You are a great jaguar detective and a generous friend of fellow Jaguar owners. That couple was lucky to have you nearby to troubleshoot and fix their gorgeous car. Well done.

Was there ever a more beautiful car than the Jaguar XK150? Not to mind. Simply a stunning vehicle.

Points Gap, condenser, ignition issues. So much knowledge and experience just slowly fading into the back ground.

Good work Adam,a couple for points to note for future reference see what I did there ! 1.health of the condenser cand be checked by looking at the colour of the face of the points if it's starting to go blue that is a sure sign that the condenser is on its way out. 2. The low tension supply lead that runs from the bolt terminal on the side of the distributor to the points gives no end of trouble in later life. Hope this might be of use to you.

One would be surprised what a faulty condenser can do with starting and running! Our '52 XK120 FHC uses an electronic ignition in the stock distributor, sure makes a world of difference in running. Great call, Adam! Glad your fellow Jag owners got home safely later that night! Thanks!

I follow several automotive youtube channels. It is amazing the number of defective new parts that are found. Hydraulic lifters are one of the main suspects. Nice find on the condenser! That takes an old school person to recognize.

Great work, love the look of engine bay. Last time I saw xk was at Jag show at Coventry, They look even better than an E-type.

That's interesting. We have a 1998 Volvo 940, which we've owned from new. When it's cold the engine is fine, but when it gets warm, it has a miss. It's only really noticeable when idling, the revs will dip every 4th beat or so - difficult to describe. I had guessed it was a CPS / HT lead issue (it's on Bosch and should be Bougicord) but wonder if it might be the distributor. Hmm. XK150, btw, probably my favourite Jag ever..!

as an owner of a '67 MK2, the XK150 is one of my all-time favorites! love everything about them. sort of the "better" sibling... you know, like Jeff Bridges is to Beau and Dennis Quaid to Randy. :) when i get my mk2 back from the engine rebuilder$ (a 3000 mile cross country trip exposed an undisclosed prior-to- purchase cracked block!), i plan in installing a 123ignition in it. i have a lot of confidence in them, as i recently installed one in my 53 TD and the car, although running very well before the installation, runs demonstratively better now, smoother at speed and idle AND starts faster too! BTW, i'm sort of surprised it starts at all sans choke.

You can start and SU car without choke with light fast taps of the accelerator. It’s not ideal but it works. The XK150 is my favorite too! I prefer them to E-types. Feel a lot more “special”

Mt father had an XK150 3.8 S Drophead Coupe, 1 of only 69 original right-hand drive examples, it ended up in Northern Ireland around 1984.

Those XJ120,140, 150's are so beautiful, I think they are more so than the XKE. BTW, I must tell you a XJ6 story. My daughter visits my home area once or twice a year and I let her drive the Jag XJ6. It's a pretty blue colour and the license plate reads FAY 201, and Fay is her middle name. Well she loves the car, and all the attention it receives, I suppose it doesn't hurt that she is an attractive young lady. Well she says she loves the car, and it get's all this attention from these men, the trouble is, she says, "the men are too old" Haha, haha.

I had the same problem i 69 e-type roadster. The car broke down several times. After different mechanics and time spent, the problem was solved. It was the new rotor.!! Never trusting new parts again. It had a microscopic crack, almost invisible. So much headache for such a cheap part....

Well caught! Zeroing in immediately on the cause of an intermittent problem gives a nice warm glow, doesn't it? Testing a condenser's function takes a bit of effort, doesn't it?

The way he described it to me over the phone it felt like condenser or coil. When it got to my place I noticed how it would misfire above idle it narrowed it down to probably condenser.

A faulty coil is annoying because it can stop working when it heats up just when you are a few miles from home !

I thought if the condenser didn’t work it would be an overheating coil.

That was my second go to and why I sent him away with a spare coil. Normally I’d want to keep a car like this one and try it over a few days but they needed to drive home

That distributor is from the dark ages , if it's a Lucus it's from Noahs day, why not replace it with an electronic ignition.
