or "fur babies", but their lives are priceless to me & they keep me active in my retirement (some people work on their golf game or whatever other retirement pursuit--my Border Collies & I compete in sheep herding trials!) I have 3 dogs & yes their vet bills & training & trialing are expensive but well worth it to me for what I get out of it, so, thanks, Living on A Dime, for helping me keep expenses down--no debt or car payments & keeping food cost down so I can afford to spend my retirement doing what I love!

Trained as a hair dresser. I kept my license for years just in case there was a need to go to work. Benefit was I could shop at beauty supply stores for hair products for my girl. Sally's will let you buy there without a license. They have shampoo concentrate for $10 a gallon and gallons of conditioner for close to that price. You can either dilute shampoo per directions or use tiny amount to wash your hair. Nothing fancy, but gets the job done. Lots of other goodies for coloring and Mani/Pedi.

I take care of my older brother and he can go through four cases (24 cans a case) of Diet Coke in one month. I've begged, and I mean literally BEGGED for him to cut back as it's costing us about $50 a month and we just can't afford it, but he fights me on it. I can't find instant tea with aspartame anymore for some reason, and he can't tolerate sucralose. I may have to try the homemade tea in the bottles like you did as a compromise. Thanks for the idea.

I love the sucker jar of jelly. So on the apple candy you ended up making in the jar, you could soak the jar in hot water to loosen the jelly and put it on parchment, maybe cut it up with a hot knife, and maybe melt it in the oven at low temp, 160', then spread it out. Then cut it into pieces with a knife.

It is just my hubby and I and in the last couple years we have really struggled with dialing food WAY too often. Hubby is disabled and can't cook (I mean its physically dangerous for him). I had COVID in 2019 before much was known about it and suffered permanent damage to a nerve that controls what things smell like. Cooking meat smells like rotting meat to me. Water smells like pure chemicals. the list is endless. The result was we dialed food because I just couldn't handle the smell. Then the hubby was forced to retire 4 years early and our income dropped drastically. We just can't afford to keep up with the dialing food stuff. What I have started doing is cooking in BIG batches for about 3 days in the month. Pack it all up into single serving containers and into the freezer it goes. When we need dinner we pull meals and warm them up. That way I am only dealing with serious I don't want to eat because it smells so gross to me for 3 days in the month. We are down to dialing out twice a month now which for us is a HUGE saving. Probably sounds stupid to you all but it has helped.

I kindly wonder if paying for a consult with a dietitian would, in the long run, benefit them. That’s good if he wants to eat grapes because they are good for your heart…but really… you would need to eat a lot to really help your heart-that’s more of a supplement from grape skins. I don’t want to food shame anyone, I don’t always make great choices. But if he has a desire to do things to improve his health, maybe a few classes could help. Great tips so far in trying to replace soda! Loving the new format 😀

My pups are also my ‘hobby’. Right now I’m stretching the sensitive tummy dog pouches with extra beef, chicken and lamb mince (bought on sale when possible). I’ve swapped dental chews from name brand to Aldi and I’m meal planning both pups and my food for the first time (loosely, it’s just me so I do sometimes change something). I bought a soda stream and this week I only bought 4 bottles of drink (iced tea and coke no sugar) and cream for my coffee to last 2 weeks - half the amount. These videos have been so helpful 😀

I found a really easy stovetop jam a few years ago. You can use frozen or fresh of any kind of berries . Easy peasy and takes only 10 minutes. I add some lemon juice and put in an 8-10 ounce canning jar. Last up to 4 months. No pectin. If anyone interested in recipe. Tawra , don’t know if you have similar recipe in your cook books. Have not gone through the whole books yet.

You know this may sound silly but I buy bottle pop because I can put my cap back on it. I drink my soda in ice so one 20 ounce bottle of pop I can get 3-4 drinks from it. So I drink no more than one every other day, sometimes 1 may last 3 days. It still saves me in the long run. Sometimes I may not even drink 3 a week. I also make .my tea homemade flavored with lemon. I have learned if you put your sugar in while its bot , even with Kool.- laid and by the sugar dissolving while its hot it doesn't take as much sugar and taste sweeter .

