I think one of the biggest problems with the 2x pot shove on the turn is that Jack will never fold an ace here (Ax making a significant proportion of his range) because when he does hold an ace he blocks so many of Berkey's value combos. Thus a larger bet will not generate much extra fold equity with bluffs, but when Berkey does hold an ace going for this size generates a lot more fold equity and doesn't extract as much value, so using this size is nonsensical. Also it's really easy to bluff way too much here with flush draws, especially considering the super out of line cold 4-Bet pre.

It's just some pretty basic math. For a 2x pot shove. your opponent has to fold 2pot/(pot+2pot)=66.6% of the time at least. Sure, Jack has some flush draws, but not that many.

after watching some more clips of this format from solveforwhy, i can quite honestly say that not only is it subpar content from a learning perspective, but borderline irresponsible by modern training site standards. berkey's hand is only the tip of the spew iceberg. literally in the first hand in the clip linked below, one of the coaches(?) advocates opening K7s under the gun because he specifically wants to induce a 3bet from the button so he can 4bet him back (i'm not making this up). the small blind (nick howard) then proceeds to 3bet T6s from the small blind due to it's "equity driven qualities." brilliant. and the comment section is chalk full of praise from inexperienced players who actually think they're consuming valuable information. in the end, it's up to the viewer to discern whether content is valuable or not, but the amount of egregious plays in that video alone made me want to post this. the "highlight" video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/lWS0ZJl6etmhi8U

In the 3bet spot. is it correct to raise or Fold Ako and Fold Aq? or would some flatting be allowed? Reason for asking is I see that tendency of flatting AK in my local area, together with other holdings. so if first player shoves, they have a flat 3bet range which can call the 4b, and even 5bet if the 3bettor calls the 4bet..... I feel this is weird, I don't flat 3bets against two uncapped ranges, not in or out of position. I would really like to know how to do that in a balanced way, if it makes sense to do so.!
@209twitch5 жыл бұрын
flatting can be allowed if you think they open too tight and especially if the players behind you are very unlikely to squeeze
@FindingEquilibrium5 жыл бұрын
A lot of this will depend on the positions. If you get 3bet by early position the solver will fold some AKo and flat some AKs and most AQo are folding. However, with rake you should be much less inclined to flat.

@@joelmcc88 dk why the dufus is necessary lol. no they are not, slight deviations from optimal are necessary to do well at poker. MASSIVE DEVIATIONS are definitely not. you can see perfectly here how one mistake pre-flop (the cold 4bet with T7s) compounded in to a multitude of errors and ended in him punting off over 300 big with 20% equity. it's honestly so easy to play vs guys like this once you have a grasp of GTO, they just completely punt off in tons of spots and they are effectively fish. the guy Berkey was playing against was making slight tweaks to his strategy (for example calling more often with AK pre to play IP vs wider/weaker range) and this is definitely how to approach GTO/exploitative poker. Berkey just cold 4bet cos he had a random hand that he wanted to call an open with, then pretty much decided on the flop he was gonna go with this hand, regardless of the run out. there's not really much thought process here, just button clicking. the other guy should own the training site instead lol.

i feel like this jam is just gonna make villain's life really easy by allowing him to play pretty much perfectly against the shove. it's not like population will make big mistakes in this node: draws will have an easy snapfold, and the only hands that will be put in a "tough spot" will be AJs/ATs which should eventually find a call anyway. maybe there's some epic metagame between the two, but regardless there's just not much room for jack to make a huge blunder given this line. just seems far from the most optimal line to take, and it's not surprising to see the large discrepancy in ev between checking (+92) and shoving (-150) in the solution.

