Lauren, I've been subbed for a looking time. I'm very happy for your progress, but what about your followers who can't afford keto? I'm in a really scary place where I'm about to be homeless and loose my mess. What advice do you have for us who have nothing? You have KZbin money, and live in Canada. A lot of people who watch you don't. Tbh I haven't been able to make it to the end of your recent videos. I fear your content is becoming irrelevant to a lot of your viewers. You made your channel to help and share, and you have helped me educate my family about my illness by sharing your videos. And I will always be grateful. But I am struggling bad. I don't have any money to go keto. Please take this into consideration. Please help us again. Not to be rude, but these videos come off as almost bragging. Maybe your next video can be directed to your audience that is still struggling and has no money. What do we do? Sorry if I came off rude. But I just simply can no longer relate to your content.

Just be careful as you go off meds. My son has had schizoaffective disorder for 30 years. His doctors have titrated him off all meds in between episodes. He has had 2 years to 5 years in between episodes, having no symptoms and has avoided too much weight gain from the meds that way. But as he has gotten older, he has been unable to get off meds without a rebound episode. So his doctor put him on a continuous low dose in the hopes he can avoid another episode. We enjoy your videos, my son is trying Keto with his doctor, but since he has no symptoms it is hard to tell it's effect. We really hope your success is permanent, but be aware there are some people who have long periods of remission, symptom free and then rebound. Good luck we will pray for you.

Keep in mind some people may have to be on meds for the rest of their lives for these conditions. Everyone's demons are different, even if their diagnosis is the same. But there are those who can "conquer" their illness, however it never goes away, if and when a person makes it to this point, it becomes a gift rather than a curse. Meaning to embrace it as something not to fear, and respect it.

I have a question for you. I know you have your family but, do you ever feel lonely without the voices. I know I struggle with that when I take my meds as prescribed. That is sometimes a barrier to taking my meds.

If you don't realize that people with severe mental illness are human, I think you have deeper issues than a channel like this can address. I've always appreciated Lauren sharing the ins and outs of living with her condition and have learned a lot about various coping skills, daily management, and how to best support someone struggling with her particular illness, but never did I once think she was "bad, scary, selfish," etc. just because she had it. Not seeing those with mental illness as human isn't "stigma." It's just plain evil.

She was in a really bad way, and I had no way of learning what became of her. I found your channel while looking for insight into the condition so that I might be a better friend to her. I felt a lot of empathy for you--and respect for your bravery and resourcefulness in presenting your situation in a realistic yet positive way. I felt I could detect a subtle quiver in your voice and sense the weight of what you were dealing with. I found your situation so moving, heroic and compelling. I have suffered from the same kind of delusional thinking that you described when taking the eye exam. After informing my doctor why I decided to stop a certain medication (beecause I started having auditory hallucinations after taking it) she had me talk to two guys, and I was convinced they were gonna lock me up and do testing on me or something, so I told them that I never actually heard anything, I was probably just sleep deprived, etc. So in the end I didn't get to the bottom of why I was hearing things (long after stopping the medication, years later, I still have auditory hallucinations btw) and I wasn't able to get the help I probably need. Also, antipsychotics scare me because they make you gain weight and I'm already extremely self conscious of my weight and have moderation/control issues when eating. If only I could give up alcohol, I would be willing to try medical keto but as it is, I'm an addict. Thank you for the inspiration, the informative content, and keep up the good work!

And how about fermented butter which has dark yellow color? 2. In primitive societies, a person with such condition would train his mind and spirit with a master. In few years would recover and be able to develop mentally and spiritually. What's your opinion on this. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and I hope you continue recovering.

Also, do you have any plans to write a book, detailing chronologically how it started, what you went through, and where you are now. Including your keto diet: how you started, what you ate, exercise, etc. I think the keto is great, but I would imagine there is more you’ve done during this time in your life that has also helped. Spirituality? Socializing? Music changes? Movie changes? What you read?

Caffeine intake? Any nicotine? Completely sober? Any AA meetings? How often is therapy? A regular therapist or a psychologist? Volunteer work? Causes supporting?