Use your dining room table to organize your pantry. Keep each section on the table. Take a shelf each day. Then when you get to the baking shelf, the condiments, vegetable shelf, and so on. Take your already stuff that's organized on the table and put it on the shelf. Leave room if you have more stuff while you are organized. It will look like a mess on the table and you'll probably have to eat in the living room. My husband and I cook for the week. One day of cooking or prepping fruit and vegetables for salads, side, snacks. I watch TV or play music on my phone while doing my one day of food prep. A simple slice of chicken, microwave vegetables, and an already cooked potato which you can microwave too. Good luck.......God bless.

I wasn't able to catch the live, but here are some thoughts/suggestions I had while watching. Sweets/Sodas - so addictive and hard to get off! But yes, limit and decrease and I will say that a good electrolyte may help tremendously. As well as drinking water FIRST then if you want a soda, pour some in a glass and drink maybe half the can and save the rest for a little later. pour it over ice that helps too, in my opinion at least for me. Also, the person who is drinking and eating all the sweets has to want to limit or eliminate them just telling them to do it doesn't help. Drinking that much milk is crazy! But I'm not a milk drinker. And if you are drinking 2% or skim you are paying for mostly water. Also, if you eat good fats with your meals like avocado the fat satiates you longer and decreases your sweet cravings. This takes a bit of planning, but I started taking a small cooler with extra water with me when I go on my errands as they are quite a long day. This way I don't spend upwards of almost $3.00 for a drink at a drive through. So, pack your own drinks and snacks!!! I do think they should see if they could find someone to help them organize the kitchen, it would be a lot of help. If they don't go to the store for several months take that money they would have spent and apply it to the credit cards to reduce the debt. Then I strongly suggest they start an emergency fund just for the animals. We did this years ago. If you are going to keep animals it is very helpful. I would also find a vet that might would take payments? probably not too many of those around anymore. :( but I would always tell them upfront how much I could spend or not, always ask if the tests and procedures are ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY at that point because typically, they have an idea, Of course depends on the situation. Pet insurance is a scam, don't do it. Ask if you can treat minimally what they think it is and if no change go from there again, depends on the issue (non emergencies). My older border collie had a stroke 2 weeks ago, there was no reason to do all the testing, mri etc... doesn't change that it was a stroke he is old (14) He is doing great! and I didn't spend a lot of $$ on unnecessary tests. I love my animals! I have many but that said I will only spend so much. I love this format and enjoy the break outs with the samples of meals, etc....even if I get confirmation on things I do and ideas on how to improve what I am currently doing. Love the cookbooks and the years of following you guys. So many little things over the years I have implemented and when you mention something I remember back to when I started making changes. Sorry for the lengthy comment. Maybe one of the suggestions might be helpful. Made the banana bread 2x now since the video a couple weeks ago. I also made cinnamon rolls (a family recipe) but wanted cream cheese frosting and found one in the cookbook (v2) I think, and it was delicious!!!

Around the 1:00 mark on this video you put chicken into a crockpot to cook. It didn’t show you putting any water in, do you cook the chicken without water in crockpot???

There are many ways to improve by reducing things and increasing others. They could make things like freezer sandwiches and grab them before going to an appointment and add some fruits and veggies to create a quick and easy lunch. Be careful with sat fats and sugar as that can turn into more fat. Look into a healthy heart diet online and research new ideas and recipes etc.

I'm absolutely loving this new format & combining so many practical tips & tricks into it from people's actual grocery bills & pantries etc. I'm sure it's a lot of thinking & behind the scenes work for you, Tawra, Mike & Jill, but I'm finding it super helpful! Thank YOU, Pam & your husband, for sharing with us all so we can learn. I pray for the Lord's healing touch into your lives in all areas. 🥰Blessings from South Australia💕🐨PS. Tawra, I sent you a little "God Box" of treats via a KZbin friend of mine in Alaska. Postage from Australia is nuts, so this was my way of helping her as she moves house & blessing you. Enjoy! 🥰
