Lizard Cam is an As Seen on TV borescope, or "Micro-Inspection Cam." I put it to the test with the help of a couple of experts. Thanks to Justin and Ivan for their help!

I was a jet engine mechanic in the Air Force and we used borescopes. I have actually purchased a few for the Air Force and the ones we bought cost several thousand dollars and you had complete control of the tip with a remote control. Crystal clear view. Reverse the screen. Take pictures. Measure defects. Etc.

Love the intro! The Lizard Cam has potential, but the blurry screen and lack of stability were the two notable cons. These particular shortcomings do not justify the $40 price tag. If these were improved, the product would definitely be worth its cost. Though, like Justin said, "It does work." Great video, dad.

I work as a auto mechanic and every shop ive worked at has a bore scope. its not this brand of course but this technology has been around for along time. it works great to see build up in the motor or if you want to save time for a tear down and want to easily prove failure to a warranty Inspector so they approve the new enginge for the customer.

The fact that the screen looks blank or inverted from anything but a mostly straight-on angle indicates that they're using a very cheap or old LCD in there.. They still make'em like that for semi-tatty little gizmos, but good gadgets like high-end phones use much newer, better ones.

I like your dedication to getting 2nd opinions from people who would use a product like this....you really took your time with reviewing this product properly, the video is really nicely done and well put together. What brought me to your review was that I was looking online for a borescope and the lizard cam is currently on sale on amazon UK, so I was wondering if it was even any good. I'm gonna give your video a like and hit that subscribe button as well, I really enjoyed watching your review on this.

Hey, James! Thanks for this video review on Lizard Cam! I was on the verge of buying one of these UNTIL...I watched your video! I have a 2008 Ford Taurus with some little something in one of the AC vents that "pings" when I hit a bump. Over and over and OVER, every time I drive the car! I've thought of cameras, magnets, EVERYTHING, to get the item out! My bet...it's a paper-clip. The latest, as of today, I got a 36 inch long, 1/8th inch thick steel rod from Home Depot. I bought a multi-pack of neodymium magnets (super-STRONG magnets!) I Gorilla glued one of the magnets to the end of the rod...and look-out PAPER-CLIP! I saw the end of the Lizard Cam in your video and it looks too big to fit into my AC vents. Thanks for saving me, what would have been, $30.00!!!

What is the focal range for the Lizard Cam? I bought a $12 USB endoscope/borescope and it was awful. It had a focus range of 1 inch to 2 inches. So, anything less than one inch or more than 2 inches away was out of focus. That is just too narrow a range to be useful.
@Mulberrysmile
@Mulberrysmile 6 жыл бұрын
A high quality borescope allows focus, as well as adjusting the light intensity. It also has manually adjustable cable for moving the camera head as desired and making turns. Yes the mirror has a use: an example is checking the condition of a wire you suspect may have chafed, but you can’t get your head into the space to see a mirror.

Hard to get tell how good/bad the screen actually is but no way that's worth $40 not with how bad the screen appears to be, the usb phone ones are only about $8 and your phone screen is going to be way better, which means it's going to be easier to see what you're doing or looking at.
@MegaHomieJ
@MegaHomieJ 6 жыл бұрын
it seems like a good value considering it has a screen attached because I have used the usb one before and it was hooked on to my laptop while trying to look at my cyclinder walls. I pulled the cable a little too hard and my laptop fell and screen cracked . I still don't think it can beat the $10 I spent on an ebay usb borescope.

Was it adjustable at all? I think it might be better with a wide-angle lens... It is also not widescreen, the FOV and aspect ratio seems to be sub-optimal. The LCD is a TN panel so there's always need to look at it straight on without an angle. A cell phone screen is going to be a much higher quality screen..ALWAYS..so I can only see this being a good option for greasy/dirty applications where you wouldn't want to have your phone in your hand otherwise a phone solution would always be a better (and cheaper) solution.

I bought something similar from Harbor Freight and gave it to my son to look inside of plumbing. It wasn’t really long enough to do him much good. I found one on eBay for less money that came with a 30 foot cable and sends a Bluetooth signal to an app on his phone. If memory serves me correctly, it also takes screen shots and videos. Guess which one he uses?

I’m surprised people are saying it’s pricey. 40 bucks seems like a great deal considering it has a dedicated screen to it. Back when I was doing home installs I’d have loved one of these and you couldn’t get one for less than 100. Sure there now are cheaper options but you need to have your own monitor and most of them are a limp cord which is limiting.

High price relative to the other options. You can buy a usb model for a quarter of the price and hook it up to some tech that you already have if you're watching youtube. If you want it stiffer, you can use a coat hanger and some electrical tape. On the other end its only around $120 for a milwaukee model which is much more usable with better features and rugged design that will retain it's resale value for years.

Have used boroscopes for years, but they used to be much more expensive. The info I found really interesting is that they now have boroscopic cams that go to your phone screen. That would seem to make this device moot. One could even record the inspection!

don't know if yours has one, but when i had a cam like that (before it was popular), it had a plastic thing on the lens, that was nearly invisible that really clouded the picture and the light. i have 2 of these. one very expensive, a few hundred, got an extension that magnified, which was a mistake because its hard to see what i'm looking at. it has better color than yours, with a removable screen and recording ability. don't use it at all, once you have one, there are few times you will ever need it. then i got a usb model, and it doesn't work at all. i get no picture. not sure what's wrong with it. at least it was a gift so i don't feel totally robbed.

Great review! This thing might be great for my son if it weren't so stinkin' pricey! It was a bit hard to tell just how clear the picture was, but I was thinking that if you needed to have it straight and wanted more stability you could always use a couple pieces of electrical tape and stick a long dowel rod on it! Again, thanks! Great review (as usual!)

Do a lot of research on this type of product before buying, something you could build on your own . Research depending on your needs. So many options out there for a "video camera on a rope" some serious and some not. Research is number one depending on the project you intend to use it for. Is this useful for your project, well by now you know that is a maybe. Research your needs and the products available. I know I have been redundant but there is that need to be in this case.
