Great analysis. I think its important to note that what allows Linus to XR some marginal hands otf is the presence of the nutted hands (sets) in his range as well. He will also incorporate some nutted hands in his small river probing range to protect himself. You often see hands like oesd + flush draw Xing back IP and hands with similar equity, not because we are afraid of getting blown off our hand because those hands will never be folding. I think hands like this play better as BXB bluffs than 3barrel bluffs given we block so many draws and just prefer to realize equity

Pio says O’Dwyer should bet pot because of the massive polarity in his range. When going into the range explorer you see he rarely has pairs but has tons of air and overpairs and sets which are the effective nut hands here. Such polarity warrants a large bet sizing. Love these videos though, motivated me to start my own solver work.

Its a little strange having the T7o call but no j9-k9 I think the k7-8o and q7-8o can be ok polar 3bets at certain stack depths (not the 80bb effective. Here linear with some mixed board coverage suited connector/gapper and some axs makes more sense at this stack) to differing frequencies. Have you made all these combos as pure polar 3b? (The j7-j9, q7-q9 k7-k9?) You need to do something about this gaping leak in this preflop range and re do the sim

What do you think about LL check/calling the river? Pick up more value. Is the bet preferred to avoid facing the overbet from the ip player? Obviously LL doesn't know the villains exact holding but when you arrive to the riv w JTh high he probably isn't checking J high back though in reality it sucks for the ip player because it's kind of the worst hand to have except for JT of diamonds due to blockers/removal. Do you think if the riv gets checked to the ipp he should still bluff?

Did he really bet 13,000 on the flop? It looks like he has no red chip at this point. Linus raises to 28000, If O'Dwyer bets 15000 on the flop its less than minimum raise size. It's strange.

Also whats going on with the bet size? You say steve pot cbets but the image shows 3k into 13k for ~25% Nanonoko appears to be talking that the bet size is small and if steve should size it up You say linus check raises small but its 9.5x the 3k bet size to 28 (1.5x pot) which is massive Are the graphics all wrong or am i missing something. Edit: nanonoko says the graphic is wrong and steve bet bigger. Was it 13k cb and checkraise to 28k?

@FindingEquilibrium
@FindingEquilibrium 5 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, looking back at it, I think the assumed calling range was too tight. Linus seemed to be calling almost any two cards in the BB probably bc of the ante plus he knows he has post-flop advantage against pretty much anyone. I got the preflop range from pokersnowie and actually adjusted it to be a bit wider, but probably didn't make it wide enough.
@jjprodigyify
@jjprodigyify 5 жыл бұрын
Yes, def defending those, and whole solve becomes irrelevant, because IP player has clear range advantage when OOP is missing that many strong 9x. Turn plays may be entirely different etc.
@FindingEquilibrium
@FindingEquilibrium 5 жыл бұрын
Irrelevant seems like an overstatement. Would it be that different? Seems like the solver strategy differs significantly when the concentration/percentage of strong hands changes, not just when the raw number of strong hands change. Even with more 9s BB will still have a ton of air. If your BB range is 100% that means you have total coverage and all possible nut hands, but your range is still weak.
@jjprodigyify
@jjprodigyify 5 жыл бұрын
In short: yes, it would be very different. I'm not really interested in teaching general public how to play or use tools for free though
@FindingEquilibrium
@FindingEquilibrium 5 жыл бұрын
Idk. There are still many 9s in the range so it seems like it shouldn't be too different, especially since if you start adding more 9s you will also have to add more air, but maybe you are right. I may rerun the analysis later with a wider range when I have more time. Thanks for the feedback.

