Saying DMX only put trinkets in the house is not only disrespectful, but completely untrue. At one point he was keeping the lights on in that building. He may not have built the foundation, but he made sure that foundation stood stronger and firmer when he was there.

Here’s the thing DMX, Jay were never technically signed to Def Jam initially . They were on Rocafella, Ruff Ryder and those labels had joint venture deals 50/50 partnerships with Def Jam. Def Jam didn’t have those guys directly

Nah. The real Mount Rushmore has presidents that span over the course of well over 100 years. Mount Rushmore is not reserved for the ones who started something. It’s reserved for the ones that are the most impactful. To say that DMX was not one of the 4 most impactful rappers on the label is simply not true.

@@darylcampbell9838 so LL’s Mt. Rushmore wouldn’t be my pick, but I stand on my take of what the criteria of a Mt. Rushmore is. I agree X should be on a Def Jam Mt. Rushmore, and I would even include Hov. I don’t know if I would put Ye’ on there. In the grand scheme of it he was under that Def Jam umbrella, but I consider him more of a Roc artist. Instead, I would probably put Luda or Rule on there.

When it came to early beginnings of Def Jam: LL, PE, Slick Rick and The Beastie Boys did built the house. EPMD, Redman, Method Man, Foxy Brown and Onyx added the fixtures and amenities while Jay Z, DMX and everyone else after brought in the decorations

Get your facts straight. It wasn’t a battle, it was a cypher. It was multiple MC’s there, including Sauce Money and a couple of others. Pull up the Sauce Money interview, he explains exactly what went down and even said LL held his own considering the circumstances. And the only reason the story is even out, is because it makes Jay look good. And for the record, every great MC is an ego maniac. Go ask KRS and Kane. They didn’t a problem with what LL did. That’s how MC’s rolled in that era. You wouldn’t understand that, because you aren’t on that level.

It's about *the foundation* of something! With that said, the Def Jam Mt. Rushmore engravings start with these three heads: Rick Ruben, Russell Simmons, and LL Cool J! Remove them, and you've got no Def Jam 🤷‍♂️ Now... Argue amongst yourselves for whomever you'd consider for the 4th slot.

@@curtis75black there's too much information out there for you to still say that DMX was signed to the Ruff Ryders label. DMX was signed to Def Jam in 97. Dee and Wah didn't have a deal with any record label at that time. Irv got X signed to Def Jam. With that the Ruff Ryders label got a distribution deal with Def Jam.

I think the idea of what was/is Mount Rushmore gets lost in translation. The four Presidents on Mount Rushmore are arguably not the best presidents of all time. But they were, arguably, momental to the US at the time

Go back and look at old interviews with LL, DMX, Meth, etc..you can see how the younger rappers (at the time) looked up to L like the big homie. He still feels the same way today, he's not going to put these younger guys on his Mt Rushmore. And on top of that, we all know LL and Jay have a thing..and will probably have that thing, whatever it is, forever.

Beastie Boys , Run Dmc , LL Cool J and Public Enemy was all it was around here . Run Dmc was on Profile but I think.its because family and business don't mix. I totally understand where LL was coming from.

LL is one of the actual first rappers to ever exist. If he wants to give HIS OPINION on who is the best, he actually gets to do it and deserves respect for it. Without LL, is there really Jay, Nas or many other rappers for real though?
