This is the Mumbai monorail, filmed recently after it opened in February, 2014.

Why all the haters on here posting? 1st about the birds.. birds are dam fast so a slow ass monorail is no match for them. 2nd who says that this is a waste of money? It's better than endless roads or stadiums or bombs. 3rd The route this was built after the area was all ready built up so of course it's not going to be perfectly routed. 4th some of you people sound a bit jealous that India is catching up like China did.

I wonder why birds are brought up at all... The number of animals getting themselves killed by any kind of vehicle is pretty high, and the only way to get that issue solved is likely by banning all vehicles, however if you take into account what kind of consequences that would have (even for the people bringing up those birds now)... I don't think this monorail train would change any numbers when it comes to animals getting killed by vehicles at all...

As an Australian and a Sydneysider, I have noticed: 1) The rolling stock, the Scomi Urban Transit Rail Application (SUTRA), is also used on the Kuala Lumpur Monorail in Malaysia. 2) The chime played before the next station announcements on both SUTRA's 🇲🇾🇮🇳 is the exact same as the platform announcement chime of Sydney Trains, NSW TrainLink and Newcastle Light Rail, and now is being used as part of the Metro Trains Melbourne Siemens Nexas PIDS upgrade programme when that train arrives at the station. 3) The new door close message [“Stand Clear, Doors Closing”] is the same as that of the Sydney Trains M set (built by Downer EDI) upon debut, and is the default for the Waratahs (A and B sets, built by the same company) before the Sydney Trains files are loaded.

The video is good,but see the difference of light in sky.The upper one shows evening [6 pm] but the down one shows close to 3pm

Jatin Chopra The lower one is from the camera placed back of train(outside), upper one is taken by the driver from camera/smartphone(inside). probably the difference in light is because of windscreen.

Looks like you people got the idea of monorail totally wrong, I watched other videos showing the Monorail route and its off the city,this things a like city bus,it should be circling within a cities business district, it was never meant to be a mass transporter, looks some politician with a dirty hand got this project going just to show the world India has arrived. Infrastructure planning is important before building something like this.

.I am from the U.S.A. This rail seems very short. Just about 7 miles . Can someone tell me if there is construction going on to extend the monorail line?  How long will the monorail line be?

From Wikipedia, 8.9 km is currently operational. When the rest of the line opens in 2015, it will be nearly 20 km long. So to answer your question, yes there is construction going on to extend the monorail line. In fact about 95% of the track for the extension is already in place. Most of the stations are in various stages of construction.

Home Pc It is running very successfully! Recently, there were huge rains and flooding which shut down most surface train traffic, but the monorail continued running. The extension which will double the length of the line is supposed to open this year, 2015.

The track was completely installed by 2012, so that's why it doesn't look brand new anymore. All the concrete structures in Mumbai looked the same due to the weather (wet, humid, hot).

Luke Starkenburg Did it ever get close to that speed? On the long straights around the last two stations it didn't seem to go much faster than on the rest. I'm amazed how tight some of the turns are, even with your wide angle the guideway disappeared off the right edge of screen.

Few observations: 1. The rail is going way too slow, 2. Donno how many birds are run over each day on the path :( and 3. Mumbaikars are sooooo talkative, no manners at all ;)

What the hell is this?? The speed is too slow..look like 20-30km/hr only.. Everything is bad, the announcements ,the very small length, the bird unsafe tracks, very near stations…and so on.. just waste of time and money. Delhi Metro is way much much Better than this. Thankful to be delhite♥️
