I'm in Australia, several years ago, when I was drinking heavily I applied for a place on a police experiment in regards to drink driving.. Closed road (an old car companies proving grounds).. 5 laps of the specified course sober, like a mini race track. Then 5 laps sober and at speed.. I'm a Motorsports fan, so I was a lot quicker than everyone else (best lap 1:04.32)... Then into the tent for lunch and a few beers.. BAC showed .04% (legal limit .05%).. Full of confidence, 5 laps.. 1:01.21 was my best... Completely lucid conversation with the testers (police)... And agree with their assessment, at that point, I'd stopped thinking of what might happen if I crashed... Few more beers, BAC .07%... Back in the car... Still feeling confident, 5 laps...1:12.53.... Missed braking points, missed apexes... Unable to keep the car in a straight line.. If I was on the road, I'd have been a danger to myself and everyone else.... Bit of perspective..... I'm 54 now, I was 46 when I took part in this. I FIRST lost my licence when I was 22 for drink driving (BAC 0.165%)... I can only imagine how bad I was driving, even though I've always been able to handle my booze...

People act like you can't own a gun in Australia you can you just need to pass the screening first which is a criminal check and your medical check pertaining to your mental health history if you pass that and pass the gun safety test you get your gun licence and legally use a gun no we aren't aloud to have semi automatic weapons and we aren't allowed to carry them as civilians out side of our property ( unless hunting or at a gun range) and you know what we haven't had a mass shooting since the laws were passed. I personally believe violent offenders and crazy people shouldn't be allowed to own guns but hey that might be just me.

There is also another option instead of banning most guns. Do it like the people in Switzerland. There everybody has a gun but they treat them not like toys. Its a completly different culture. They also actually have a well regulated militia. (The US also did for a short time but thats only good for defending. For the whole movement to the West a standing army was more practical).

My neighbor sells honey from a non-manned stall by the road, where people just put money for it in a jar, completely trust-based. I'm not up to date but Australian gun laws kinda make sense. You CAN have them but... for example with a handgun, you need to do a basic safety course before you can apply for a permit, then join a shooting range/club, and there is a 12 month cooling off period where you need to wait to buy a gun.
@K000HАй бұрын
DO NOT drink and drive! It's not a personal question about you being able to get home without wreaking your car on not. It's about the people you potentially could get killed doing so. There are 0% chance someone will die if you don't get in the car drunk. But if you do drive drunk, the chance goes up. And just 1% could be enough to end someone's life. Do better. Because you don't get to whine once you sit in court face to face with a killed person's family.

Jim is a funny guy, but he does exaggerate a bit, firearms have never been banned in Australia. I’ll go into more details below, but here’s some USA stats from last year: * There were approx 640 mass shootings in the USA in 2023 (mass shooting = 4 or more people shot, either killed or wounded). *Those approx 640 mass shootings in 2023 average out to 1.75 per day * There were 40,000+ firearm related death in the USA in 2023. * In the USA there are MORE firearms than people! Being an Aussie, guess which country I’m going to be safer in? And it ain’t Merica!! Back to Jim, firearms are not banned in Australia, actually there are more registered firearms here today compared to back in 1996. But..... Since 1996 we have introduced stricter licensing and registration. Any Australian can apply for a firearm licence (except for those with a criminal record or a history of mental illness), but you have to have a ‘valid’ reason, such as: sport shooter, hunting, collector, farmer, pest control, etc. Licensing is also strict regarding the ‘type’ of firearm, eg, semi-auto rifles are restricted to people such as professional pest controllers, you can’t have ‘any’ firearm you want, it has to match the type of licence you have. The average idiot in the suburbs can’t own a semi-auto firearm, or any firearm, without a valid reason, for obvious reasons! Self defence is not a valid reason in Australia, we don’t live in fear. Yes we do have firearms in Australia, but linked to sensible rules and laws (unlike Merica, the land of mass shootings). Cheers,

You can see how hard it hits these guys when he talks about slaves. If you don’t understand the concept of white privilege, then just think about this. If you’re white, you never have to imagine your ancestors suffering over hate for their skin color, that’s privelege.
@leonchester920229 күн бұрын
Every race has been enslaved and every race has been the slavers. You can't choose the thoughts that pop into your brain but you can choose whether to entertain or dismiss those thoughts. "Victims" choose to entertain and look to the past and project blame on others for their situation. The rest of us choose dismissal and look to the future and take responsibility for our own situations. It's only racist people who feel the need to bring skin colour into a conversation as if its a factor in determining another person's values or morals