I feel that his thought process was that his opponent can have QK, QJ diamonds & as well as JK & 10J that is trying to catch. Based on his bet sizing 2/3 on the flop and a flat, We can rule out with JQ, JK, 10J even with the backdoor hearts draw. His opponent range is capped after his opponent calls on the flop, which has QK, QJ Diamonds, 2 Combi of A2 and 2 Combi of A5, Pocket 9s, Js, Qs,Ks., AQclubs, AQ spades, 8 Combi of AK. There are too many hands that he is losing out. And any combis of A will not shoved a 2x pot on the turn. There is also a high tendency that the opponent calls with 99s+ to bluff catch with an exploitative read. The best way to take down this put if he is persistent on his read that his opponent has a higher fd (Qkds, QJds), is to either bet a 2/3 pot on the turn and give up the river. Or bet 1/4 on the turn and river go for a overpot jam. This probably has a higher Ev. The way he played is better off with a short start effective stack of 150 to 200bbs. His 4Bs 710suited from the big blinds is the no.1 mistake from the start. I hate how he thinks that it was unfortunate that he had Ak which is one of the top of his range, instead of acknowledging that is definitely a bad play. However, i really enjoy this types of videos which we can hear the thought process of these players!

People don't have the data on you that forces you to play a more gto style. Plus the fact that no one in real life is playing anything close to what PIU does anyway. Everyone is playing a exploitative style. An playing through exploits makes your win rate way higher than playing online. Live players don't counter your exploits the way online players do. This changes as you move up in live stakes though. Interesting to read these comments as all the viewers seem to still be watching trhough the lens that GTO and PIU is the only way to play.

Berkey is way off here on his betting. Just between AK-AT there are 32 combos. His FDs amount at most to 10-12 combos. So put in some pairs.... 42 combos. Now put in Axs 2 pairs = 5. Now sets = 9... Axs no FD = ~15 combos Calling range here is 61 Folding combos = ~54. His overshove is way too much AND this is a 4b bet which REALLY narrows down the caller's range. Very likely he has less FDs than I listed. Also Berkey's bet is very polarizing. Berkey has most of the FDs in this case which are amount 20. Would he shove the turn with KK or AA? No. So what's he got left? Not a boat. So we are looking at 6 sets 20 FDs, and what? Axs hands? A better play is a smaller bet. He can rep a 4, 3, the FD of course. But his large flop bet got him in this spot. For those mocking Berkey don't. There is something to learn from his style. Like anything including older poker books some of the plays do apply in certain spots. I do not know if he makes his money on poker or on teaching poker. I'd be curious.

This hand just shows how poor Matts optimal poker game is. Can you imagine what someone like LinusLove would do to Matt without even getting out of first gear? It’s actually a great lesson to any poker player out there. If your game is built around gto fundamentals you will find it very very hard to lose money playing poker.

it'a a horrible shove on the turn...no amount of reasoning and justification can prove it is even close to right

My game is entirely crafted to prevent things like this from happening to me. Hahaha. But what do I know? I play $2-5

We're going to look back on this video and cringe as they're all sitting around the table explaining themselves why they're WAY overplaying Q9o and T7d while underplaying AKo for the sake of explaining theory.

I love your videos but I saw one video of MMASherdog (tough HS reg) critizing your ranges for the anallysis. So...

Who cares. Only thing that matters is he prefaces with the ranges used.

Which video? He asked me to collaborate with him so they can't be that bad. Also pretty much everything I say is based on what the solver is doing so it's tough to criticize a calculator. Maybe he is saying in reality people don't play those ranges and he would know better than I.

Finding Equilibrium I mean that he said the ranges you inserted messes up the development of the hands. Can’t remember which one from the top of my head but he doesn’t have many in his channel bluff the spot I guess.

@@FindingEquilibrium it was a video from a tournament and featured Linus Love. I think it was a sb limp vs bb hand. MMA said you gave him a raising range when he should be/probably is limping everything iirc He commented on the hand by muting your video and giving his own commentary about the hand he didn't really say anything about you just to ignore the ranges they're wrong

Well he's right in the sense that if the input ranges are wrong it will affect the entire post-flop strategy. I never claim to be an expert at preflop (or anything for that matter). I am just analyzing the solver strategies for the spots, which I think is still useful to understand counter-strategies. However he is a top pro so he would have a much better idea of what people play in reality.

Berkey is a great player, but.. It's as though after the 4bet and seeing the flop his strategy was not going to change. Can't play perfect all of the time and gotta apply pressure. He just didn't think it through imo.

too kind to berkey in this video lol. I ran the sim on this hand after I saw it as well and nothing berkey does in this hand makes any sense in theory, besides him betting flop. So dumb yet he always knocks the sims and says he knows the theory, he just chooses to exploit. Well, seeing how he runs into Ax a ton here, his assumptions are terrible
