In this video I will be showing you how to identify the camshaft angle out of spec and how to adjust it correctly. (Or kind of... lol)
On the video I wrongly say that you can turn the camshaft pulley without turn the inner one, as you will see on the video, is actually the other way round...
This was a PD engine, code BXE, this however applies to other engines with the same camshaft and diesel injection systems.
Prior to this, I have been resolving a no signal from the camshaft sensor...

The torsion value is normally hand written in the factory on the white bar code sticker on your cam belt cover .

Can i suggest to put a cloth or rag to stop anything falling down into the belt 😢 my socket fell off and fell in, luckily i magnitised a screwdriver to get it out otherwise a dead engine.

sorry for telling you, buy you do it wrong, i mean on edc16 ecu you need a value of -2 to -2.5 not 0, 0 is for edc15 ecu's, have a nice day.

You might be correct... (I could check the ELSA/ETKA technical data, but don't really matter...), however, at this angle, was when the engine would start and run absolutely perfect... Anything below -2 the engine would do what I have showed at the start of the video, would rotate a couple times before firing up... Thank you for watching, and for your comment!

@@LMAutoRepairs 5mh11 is right(in some engines not all), if you use the factory locking tools, in some engines you will end up with -3 for example on BLS and it's the right spec, if you put it to zero like in the old engines you will loose power and the fuel economy will get worse. If you check at official vw service book there are 2 types of tools for the crank(T1050/T1100), some use -3 degrees, other 0 degree. By the way, I am a trained VW technician and today I am fixing a car with that issue, the customer went to a garage and they mess that up, now the car is like a diesel sponge and runs slower.heheeheh Also is very important to have a thermostat in good condition, a "cold" engine will not run optimall

good evn, I have 4,4 to 5,5 with a minimum of 3.9 whem the car is hot but the problem is that runs very bad with incredible shooks with the engine. no problem in start engine but just when the car runs when is warm. If I adjust this values do you think is it possible to remove this incredible shooks? it is undriveable...

Live data are all correct..no error in vcds. the engine starts perfectly but the torsione is between 4,4 and 5,5. do you think it may create some problem when the car runs or not. Injectors are just changed and friction with bimass as well. Engine supports are checked, egr is ok injector cable is ok...tips? Is it possible that the camshaft sensor is out of scale? Could I try as you show in this video? Is it possible to brake the valves? thanks

have done it today on bxf engine it was -2.5 with 0.4 fuel consumption make it 0.5 with 0.6 fuel consumption at idle. I'll see if it drive better

It's a GREAT engine IMO! No problems at all for many 100K miles. Just needs Longlife III 5W30 oil every 10K miles and a new turbo every 130K-150K miles, and a timing belt kit every ~90K miles. I changed the big end bearing shells on one BXE at 135K miles. The original upper shells were slightly worn in colour (pink rather than silver), but had no loss of dimension, so I haven't done this with two other engines I maintain (BXE and BLS). All three are at 150K-170K miles now with no problems. I tested the compression on the BLS at 150K miles recently, and it was 420-430 psi (cold) for all cylinders i.e. as good as new. My BXE is at 167K miles, is red-lined every day (only when hot), and I don't need to add any oil between 10K mile oil changes (though sometimes I add 0.5 litres at around 5-6K miles to keep the oil level at max).

Very helpful video I have checked mine because it is running rough on idle when at full temp of 90c. The Torsion Value reads -4.9deg KW, so I assume it's too far retarded as it says -4.9? Update i have reset mine to -1.5 and it tuns much better. Any lower it runs rough.

bxe is edc16, so there is not true that you should ajdust to 0,0. This should be on older edc15 ecu :)

Hi The value is as close to zero as possible... Unfortunately the only way (That I am aware), to look at the torsion value, is with a diagnostic tool. You can use VCDS, which you can get quite cheap... Hope that helps. Thank you for watching!

LM Auto Repairs i solved this case today torsion value what you shared video due.It was little predictable by hand tolerance,but it now works.It was adjusted by pump service with flow rate value though.Engine was not started after engine got cold.Now it is ok. The other case i have this engine valve cover oil filling cap that is smear with loam after revising process completed on this friday.I drove my car to home then saw this case in oil filler tap. So ... my car stopped running .. golf 5 1.9tdi bxe, it simply wont start, turn the key, it tries to start but then it immediately dies. The correct value is -1.5 to -2. Never at 0. At zero your engine is louder and yoi have very bad fuel economy . You are giving wrong informations.
