It’s basically the only time we see someone directly murder a character onscreen, save for Jet from ATLA which is another one I would consider iconic but even that scene wasn’t nearly as brutal as this. Doesn’t mean you have to think it’s the best thing to happen in the series, but it’s definitely one of the more memorable moments to A LOT of people.

He wants new growth, but recognizes that the path to it is not easy. The villains previous to him did not have such a strong philosophy and just wanted power or the ability to take others powers. Zaheer brings upon an idea to people that can be way more dangerous if unchecked. History’s greatest villains did such things.

Not really. Both Amon and Unalaq had philosophy. It just wasn't communicated very well because of the Nickelodeon interference. Amon did believe in what he was saying. Benders do absue their power over others. We've seen it. But because of his past, he believed it a little too much. Instead of protesting, he created a cult obsessed with eradicating benders completely. Unalaq did have philosophy, but he kind of ended up being evil like Ozai. He believed in tradition with ancient spiritual connection. People of the present were losing that. He wanted to correct the world. But his arrogance made him resent the avatar, and with Vaatu, Unalaq believed he was the only one wise and strong enough to fix the world, which of course just ended in his own death.

For Unalaq, I meant the writers made him out to be evil like the fire lord. He was not like that during the start of the season, he was a wise albeit manipulative guy who believed in something, had a plan, and was going to execute that plan himself to make the world better. Sounds familiar doesnt it? Amon, Unalaq, and Zaheer are all incredibly similar. And Zaheer doesn't really want to spread his ideas to others. That was more Amons goal because he wanted people angry, and he needed supporters cause he couldn't do it by himself. Zaheer doesnt care what anyone thinks. That's of course where he drifts off and explains why he is the villain, even though so many viewers, including myself agree with him to a certain extent. He and his team just do what they think is right, damned what others think.
