That's a handy addition, thanks. I'm using Brighter 3D and same applies, however, if you haven't got a renderer and are in free Make and wish to see a 16:9 screen ratio (just for modelling prior to rendering) his solution begins to help but is guess work, so how to solve that? Cheers.

to add to your hack, if you are into hot keys, and who isn't?: hit the c for circle key, then look at the little number window down at the bottom right and just enter the number of segments you want. I'm just at that point in the video, didn't read any comments on it, so maybe it's there already. Great lighthearted, funny and useful videos, keep up the good work!

I might wanna add some (for me) mind blowing feature of sketchup. 1. You could array by dividing it by type / 2. You could scaling your object to exact length by type its units, (5m, 50cm, 500mm)

Nice tips, thanks! I know we're on a whole different version now but all your tips still work, and here's a couple head-smackers probably useful for less advanced users; 1- you can place point 1 of your circle and then use ctrl +/- to change the number of segments in the edge before placing point 2. Good for potato computers so it does all the calculations before making the circle a "real" object, filling it in, etc. 2- "Number of segments" is a value you can also change for arcs, which is super useful if you use the "follow me" tool a lot. Turn that segment count up before using "follow me," no more blocky circular archways! Or, turn it down and make much blockier ones. 3- (total beginner tip) holding scroll wheel click will engage the orbit tool till you let go, duh, but you can hold shift to pan while doing this. Also allows you to move the camera in the middle of placing, drawing, or moving an object, instead of cancelling placement to switch tools to move the camera. Super useful for drawing either very small or very large objects. 4- down arrow will cycle constraints (parallel/perpendicular) relative to the edge you're drawing from, rather than to the world axes. Helpful for when the camera can only get to weird angles on objects that need to be square, but aren't necessarily square within the world.

For arrays, you can also go the divide route: For linear array type total length>Enter, then type /x where x is number of copies>Enter. For polar array type the angle to be filled (e.g. 360)>Enter, then type /x (where x is number of copies to fill that angle) >Enter.

Thank you. Please continue to make good videos like this.

Gecko Boy, it''s in his previous videos
@landewell68626 жыл бұрын
Gecko Boy you really just have to know the basics in drawing. Like how to hold a pencil. (Jk). In my experience, I wasn't really interested in architecture but my parents thought it was coherent with my love of drawing anime. You really learn everything in architecture school. Kinda like a step by step process. But to improve, you really have to help yourself by practicing. Practicing what? Maybe by drawing straight lines. I learned design conceptualization in arch. school. I had no idea at all when I started. Now I am in fourth year and everytime I look back, I am really shocked with the improvement. I was also trained to not sleep in highschool (I play games) so maybe that helped? Hahaha
@krystynafranada7076 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, having drawing skills is an advantage for taking architecture since you know how to control the weight of the lines and all and also there is such plates where you should draw a building. But if you are really passionate you can always learn to draw its not too late to start just like me hahahaha.

Hello Llyan - thanks, great video, I learnt a few tricks! You missed a few great hacks though... 1. Changing the number of sides of a circle: after clicking the circle tool, type the number of sides & hit enter; all circles done in that model in that session will now have that number of sides. 2. Setting dimension lines: click from start point, start dragging line, then type in dimension & hit enter. Bingo! line in the right place. 3. Moving an object accurately: select & start moving with the move tool, then type the distance you want it to move & bingo! 4. Ditto above for extruding 5. Scaling an object; google can be problematic when trying to scale accurately, this is especially an issue with imported images. Measure the image/item, or features on the image/item, then divide the size you wish it to be with it's actual size, and start scaling/moving it with the scale tool. When you have started moving, type in the percentage as a number, i.e. for 80%, type 0.8, and then hit enter. Bingo! 6. Ctrl+C (copy), Ctrl+X (cut), Ctrl+V (paste), Ctrl+Z (undo) & Ctrl+Y (redo) all work in Sketchup. Have fun!

A couple years too late, but when you draw a circle or arc after you create it, just type 48s and you will have 48 segments, that "preset" will save for the next circle or arc you make. Sometimes there are too many sides for the arc you are trying to create so SketchUp will throw up an error and you will need to make them less by drawing an arc off to the side that is almost a full circle and enter a lesser number of sides.
