Extremely helpful!! I have seen this for awhile. I have one going into 4th grade, I think he is ready to concentrate and use this to his best ability starting now. Thank you very much!!

This is the best curriculum. I have learned SO much as too as I have watched the videos with my kids each week and editing their papers. Great job breaking it down for those who are hesitant.

This was the most helpful IEW video that I’ve watched. Thank you for breaking down each unit and how they build off of each other. We are currently trialing the 3 free weeks. Fix It! Grammar is definitely being added to our homeschool next year. The SS videos are quite long and I’m really contemplating just doing the theme based units. Funny enough, this is very similar to how I was taught to write growing up in a private school. But, Andrew does a fantastic job explaining the concepts (and with humor) so I’m not sure I’ll be as engaging for my kids 😂

At any point in the program, do they learn to write without a resource text? Do they learn to write from their own thoughts?
@LivingWithEve19 күн бұрын
There are a few weeks where they create their own outline. They also have research papers that they teach there they do their own research.

Hi! Do you suggest this curriculum for a 5 and 6 year old or would this be better to introduce a little later?

Their PAL program is great. I unsure it for my three oldest.

This video could not have come at a better time for me! I am almost convinced that we need to switch to IEW. My son really struggles with creative writing. TGTB is not cutting it for us anymore. We both are tired of it and I see a creative writing hole in his education. The only question that I have is: If I use Structure & Style for Student and Fix it Grammar, is that a comprehensive Language Arts curriculum? Do I need to cover any other bases? I really appreciate your videos!
@LivingWithEve Жыл бұрын
That’s great!!! Yes fFix it Grammar and Structure and style make a complete language arts with the exception of spelling. They do have Phonics Zoo that you can use for that. Other than that… complete.

@@LivingWithEve I was going to ask this same question! Do you feel that a 6th grader would need to add spelling? What about literature?
@lucysimons9896 Жыл бұрын
@@LivingWithEve Awesome! Thank you! We already do spelling and literature studies separately, so it sounds like we're ready to make the switch!

I’m so close to committing to IEW for my middle schooler next year. The only thing stopping me at this point is the videos. My son doesn’t love to watch videos for school. How long does it take to complete a daily lesson for structure and style 1B? How long are the videos?
@boogsassy1 Жыл бұрын
My daughter hates watching videos too. We do 20 minutes for 3 days, that gets us through each week. It's a short enough time she doesn't completely have a meltdown 😅
@LivingWithEve Жыл бұрын
The video total is 45 - 1 hour each but they break it down into two days. But the three days can work too.

@@LivingWithEve If you don’t kind me asking another question… what is the time commitment for Mom/Teacher if we chose the themed based books instead. I don’t mind being hands on but I also have other younger kids that need a little more of me.

Have you used phonetic zoo. I have a poor speller (5th grade) I like the idea of audio to aiding in the lessons but not sure.

This was extremely helpful! I am diving into IEW writing with my oldest next year (8th & 6th). Right now, I am trying to decide if I am going to go with Structure and Style/videos OR pick a theme and teach them myself. Both have special needs and I am a bit worried about the videos because I have heard they are long and I am concerned that my kids won't tolerate that well. Any thoughts? I am very excited to use this with my kids. My oldest did Fix it grammar this year and that went well.
@diannaannette6956 Жыл бұрын
Would you recommend using a grammer program first or does it not matter when IEW is introduced? Also, is there a teacher guide for the theme based?
@LivingWithEve Жыл бұрын
There is a teachers guide for the theme-based writing curriculums. You can use Fix-it grammar alongside any of the IEW writing programs. That will cover all of your grammar.

What I can’t figure out is if the program teaches the same concept every single course, especially once you get to the 9 units. If so, do you really need a 9 unit course every single year?
@LivingWithEve Жыл бұрын
It’s part of the spiral learning process and repetition. Even though it repeats, it still builds from year to year.

Do they learn about how to do a research paper at some point?
@LivingWithEve Жыл бұрын
A full paper, not in middle school. I’m not sure about High School.
