also, maybe the video suggests that she cannot handle conflict and confrontation very well so that tension built up and exploded because she gave those moments too much thought and power, whereas that confrontation didn’t mean too much to him, which makes me soooo like her… confrontation and i’m gone which is so unhealthy but simply reality

I love how at 'Doomsday' she had the skull makeup on her face when she thought she was dead in her ex's mind.... But now she's seeing the same skull makeup on the current guy's face prolly resembling how he and the love between them is dead to her... cause she's still hanging on to her past.... The cacophony in the bridge/outro is so perfect. Lizzy's greatest asset in my opinion as a songwriter is her use of timbre, you can tell she really understands music color, and how to express it through progressions. I got a similar feeling as the first time I heard Karma Police by Radiohead, so definitely a good sign.

First of all you’re a genius. This song means so much to me. I’m a born reckless driver. Listening to the thoughts of a careful driver just gives so much inside to my past and current partners. My empathy is growing. It’s healing to not just think of them in negativ ways. Oh god. I like got to calm down. This hyped me up so much.😂
@c.w.61 Жыл бұрын
I don't know the artists just found and really liked the song so I don't understand what "reckless driver" here mean. Other than literally ofc.
@ratboygirl Жыл бұрын
@@c.w.61 hi i'm two months late but i thought i'd explain it anyway? best way i could think to describe a "reckless driver" in this context is someone who is self-destructive and easily infatuated - ie a person who "falls in love too fast" and has some insecurities about their relationship. in contrast, a "careful driver" is somebody who is more reluctant to let themselves fall in love and is trying to set boundaries. a "reckless driver" depends on the "careful driver" and it creates this sort of toxic situation where one person grows obsessive (won't keep their eyes on the road) while the other distances themselves - making the reckless driver feel abandoned

Something I've noticed with Lizzy's music and what sets it apart from similar artists is the compassion within the lyrics and between the lines. Especially these that are collaborated with Ben Kessler. Both sides of a relationship falling apart are so realistically depicted I think I'd be hard pressed not to remember my own experiences. Quick shout out to my fellow reckless drivers; Fellas, never let your love for someone blind you from seeing what's best for them. Hit the fucking breaks once in a while. Behind the lyrics are a series of unwanted reflections, sleepless nights, and bittersweet memories. It takes a whole lot of careful thought to represent both sides with honesty and most importantly, love, even if it is a love lost.

Okay. This is my interpretation of the song. She starts off the song by saying “ I don’t love you like that , I’m a careful driver.” He loves her enough to take his eyes off the road , but she isn’t there yet. She gets mad at him , because like she’s a cautious person. Probably about falling. Maybe she’s scared to let her self fall in love. And then she said “one day it’ll kill us if I don’t let go”. Like if she lets go of the path, they will die. So she can’t look at him ( or love him like that) bc she doesn’t want to give in. And as the song progresses we see them argue. Maybe they aren’t on the same page. But at the end , she lets go of the road looks at him. And they die. But they die as she finally loves him enough to not be scared and look into his eyes ….

Lyrics: I didn't mean to kiss you I mean I did, but I didn't think it'd go this far I didn't mean to kiss you Now you can't focus on the road when I'm in your car Now we're going one hundred Your hands aren't on the wheel 'Cause you're just staring at me like you're not convinced that I am real And now we're at one-eighty And I can finally see But then it's over in a second Crashed the car into the tree Yeah, I can see it all happen You'd rather die than take your eyes off me I don't love you like that I'm a careful driver And I tell you all the time to keep your eyes on the road But you love me like that You're a reckless driver And one day it will kill us if I don't let go I don't know how to tell you That I feel safe when you sit shotgun Never felt this way with no one And I lie when I tell ya I know exactly where we're going I get lost just for this moment Now we're at one hundred My hands aren't on the wheel (my hands aren't on the wheel) And I don't wanna lose this moment Want you to know just how I feel (just how I feel) Now we're at one eighty And I can finally see But then it's over in a second Crashed the car into the tree I don't know how it happened Guess I'd die to keep your eyes on me 'Cause I love you like that I'm a reckless driver And you tell me all the time to keep my eyes on the road Do you love me like that? If I keep on driving Would you hold me when we crash or would you let me go? Don't wanna scrape you off the pavement I can't be your savior I don't wanna be here when you lose control Don't wanna watch it as it happens See the crowd's reaction I don't wanna be here when you kill us both 'Cause I don't love you like that ('cause I love you like that) I'm a careful driver (I'm a reckless driver) And I tell you all the time (you tell me all the time) To keep your eyes on the road (to keep my eyes) But you love me like that (do you love me like that?) You're a reckless driver (if I keep on driving) And one day it'll kill us (would you hold me when we crash?) If I don't let go 'Cause I don't love you like that ('cause I love you like that) I'm a careful driver (I'm a reckless driver) And I tell you all the time (you tell me all the time) To keep your eyes on the road (to keep my eyes) But you love me like that (do you love me like that?) And it also makes so much sense for the song, it's not just a nerdy exercise. To me it gives a "something is off here" harmonically unstable vibe, like in the relationship she is writing about.

Loving the "ghost" aspect that continues to appear and how this short film series experience that's being created started w/ "Doomsday", continued w/ "Erase me", then "all my ghosts", and now we're seeing "reckless driving" and still have yet to see the final installment (since I believe I read that 5 songs were chosen to have videos made). LOVEing that the songs are 1000% a story, they've been created and arranged w/ so much intention, and (I feel) are signaling a transition ("death"-- which is where the ghost aspect comes into play), not just of the personal aspects in her life that we'll never know, but of her music that she's sharing w/ us and how she's transitioning from "old Lizzy" into this new era of her music-- new sound, new goals, etc and am LOVING being along for the ride.

I agree with one of the other comments that said that the bridge of this song is my new favorite piece of music because IT IS. It is so genius to me and how there are two perspectives through it all that butt heads (one is careful with the relationship and the other is “reckless” and would do anything for the other person) and then at the end it finally blows up because of their differences until they crash their car. WOW.
