I am in my 60s as a kid my job was hand milking two cows every morning. Yes we separated the Calves at night, But we also played relaxing music in the barn when we milked you’d be surprised a relaxed cow will give you more milk.

From the consensus here, as well as my childhood on a dairy farm where we did play music for the cows, I'd say bovine respond to deep/low notes. Like the ones they make themselves! 💖

I understand all this, but one question. How did Babe or Rose react through the night? I lived on a dairy farm and the cows and calves would cry all night when first separated. And this would go on for several days. I wish you would have recorded them on and off overnight.
@gilliegilbert3353

@@ginamh8276 from the video they were only separated by a gate so they could see each other and even touch. It seemed they were perfect. I grew up on a dairy farm as well I know we took the calf away right away. So I know the bellowing all-night thing.. But they didn't seem to be the case where they could still be in close contact.

I loved seeing this day of animal chores and all the updates. Duck noises & mannerisms are so pleasant, can't blame you for wanting more ducks. When watering. Never dunk your water tanks into the supply. It infects the entire water supply with anything that might be on the surface. Minor issue but it is a "best Practice" around the farm.

Milking Trick: I learned this from another homestead: they were experiencing the same thing and found that their cow would hold on to the milk for the calf by only dropping some of her milk. When they let the calf milk for a few minutes the cow dropped down the rest of the milk. They pulled the calf away and starting milking again and got gallon of milk then they let the calf have her go.

It is very apparent that Rose and Babe have full trust in Kevin and Sarah. Mom didn't bawl and Babe thought she was in Heaven with her full belly and soft resting place in the shade of the hay bin. Wonderful day...we are small scale homesteading...spent yesterday canning green beans from our garden and we are now doing turkeys...bourbon red, heritage bronze and Narragansetts. Just hatched 4 eggs yesterday and have two hens sitting...people are paying good money for turkeys, chickens, rabbits, goats...anything that can be used for food...so I love watching turkeys and our chickens...and hoping to get a little help on cost of feeding them by sale...we added brahma chickens to our flock...decided (for us), to raise this breed as it was mainly bred as a meat chicken. Instead of getting the cornish cross twice a year and putting 20 of them in the freezer...our plans are to raise and hatch out this breed and harvest as we want a couple days ahead...may plan to go back and do some CornishX but for right now, we are trying raising turkeys and a meat type of bird. Sadly, our rabbits had 12 kits and all died...first time for that...we got 15 last season and they were all put in our freezer...this time, I wanted to harvest some and sell some, but I think our heat was just too much...we were late breeding this year due to our crazy weather...will try again this fall...All your animals are adorable! That's one of the gifts of homesteading...love raising the animals! God Bless!

Thank you so much for showing us all the animals! Babe was so chill! You opened the gate for him to come out in the morning and he was, “Naw I’m good”. Rose was more interested in seeing him than he was in seeing her. The baby ducks are huge! Tex is the most chill bull. He even came up for you to scratch his head. The rabbits were cute but if you don’t need them you have plenty of cute animals to look at. The baby pigs were so polite when they stepped back to let you pour their food in the trough. Charlie was kinda “piggy” when it came to his breakfast. Glad you’re gonna get a couple more lady pigs for Charlie. He will be appreciative too. Really enjoyed the tour of all your animals!