I think it's really interesting how Linus's postflop skills allow him to play a very wide range in a lot of situations. The very large continuation bet on the flop followed by a lot of passive play from late position screams draw or weak made hand. A5hh is really about the only hand that got there on the river, and it's only one combo versus a ton of bluffs in button's range. I like Linus's play on every street, although my first inclination was to donk bet the flop because the flop hits the BB's range so much better than the button's. I block top set, and I expect overcards to fold out either on the flop or to a turn barrel. Thinking ahead though, what do I do if an Ace, King, or Queen hits the turn? Checking gives the button carte blanche to take the pot away. Check raising your continuing range seems like a better candidate, as it will often dissuade the button from being aggressive on any turn card that hits their range. In fact, the button hit the perfect card on the turn, which gave them a ton of added equity (in fact making them the favorite in the hand), but fearing 2 pr or a set, the button couldn't find the large bet to take the pot away.
@aaronl1186
@aaronl1186 5 жыл бұрын
Why did you speculate that LLinus might of checked back 96o if he was playing IP? Would your opinion change if they were playing cash instead of tournament? I think LLinus may very well have checked back a hand like 96o because the risk-reward ratio of block bet/thin-value vs. re-opening action vs good villain in a tournament favours it but I reckon he'll probably bet a stronger 9x (K9+) IP even at the risk of re-opening the action
@FindingEquilibrium
@FindingEquilibrium 5 жыл бұрын
My speculation was really just a guess. I know Linus makes these types of bets frequently and I've always speculated that they are more block bets than value, but I've also seen him call a huge raise in the face of his block bet, which I think leans towards value? I do know that Pio seems to treat small bet and check OOP almost the same in terms of EV but that's not the case often times IP.
@aaronl1186
@aaronl1186 5 жыл бұрын
@@FindingEquilibrium Thanks for your reply. Yeah, I've also seen him call-down raises OTR in response to his block/small VB - its absolutely necessary if small/block bet OTR is part of your strategy and when you're playing against opponents who bluff raises (as part of their defence) enough. Do you think he would play it differently IP in a tournament generally vs. CG table though?

@@FindingEquilibrium At 6:50 we can see Linus range. Question: 43s bets 40% of the time, so we bet the ones without flush draw and check the ones with flush draw?! So we don´t get pushed off our equity? Or do we simply bet the Open ended flush draw ones, because we have more equity (so we would like to put more money with +EV) ? PS: O´Dwyer has to check a lot with the same draw on the turn in a similar spot
@FindingEquilibrium
@FindingEquilibrium 5 жыл бұрын
That's a good question - I would have to rerun the analysis, but my guess is that with the additional equity of combo draw on the turn the solver will continue betting after check raising on the flop. But that being said, I think with most draws, you really can't be too -EV regardless of which option you choose.

I’m still confused about why Dwyer should check behind the turn. I play $50nl online and in Dwyers shoes I would just go ahead and bet the turn thinking BB was just messing around or “seeing where he’s at” and giving up on the turn and I could get him to fold a 9x type hand or just his junk and I can deny equity. I wouldn’t expect 50nl population to ever go for the x/r flop, x/r turn as a bluff so if that were to happen I would fold. Perhaps at these stakes things are different so Dwyer doesn’t want to get blown off his hand.

LLinus preflop range seems incorrect. He would probably defend any suited cards and more of the offsuit Kx, Qx, Jx. Also you forgot to add lower frequencies for those hands, he will frequently 3bet with preflop. Betting big on the flop, especially with JTs makes a lot of sense, since you fold out Jx, Tx, hands of BBs range which dominate the IP player (e.g. QJ, QT, KT, etc.) Linus also doesnt play with a donking range, so i would restrict donking, since it takes effect on future streets of the solution, once you allow it.

I think Linus reraise 2x because O, Dwyer made a Pot-Size C bet aware of 3 bet possibility at this Board. i mean GTO shows that he would reraise a smaller C bet more often. So Linus 2x reraise seems like a port controlling move. In fact he shrinks O, Dwyer C-bet but he also loses fold equity for his bluff.

Towards the end, you say that Linus is who he is because he managed to make the most chips in a marginal situation. However, taking the example of this very hand, if Linus check-called the flop, he would very likely be facing a big barrel on the turn as well, which he should definitely call. Therefore, we have now reached a river situation with a pot bigger than this, and the pairing of the board and bricking of draws doesn't encourage bluffs. Check-calling the flop would lead to a river situation where there's more chips in the middle, and Linus has a better hand. As long as he doesn't get outplayed, he's making more chips than by X/r the flop. Thoughts?

I think the X/r on flop was to make over cards to his pair go away,also if he just x/calls flop then when an overcards falls its tricky for him,the Q came which O Dwyer would definetly bet at if Linus had X/call flop.He probably doesnt always play this the same way anyway as a good pro would never do

Use square size proportional to weight plz. Much easier to visualise weights etc

Yeah I realized I had it unchecked. I will try to switch back and forth so people can see the weights but also clearly see the range strategies as well.

I believe the Triton tournament was short deck hold 'em. If that's correct, does the solver take this into account?

synchronium24 this isn’t a short deck game. There is a 2 and a 5 on the board

@@laneu781 Fair enough. Unusual for a Triton Event not to be shortdeck these days.

Yeah most of the series was shortdeck unfortunately, I think because its more popular these days in asia.