So I spoke with my personal psychiatrist today and also took part in a webinar put on by the University of Toledo and someone came up with a question about the ketogenic diet. The US psychiatrist said that it had been used effectively for very young patients who had seizures, and that the diet helps deal with neuro plasticity issues. He also said that schizophrenia has a metabolic component and that the keto diet targets that. He even said that when the young patients were taken off the diet, many of them didn't go back to having symptoms. This is really interesting news to me and it is also something that I feel i have to strongly apologize for because up until today I only saw a great deal of risk involved with keto because my mom (who had a severe mental illness) tried many diets to no avail. I hope this diet does end up working for Lauren, but I still have some information that I feel should be considered. I still think people need to be aware of how difficult it can be to stick to the keto diet and that you have to be really dedicated to it. As mentioned, it just may help people with schizophrenia even after it is stopped, but when you stop it there is a risk of severe weight gain. One of my other arguments against the keto diet is that there have been no completed randomized control studies to support the claims many have made, but there are some now in progress, so the jury is still out. I also wanted to mention that I spoke to my psychiatrist about keto today and she said without a doubt, absolutely, definitely keto is not a cure for schizophrenia. But the doctor from Toledo seemed hopeful. In the end, Lauren is a pretty brave person to risk all she has done to support something that may or may not be 100% ideal for her health and could so easily lead to liability. As a closing note, the US doctor from Toledo also said that just about everyone with schizophrenia who live to a ripe old age will experience non-alzheimer's dementia. I recently saw my Dad decline and then pass away due to dementia and it is a cruel bitch of a way to go. Although I am not at that point yet, if I could avoid ending my life with dementia I'm just about willing to try keto--but I'm not there yet. I would like to reiterate that I am very sorry I have been so skeptical and critical of Lauren,, but I do still hope that Lauren and those who follow her channel can find solace in the ketogenic diet. And I do want to reiterate also that I hope Lauren sees the value in writing a book about her experience. I will certainly read it. I'm cheap though so I'm going to wait until it gets to the library.

I have no personal stake in this debate myself, as a schizophrenic who’s been taking abilify for over a decade now, and who has improved a lot during that period of time. But to get to your points about the overall safety, or cost/benefit analysis everyone has to consider before jumping into the medical keto: My gut feeling is if it works for you long term, that’s great. Personally, as long as I have been living with my mental illnesses, I have been incapable of losing weight. Ever since I was about 22 (I am 35 now), I’ve been carrying an extra 35-40 pounds of belly fat. I think it’s a very crucial, and important detail that you wrote in your comment above, that if someone who has schizophrenia attempts the ketogenic diet, but then goes off of it, then they will most likely gain, or regain their weight…even additional weight! Obviously, not everyone is able to handle such a diet long term, or for the rest of their life. I think a lot of our struggles as schizophrenics have to do with the long standing social stigma that we still face…case in point: I have had to learn the hard way that I can’t always be 100% honest with others and let them know that I have this disease. In conclusion: like I said at the beginning, new approaches like this medical keto and the ketogenic diet are definitely worth a try. As I learn more about them, I may even consider asking my own doctor to give me the green light on experimenting with them… Abilify isn’t for every schizophrenic; just as what Lauren has tried aren’t for every schizophrenic, either. Thanks for the thought provoking discussion.

@@DyarContreras unfortunately this really isn't a debate, I posted a reply to you and it was deleted. I had a look at youtube guidelines and I didn't violate any so I really don't know what to say. I don't even disagree with the content on this channel and my posts have been deleted a few times with no reason given. To me that is enough reason to not direct anyone to this channel, it simply shows one viewpoint and censors all others. Its surprising because one of the reasons this channel is so popular is that Lauren comes across as caring and helpful. Having my posts deleted kind of irks me. I also wonder just how much money is made from videos. When I met Lauren at my work years ago she was making minimum wage and getting disability as I was, now she has a house, two new cars and kids to feed. I am the first to admit her success is well deserved and I don't fault her or her husband for providing for their family but I'm pretty wary about donating or supporting someone who doesn't allow free and fair debate. The channel hasn't really been about schizophrenia for some time. It is really important to try keto and document the results. It seems to be working, but my opinion is that what people with schizophrenia need is survival skills and people to advocate for them and for stigma to be reduced and awareness to be increased. With one in ten people with schizophrenia dying by suicide, it seems a bit cold to use their vulnerability for gain.

