Very useful video. I have a Caroline that I run in the garden but I find that possibly it does not run fast enough for the mechanical water pump to top the boiler up very much. I tend to rely on the injector which which does work quite well. Polly engines are very nice easy to fire , drive and they steam very freely. rgds Graham Powell

Graham Powell they are very good engines and I always recommend the locos to anyone who asks. Polly engineering are a pleasure to deal with too. I sadly no longer have the engine. I sold it approximately 4 years ago. Having a young family and running the engine regularly just weren’t compatible! I now focus on my garden Railway as I can run it when I get time.

I've heard double acting pumps are better in order to avoid vibration plus you get twice the flowrate!

Very nice 'no nonsense' approach to the process. Very helpful. Thanks for uploading.

I've just bought a Polly 1 so this video is super helpful, thank you for sharing. I visited RVLS I think last year, our club (KDMES) were invited down for an open day, it's a fantastic location with a surprisingly long track for the space they have to work with! When you were lubricating the cylinders post-run, did you use steam oil or the oil that you would use for the moving bits?

Good useful video. What coal do you use ?
@penybontshed9 жыл бұрын
Nice vid, I put my charcoal on a bed of anthracite and fire on a 25% steam coal and & 75% anthracite mix. Takes some of the acrid smell and bad taste away when driving.

Nice video and description of firing. I liked the steam pump. Where do you get them from? Regards Steve...
@DansModellingUniverse10 жыл бұрын
Hello Steve. The pump was purchased second hand off a friend. He originally had it from jubilee fittings (which has since closed) but it was 'like new' when I purchased it as it had been fitted to a steam plant put sat there unused for several years. Regards Daniel

How do you fill the boiler from cold?
@roseroserose5882 жыл бұрын
You have two options for filling the boiler, really. First option is to fill it from the side tanks using the hand pump - this takes a while and you'll get a good workout! Second option is to remove the safety valve and fill the boiler directly before replacing the safety valve ready for steaming. Hope this helps ☺
