I think it's great that they are putting the inmates to work on improving campgrounds there. Good for the inmates, and good for the campers.

Yep - One sheriff and about 8 inmates were in that truck cutting trees and making other improvements.

Great find! What's the road like to Lower Sandy? I'm a tent camper and drive just a 2WD passenger car
@LivingOurDreamNow2 жыл бұрын
A two wheel drive car can easily travel the access road into the Lower Sandy Campground. Don't forget the extra campsite I pointed out at the end of the video. Lou

Really cool looking Free campground. Oh my, yes, the trees are VERY tall.!! and I cant believe that one was 680 yrs old...So wild!! Alot of trees were down, or leaning over and stuck on other trees. It looks kinda dangerous to walk or drive under them. The campground was nice, didnt seem to have a lot of sites. But there was quite a few campers there tho. Beautiful views, and the lake is huge. I would really love to fish there. I noticed on the information sign, not to go near the Loon Platforms ?! They have Loons on that lake? Wow, I love hearing Loons! Did you hear any while visiting there? Awsome! Loved the video! Thanks, Vicky

And my response is: What is a loon? Guess I'll have to look that up. As always, thanks for the detailed comments. You really do keep me on my toes. Lou

Hi thanks so much for posting this detailed video! Are 4-legged friends allowed at this campsite? I saw y'all had a pup but wondering if you saw any official signage while there. Thanks again!

Very nice! What, if any, safety precautions do you use for possible wildlife (bears, mountain lions) encounters? I know about bear spray and bear-proof lockers, but only in a superficial way. I've much to learn, and far more confidence to gain for situations like that. Any tips, advice. resources you can share? Thanks!

Hi Gwen - Melody and I carry bear spray when hiking in bear country. I've had several completely unexpected encounters with black bears. I had thought a personal sidearm would provide last resort bear protection, but back in West Virginia I had a Black Bear tower over me at 6 plus feet on his hind legs. After that encounter, I bought the bear spray. :)

@@LivingOurDreamNow Wow, Lou! Looks like you've got several stories to tell, LOL! Yep, bear spray appears to be the way to go. I even had a ranger tell me that guns are not the best protection against a bear -- they can take a shot(s) and keep charging; but bear spray stops them in their tracks. Bear spray is what he recommends. Poor bear, but better him/her than me, yeah? I have watched a couple of videos on how to use the bear spray, but didn't gain enough confidence from watching them to overcome my doubt. Oh, let me be honest and just call it what it is: terror! I'm trying to convince myself that it's an irrational fear, however, I left the Asheville bear encounters, an actual attack. Oh my! Wasn't good! Seems the bears are getting to where they no longer fear humans. Given that they, can run faster than us, can swim and climb trees, for sure, I'm gonna have to get pretty handy with the spray. Quick Draw McGraw! And to make matters even more interesting, I just read last week about pythons becoming rampant in FL. Oh, great! Just in time for my new adventures in free camping. Pythons and gators! (Do know that I'm mostly poking fun at myself. But still...) Happy Travels! And thanks for the feed back. (Excuse the long post.)

If there is a tent on the site marker doesn't that mean tent only? Nice videos thank you I am a new subscriber and I live in this area. You are showing me the way. =)
