Growing up, my dad was a farmer and we basically grew everything we ate, other than the meat dad got from hunting and fishing. It is devastating when there were weather issues that meant a small harvest at most or when animals had accidents or health problems. So much work goes into farming but there are no guarantees of a harvest even when everything looks so good almost to the end. Tornados, hail and floods can wipe it all out in an instant. Folks who don't realize that benefit so much from a video like this one. Your garden looked so beautiful and everything seemed great until you shared todays news. My heart breaks for you and all the farmers around the globe who are having such a difficult time and no relief in sight. Thankfully, we can trust that The Lord knows our needs and will provide. I sure wished I could make things better for you! I have to be honest, I watch your video's, and often they keep my hopes up because, everything that you are going through, we have been there for the last couple of years. So, maybe this is how we encourage each other. Our fall garden last year, and spring garden this year. failed.. What tomatoes I got on the vines were swiftly taken by the critters. I said well, the blessing is that we are here in Florida, and we can start all over. I got my tomatoes restarted and I probably would have put them in the ground this weekend...Except...what the squirrels didn't pull up, the Sandhill Cranes did. And what was left from there, the leaf miners got.. Well, what shall we do, give up? I always remind myself that the rain will return, and even when our grass looked like yours, I thanked God for the rain because I knew He would send it. When God says you are an overcomer, you are. Sometimes I think, when everything has failed, the difference is- we still get up, put on our britches, and go mow the dead grass!

30+ yrs of homesteading has taught me that if every year were the same, and every crop could be counted on to produce, it would be so easy that everyone would be doing it. We are in S. Central OK, where we are in exceptional drought, and on day 42 of 100+ temps; the rain just keeps missing us. Not the first year like this, and likely not the last; altho, the number of dead seed we planted this year is perplexing. We use drip irrigation, too, and years like this it runs 12-24 hours, every other day. Tho many crops didn't make at all, the ones we can keep alive, we will, hoping for fall harvests. Meanwhile, we continue to pray for rain and coolers temps for all of us. Good luck!

I understand your distrust of the government. But if you think about it the reason WHY the government isn't doing anything about climate change is because they're paid by the coal and oil industries so they can keep making profit while we pump the atmosphere with so much CO2. think about it. how many MILLIONS OF YEARS did it take to make all that coal and oil? Now imagine ALL of those dead bodies (cuz that's what oil is compressed dead organic matter) rotting all at once in 100 years. Its maddening. The government isn't all powerful. The real conspiracy is the corporations. And guess who else is buying up the small farms??? corporations. And guess who's trying to force the population to increase for their endless labor supply (because if you force people to have kids they don't want they end up unable to care for them. Poverty leads to desperation.Desperation leads to crime. Crime leads to prison. And prison is the ONLY legal form of slave labor in the USA). Follow the money. Not the politicians. Many of our farmers and homesteaders are having so much trouble with heat and lack of rain. My heart goes out to all. Here in Michigan we've had lack of rain, heat and Japanese beetles. I've been watering by hand twice a day, taking 4-5 hours. We finally invested in some soaker hoses that has saved me a lot of time. Our fruit trees are struggling also. When I planned and planted my garden, people told me that the shade from the neighbors pine trees would inhibit growth of my plants. Turned out to be a Godsend. The cabbage and squash love it in this heat. Because we were enlarging the garden and had many setbacks such as snow in May, heat, finances to purchase extra soil etc, I was 3-4 weeks behind getting everything planted. My tomatoes are slowly just coming on. And the Abe Lincolns are absolutely delicious! So are the sweetheart cherry tomatoes. I'm just praying the green bean tunnel plants blossom and produce. I lost most of my onions due to operator error. But I learned what not to do. Thank you for sharing real life on the homestead. This will most likely happen to most of the cattle in our country because what I have heard was that the areas that produce most of the beef are hardest hit by the drought this year. Unfortunately, this will continue into next year because most of the breeding cows will probably have to be processed. Wishing your family the best.

I hope by now you've received some of the rain. I'm north of you about 150 miles and we've received a couple of good rains. Definitely praying for you and others suffering in the drought. 💜

I’m so sorry for the challenges you’re coping with now. I appreciate you sharing, this reality check is helpful to those who aspire to have a larger homestead. Sending rainy prayers heavenward for you. Keep the faith, there are good things to come.

Love that you guys are showing the reality, risks and need for preparing for the worst as best you can. Not surprised about the greenhouse thieves, I'm sure food is scarce everywhere even for wildlife with the drought and heat.

