LOAD BEARING STEEL BEAM INSTALLATION!! STEEL JOB PART 2 WE GET THE STEEL INTO POSITION AND PROP IT WITH A COUPLE OF ACROS. NEXT WE BUILD UP THE DOORWAY IN FIBOLITE 100 MM BLOCKS. WE THEN INSTALL THE PADSTONES AND MAKE GOOD ALL THE BRICKWORK AROUND THE OPENING THEN PACK UP UNDERNEATH THE FLOOR JOISTS.
AFTER A FEW DAYS JM STEEL CAME OUT AND DID THE WELDING FOR US. I THEN POPPED OUT AND STRIPPED THE REMAINING ACROS ...

A brilliant job done by Steve and Alex showing how to safely and correctly install steels using the acros to support where needed and to build up blockwork shut opening using correct dpc and wall ties and the installation of pad stones and packing up with wedges between steel and joists ! A great tip for keeping existing brickwork up and saving extra work or an injury well done Steve and Alex for a tidy and well executed and explained job 👏

If you know a joiner get him to cut you a bag folding wedges for when you have to pack timber joists off RSJ'S , 2 wedges pushed in opposite each other to form a flat packer to what ever thickness you need. Before you slide the wedges in shoot some CT1 on the steel and apossing faces of the wedges and the joist to stop them moving over time.

Quality work as always boys, I wish more 'tradesmen' and I use that term lightly had your attention to quality and detail. One comment if I may..........and nothing to do with your work. The welding on that beam connection, looks a bit ropey...........looks like its been done with a welding set bought on Ebay !!!

In your area, do you ever use powder fasteners/Hilti to fasten steel together? It is quick and easy, there's no need for a welder and they are strong, they won't come apart. This is fairly common here in New York State for commercial construction, less common for residential (less use of steel).

Hi, I thought the law changed that all steels had to have a certificate to show that the steel had been worked on by people who had been certificated, which cost 10's of 1000's of £ to get. So if you want to alter it in any way you must get someone who is qualified to do the work and give you a new certificate. the flange you cut looked like it should have been bolted to the existing beam has it had holes in it and would have been calculated for. The flange that was welded looks like it was not fully welded, why was that? many thanks

Never heard of that law to be honest . I’m not a welder so I trust the guy who has many years experience. Lastly the whole job was inspected and signed off by building control 🧱👍🏽

@@martin2466 It's not new been about years, the welder must be certified and be able to sign the work of.I was on a job around 7 years ago and steels had been welded by a uncertificated welder, BC weren't having any of it and the whole thing had to be drilled and bolted with plates to comply, a massive pain easier to do it right in the beginning.
