Before I got a tamper-proof bit set, I was using a 4.5" cutting wheel and putting a valley across the screw so I could utilize a regular screwdriver. A lot easier with the bit set.

You're a lucky guy. The scrap yards down here don't take all of the individual components as such. We just get the wire and aluminum out of them and scrap the rest for scrap metal.

ouch... where are you from?
@d.kennedy765111 жыл бұрын
I live in central Arkansas. My nephew and I are starting a (full time) salvage and hauling business in March. That has led us into the scrapping scene. Looks like and electronics, magnets, and "tech" type scrapping we do with the boards and such we'll have to sell on eBay or find a reputable buyer that we can ship to.
@MiketheScrapper11 жыл бұрын
Good luck buddy. believe me. once you get the business going . the wholesale scrap buyers are going to find you. Join this group to become more familiar and get your name out there. ISRI (Institute of Scrap Metal Industries) this will help you a lot.

Just getting into scrapping and I have a pile of microwaves. Electricity is my phobia though and ill always be scared when working with a capacitor. Trying to watch these scrap videos so I know the best way not to get shocked lol.

Hey Mike, I have scrapped a few microwaves now and was wondering if you had any tips on cleaning/breaking up those large copper coils. Getting them out of the transformer is easy enough but they seem to be covered in cardboard and possibly varnish that is very hard and goes everywhere when breaking them up.
@MiketheScrapper13 жыл бұрын
@beerandgolf68.... i think the whole microwave scrap as i did in the video...May $3 dollars or more...Does't look like much, but when you have other scrap and put it together. You have a nice chunk of change.

so what exactly does the pink stuff do?
@samgriffiths993110 жыл бұрын
some safety thoughts, you can discharge the capisitator with jump cable attached to the - and the +, it will crack if its charged keep reattaching until it stops. The magnetron he took apart at the start thats the bit that makes microwaves its not dangerous unless you try to turn it on, thats a bad idea and avoid the chemical part. its best to wear heavy duty work gloves and goggles when taking anything apart i am always cutting my hands and nearly poking my eye out. use a multi meter or a screwdriver with a bulb in it that lights when when it touches a charge, they are great when working with materials that may hold charge.

Hi Mike! Really nice vid about scrapping microwave, but one thing u can do faster! The "motor" have side welds. Only u need is hammer, if u hit the weld, it brokes really easily. When u done, u will have two steel pieces as letter E and I. In E part u have inside copper and aluminium, or two copper parts.

@johnsheppard14766 жыл бұрын
richard mitchell that is not radioactive stuff-it's just poisonous like hell if broken-it's beryllium oxide which is totally safe until it shatters-but if you fuck up and it does shatter-just avoid contact with the powder at any cost(if you don't want to have a 3-4 days of excruciating pain before unavoidable death)! But there is another way to use the magnetron instead of just breaking,stripping or anything:you gonna get several cents per one scrapped magnetron-so instead just make something out of it!There are a lot of uses for that magnificent device:the microwave gun(really atomizes electronic devices immediately if you make it properly and with better several magnetrons instead of just one)-or you can assemble the furnace with it's help:it will not have any limits of temperature and be only limited with the temperature of melting crucible itself!So just don't waste good stuff,bro 😎😉

The pink ring around the magnets inside the magnetron(which won’t hold any kind of charge btw so it won’t shock you it’s the capacitor that you have to disconnect and discharge if you don’t want to get shocked) will not cause any cancer problems unless you end up busting it up and having it go airborne in which case it may be inhaled and if that happens you will almost for sure get some sort of respiratory cancer

no no. The high voltage capacitor (surprised you didn't discharge that first). at... 1:30, right after you move the microwave, it looks like it is right above the annotation button. Most electrolytic caps that I have opened have an aluminum case, a large strip of aluminum foil, a large strip of oxidized aluminum foil, some kind of paper, and an electrolytic solution (can be corrosive so please don't open them unless you have gloves) Just wondering what you do with those, scrap or ebay?
@fifh8911 жыл бұрын
4:50 is the capacitor I think. If there's a stored charge it'll be there. You can safely discharge it with a good big screwdriver.