hypomania triggered by diet can look like ”sudden better health” the most obvious symptom to me was: Inner shift and change in ”my personality” and my thinking was clear, ”self-aware”, present and focused and not ”typical hypomania” or mania due to keto… so keep in mind that the bipolar on keto can come out different than you are used to ❤ episodes can last forever aswell, it becomes the ”new normal”…. It took 2 years for my psychiatrists to understand i was in a long episode and not symptom free and healthier than ever 😱 Nowadays i can manage this better but i need to focus on ”underactive and boring life” compared to when i have meds aswell, cannot even take a powerwalk every day, it’s way too triggering/stimulating… please be careful and question every ”inner change/shift” you might notice ❤️🙏🏻

if you feel comfortable, could you day more about the negative effect on your life through experiencing the hypomania for 2 years? since it took that long for your psychiatrist to notice?
@saraj.96132 ай бұрын
@@TheRosemaryWest being in the episode was fine, I thought I lived my best life, I sounded like some sort of highly aware guru, people was so impressed and inspired by my change 😱🤷🏻♀️ it was when it escalated to mania and then mixed and then down into depression and I could not relate at all to my two ”awesome” years and had to mourn that I had been ill and not myself I really struggled, I really thought I finally was healthy and happy and could function well… it took 3,5 years to really recover and I lost grey brain matter during my ”up”… my executive and cognitive functions are worse now… the keto/carnivore diet is awesome but the persons mental illnesses need to be extra observed because it is so hard to tell if the positive changes are only better health or a combo of better health + hypomania (full blown mania is way easier for psychiatrists to notice). I am more used to manic episodes so hypomanias are like something else to me… manias are always negative and I lose functions (and have psychotic symptoms), so I never thought my ”awesome” highly functioning (compared to what I am used to) period could be my bipolar…

Does "sudden better health" look and feel different to you each time you describe it?
@DannyD-lr5ygАй бұрын
@@TheRosemaryWestYeah it kinda sounds to me like Sara was genuinely doing much better, but then after a couple years something triggered a manic episode. I’m not understanding the justification for why she’s considering the 2 years to be an abnormally long and unrecognizable hypomanic episode that evolved into mania, instead of 2 years of happiness and remission before a relapse..

Incredible!!!! How quickly you felt better! The first thing keto did was make the world feel real again, no more derealization/feeling everyday was virtual. That didn't happen until 2 months into keto and it just clicked one day that this reality is real. First I hated it but now I grieve the years I lived life believing it was virtual. I realize now how that impacted my choices. This video explains and answers questions super well. What an interesting eye exam theory!!! Happy you have new awakenings in addition to capacities. That Latuda didn't seem to help you much 😢You must be so EXCITED to stop it!!! I'm exhausted with my slow taper of olanzapine where I still experience strong withdrawal. Psychiatrist isn't helpful but she doesn't look into keto/anything I send her. I don't like her approach to my issues but maybe she'll be more helpful at some point. Meanwhlie, I miss the better days on keto, not yet 100% confident until I understand this withdrawal.

I had no idea that paranoia would effect the results of an eye test. But the way you explain it makes sense. Eye doctors should be made aware of this.

Love love love all of your videos ❤ Just thought I’d share that I too have “cheated” in eye exams! 😂 although for a different reason (my parents had terrified me into thinking that being prescribed glasses was the worst thing ever…so as a child I would memorise the order of all the letters when they were presented to my right eye which had good vision, so I could recite them when they tested my left eye which is severely myopic) 😅

Next step is scientists tracing the different phenotypes of schizophrenia and find the best way to treat each one specifically. Your type is probably not exclusively yours.

I think that's something important to keep in mind, especially for the folks that want to go on about "but you might experience symptoms again in the future if you get off psych meds"....... she was experiencing symptoms WHILE on the psych drugs, maybe it was more dampened or controlled in some ways but the fact is, psych meds did not eliminate her symptoms anyways. So even if things change in the future, it's still worth it now for the genuine freedom and peace it brings, right? And you can readjust for your needs down the line if need be

You are an inspiration to many. ❤ I was wondering if you plan on going off keto at some point as know it's not recommended to be done indefinitely. Have your doctors suggested a plan whereby you stop for a few weeks and then get back on it?
