Oftentimes I've identified the LMP3's better by the rear spoiler on it. The GTP's and LMP2's have a connected sides of the spoiler, whilst the LMP3's have the traditional free hanging.

Yes that is another good way to identify them!

For me lmp3s always looked like a simplified lmp2 so ive always had a pretty easy time identifying them

It’s time to throw out the LMP3s from at least the endurance cup, having an entry level class with the same pace as a pro class has not given LMP3 a very nice track record when it comes to taking out GTLMs and GTDs. Much better to throw the am’s into GT4 machinery. (Or even better remove the class and give some grid space to actual contenders)

It really does feel like its about time to replace lmp2/3 with something new. Especially since the entire grids are made up of like a single manufacturer, sure the racing is great.. but with the new boom of excitement for gtp I think it would be perfect if they got rid of lmp2/3 and replaced it with gto gtu classes, Its like we have full blown prototype classes, and we have all sorts of grand touring classes, but we are missing that middle ground, where its a car that is based off a production car, but yet basically is a prototype construction sharing very little, if any with the road car. A beefed up, high hp, crazy aero new gtu/gto class would bridge that gap nicely between gtp and gtd. It would just really capitalize on that ol 80's 90's nostalgia they are drumming up with the gtp class. I feel like we've had the same sort of layout for over 20 years, full blown prototypes not based on any road cars, and gt cars. It would be so exciting to see what manufacturers could come up with.

moving into sprint races is gonna have a lot of fiberglass flying in the air....not a real fan of sprints. I think the epitome of sports car racing is/are the endurance races. I believe the sprint styles brought the CAN.AM series to the end ....Cost over effects.

Ah, so that's why the LMP3 class is often frowned upon. It has a good portion of young, amateurish drivers

I do think they also get a bit of a bad wrap at times. It can be very easy to just blame the P3's when an incident occurs when there are plenty of ridiculous accidents in the pro classes that get a free pass and viewed a racing incident. Some of the drivers are young and at the beginning of their careers and others can be gentleman drivers who are living out a dream so there will definitely be a few more mistakes made in the class but it still provides some good racing!

Yup, same engine! It makes quite a bit more hp in race trim though!