Y'all remind me of the farmer who won a million dollar lottery. When asked what he's going to do with his winnings, he answered that he's gonna keep farming till it's all gone. Praying for rainy days soon! 🙏🙏 Love you & your channel. 💕

We have been through droughts like this. One year, we had no rain from mid-June until late September. Temps were over 100 every day. Not only did the pastures burn up, the trees were severely damaged. Thank you for bringing these conditions to your KZbin followers.

I know you're in Missouri. (I'm in Missouri too.). I remember 6 or 7 years ago when we had another drought like this that threatened livestock. The governor opened the state's parks for grazing, allowing farmers to move their herds to "greener pastures." I'm just a little bit north of Kansas City. Northern Missouri has been lucky. It's been hot but we had plenty of rain. (It's the Ozarks the burned up this year. The rest of Missouri is green.) Ya'll down in the Ozarks need to petition Gov. Parson for some relief. He'll probably do it since he's a farmer too and has a lot of cattle in Bolivar, MO, that are suffering too. 😀

Love you two and your honesty about farming, and food preservation - My Husband and I started out 44 years ago on a 100 yr. old farmstead on 10 Ac. Like you, we started a greenhouse, sold bedding plants, and sold veggies at the farmers market. We also commercially grew cauliflower and broccoli for two seasons for Control Data. Then we started a small Christmas tree farm on our property and sold trees for nearly 20 years and produced fresh Christmas wreaths, garland (5 1/2 mi.) in our hayday. Did both retail and wholesale for 30 + years. So, when I watch you, I certainly relate to our lives here in MN. My Husband is a landscaper by trade and is still working at age 69 and we work our garden together. So sorry to see the devastation due to the drought. Yes, woodchucks will destroy crops and raspberries. Raccoons have ruined our sweet corn crop this year and I am so disappointed as we don't have corn for the year now. Keep the faith, you will get through these tough times, even when all seems lost. God bless!

I'm glad you keep it real. People need to realize that the weather has been causing smaller yields over the course of the last few years, here and around the world. There are shortages because of this. People really should be growing as much of their food as they can. The farmers are not in the position to do it. You can't fight the weather.

I love the reality of how it really is farming. Farmers are not appreciated like they should be. They are the ones that feed the people. I’ve always been appalled at how hard it is to be a farmer yet are so under paid. God bless you during this hard time. I pray you get rain soon. We here in Idaho are in terrible drought conditions too! May our gardens grow enough to feed our families. Love you two! Keep your chins up and press on.

I find her shirt ---> "Set your mind on things above. Not earthly things", Hypocritical. Climate change and global warming is real and MISSOURI voted against doing anything about it.... now reap what you sow. You have destroyed your children's future.

We are from the Bootheel and haven't been hit quite as hard by the drought, since we get a stray shower here and there but we have definately been feeling the effects here as well. We have been blessed to be able to get an ok corn harvest this year and still have green melon vines but everything else has either died or is on its last leg here. Your family is in our thoughts and prayers and we hope some rain will make it your way. Keep your heads held high.

We prayed for you tonight. Droughts are so hard to go through. We had one here in south eastern WI in 2012. We are dairy farmers and reduced our heard, and still bought hay to get through. God is faithful and we enjoy your channel so much!

Thank You for sharing the good AND bad. I appreciate your transparency. I'm in the desert side of Washington State...and we are in triple digit heat...110-115 for the last week. My garden looks like yours...and the realization I cant do any more to help the plants has set in. I can only water so much with irrigation before the plants drown!! The tomatoes all have sun scald...and the vines have been stressed badly enough they succumbed to the vine borer. I am going to plant a few cuke's zucchini, and beans....when they mature, it should be cooler....I HOPE!!! I guess it's just 'one of those years', isnt it?? I am really sorry about Donna...that's a real setback. Let's keep one another in PRAYER!!!

So sorry about the hard luck these last few weeks. I pray every day for rain for our farmers and ranchers. I'll add you all to the list. This is going to be a bad winter if this continues. I keep Ava on my weather app and I see u might get some rain in the next two days. I pray it hits your area. Also the temps are falling below the triple digits which is a blessing. I am so sorry about Donna. I know you were depending on each pig to be able to breed and produce. I know Texas is just burning up and that Danny has lost all of this years Danny Corn. My prayers go out to all farmers that must depend on the weather. May God keep your spirits up.
