I think before going out on the water it’s best to check the conditions, if things change while you’re out at sea you have to be able to cope. A good captain is always well prepared.

Some of these guys need to learn how to run a boat, dangerous to say the least.
@billfletcher5495 Жыл бұрын
I run a 46 ft trawler alone mostly on the west coast. We don’t have nearly as many go fast type boats with clueless operators thankfully. The 4 and 5 outboards are just ridiculous. These are the same guys who drive too fast on the freeway and are generally disrespectful to others in their everyday lives.

With all the boat demos I have done in the past, that angry captain is driving his first boat he has never ever owned a boat is my guess. Seeing the power cable still coiled up in the bow along with other boating products is a tell tale sign he is new. Nothing is stowed away. He is mad at the camera because he feels he is being embareassed intentionally in the public eye. We had a similar capt who chose NOT to do the demo on a 40' Trojan motor yacht before taking ownership of the boat. He ran it up on the rocks 1 week later and tried to blame it on us for not showing him how to work the boat and also tried to warranty the damage. This was not the first time a new boater owner new to boating has damaged their own boat and tried to blame it on us and claim warranty on it.

Midnight Express Captain is a newbie and doesn't understand getting up and planing; let alone having his VHF antennas folded down which greatly reduces transmitting effectiveness. Hopefully he'll learn by doing or a friend might clue him in. 😎

Quick question... Why do all the commenters call the boat skipper a 'captain'? Being a 'Captain' is a qualification, not just the title of a person driving a boat. Unless they have been through proper, certified training and are qualified 'Captains', they shouldn't be afforded that title.
@DaveHill-fx4uh Жыл бұрын

Agreed, to have the title captain, you have to earn it, otherwise you may be no more than the driver, not pilot or skipper. If you buy an aeroplane that doesn't make you a captain.

A Mercury Verado 400 costs around 35k. Engines alone cost 175k plus taxes, not including the hull and electronics. I bring this up because if you're investing that much in engines, you must have a love for speed. However, it's surprising to see that many people don't prioritize training for handling these boats. Despite the fact that most manufacturers in Florida offer training as part of the boat purchase, many buyers seem to neglect this crucial aspect.

First boat was brand spanking new. He was still breaking the motors in- running at idle speed for the first 4 hours or so, then varying the rpm's, keeping them under 4000 for the next 4 hours. You have to do that if you want your warranty to stay valid. And yes, the computers built into the motors keep track of it.

Did like the Pursuit docking window, placed in just the right place for passengers to stand in front of it. The boat yards around Haulover must make a fortune from flooded boats. Trucks in London, UK. are now fitted with glass panels on the passenger side, so the driver can see stupid cyclist undertaking on the nearside. The also have turn signal horns, so if a cyclist gets knocked over it's their fault.
@Aereaux Жыл бұрын
Every other Midnight Express boat that goes thru Haulover does it at a pretty good speed. This capitan thinks that slow is better and you can see how poor the ride is. Not very smart.
